We are a family of 4 myself, DH, DS10 and DSalmost 3 we are planning to go to WDW next Christmas for 7 nights and having a heck of a time deciding where to stay. Have stayed at POFQ and POR before. Love FQ but don't know when that will reopen and POR was "ok" but not a fav. We have ate at the Pepper Market a couple of times and took a few minutes to look around CSR, but haven't done any in depth exploring. Please tell me the pros and cons of this resort and if it would be good for our family. Problems w/ transportation, best/worst rooms/ pools/ laundry facilities, anything you can think of. I have one questions already concerning the reusable mugs....I read somewhere on a review that there are 3 separate areas to refill the mugs...is this correct? I read it to mean 3 areas besides the Pepper Mkt. Thanks for the help

CSR is a great moderate resort. It is a very large resort so if POFQ is your fav because of the size, CSR is the total opposite. If you are looking to be close to everything, you do not want a room in the ranchos section.

CSR has terrific transportation, an awesome main pool area called the Dig Site. You'll find one of the best pools on property, WDW's largest hot tub, a very large water slide, a playgorund area and an arcade. All these activites will cover both of your kids age groups. The interactive food area called the Pepper Market is very good in my opinion. You can read the extensive review on my website below. It seems to be either a love it or hate it place because it is not your normal food court.

I love staying at CSR. The only con I can think of is that it is a large resort and some of the rooms are fairly far from the food court, restaurant and shop. But these rooms are closer to the main pool. I have stayed in the Cabana and the Rancho. I don't know if I will every request the Casitas. They are pretty but that are reminds me more of a hotel than the other two areas. I like the Ranchos the best because I think the themeing is most well done here. The colors in the rooms are a bit more subdued as well but this is the area that has rooms far from food! The Cabanas have a nice feel as well and are located in a great spot with not to far a walk to the main pool or food. These rooms are more colorful. The quiet pools here were barely used by manypeople on my visits so it was a great place to relax.

I would not hesitate to stay at CS again.

Cons:
1) The extra tax at the Pepper Market.
2) The size of the resort. In June 2002 we stayed in a building at the back of the resort. We didn't request a specific area. The rooms were very nice but the walk to the lobby was easily a 15-minute walk (brisk, not stroll). We had an old person, 2 handicapped people, and 2 lazy people in our group that didn't like making this walk.

Pros:
1) The pool area
2) The Pepper Market had good food and variety, and the resort store is nice too.
3) We were close to a bus stop, and found CMs to be nice and accomodating to those in my group that weren't big on the walking. The bus driver would drop them off near the lobby on the way out and, on more than one occasion, CMs were happy to give them a lift on the golf cart. Transportation to and from parks was decent.
4) The resort is absolutely beautiful. I love the lobby and I personally enjoyed walking around the resort, especially at night.

I stayed at CSR in May and there are 2 things that stick out in my head that I really liked about it. The Dig Site was awesome and the fact that the resort doesn't share a bus with any other resort. I stayed at the WL in December and we shared with both Ft Wilderness and the Grand Floridian. Travel times would be very long. We stayed in Ranchos 7b which is what we requested. We were a good walk away from the Pepper Market, but only used it once. We were very close to the bus stop, Dig Site, and quiet pool. It was a great location for us. I think I will request a room in the Cabanas 9 area on my next stay to be closer to the main building. I really thought this was a beautiful resort and the time of year made it great. CSR sometimes gets a bad rap for not being enough "Disneyfied", but I have to disagree. I thought the service and cm's were fantastic!! I will defintely stay there again. Give it a try, you might like it!!:)

Thanks for the replies. I think (for now) we've decided this is the place to stay. Can't wait now. It's going to seem like a very looong year!

Happy New Year!!

I have some pics and video on my website if you care to take a look :)

I would not hesitate to stay at CSR again. In fact my DH was a little disappointed that I selected AKL for our January trip. My goal is to try all the resorts at least once, but CSR is definitely a KEEPER (as in keep going back).

I thought the decor and grounds were spectacular. The multiple pool areas give you a great choice. Even if your room is far away from El Centro, the walk back and forth is a treat.

I just loved it.

We stayed at CSR in Dec and I think it has replaced POFQ as our fave moderate.

We were in Cabanas 9B. Less than 5 mintues to El Centro and the Dig Site.

I found CSR to have a very relaxed pace compared to many other resorts. DH and I agreed we didn't mind the 10% service charge at the Pepper Market as your server gets refills, extra napkins etc. Also I liked eating before paying so you don't have to stand in line with your full tray of food.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the links to your sites. They're great! It just makes me want to stay there even more. Happy New Year!
