Fanny Packs?

I also wear a waist pack (fanny/bum whatever) I'm all about comfort at Disneyland. I also find cargo pants help. WalMart has little 8 ounce bottles of water. These can be stuck in a pack or pocket without too much issue, then just refilled at water fountains.

Thank you ALL for the replies! You all are making me feel much better about this!

There's a Bebe outlet across the street from my work, maybe I'll get lucky and they'll have a cute one there.. Thanks, dizneekrazee..

ScrapperkimmyD, that's super awesome you met Ming Na! Was that at Disneyland? I love her AND Lea Salonga.. (Oh man! Don't get me started on HER! I :lovestruc her!)

As for the waist packs, I have 3 days to check out several different stores, so I'll let you guys know what I pick up!!

Thank you all!! :goodvibes

See, that's one thing that is forcing me more to wearing a waste pack. I have some shoulder pain when I don't sit up straight or have a supportive back chair, and wearing a backpack or a purse across my chest KILLS my shoulders. Last trip I had my purse across my chest and I could not stand the pain in my shoulders from it. Backpacks do the same thing

You, my cyber-friend, might consider finding a nice chiropractor and seeing what they can do for you! It's not normal to have such pain, and chiro is right up that sort of problem's alley. :)

disclaimer: Molly is a retired chiropractor who became a chiropractor b/c of the amazing things it did for her young (started at 15) body...Molly let herself "go" for the last couple years and is typing while resting after her first adjustment in about a year, very excited to get back under care and get some problems cleared up again!

In Australia we call them 'bum bags' I won't tell you what 'fanny' means here!:rotfl:

I'm thinkin' I know what it is from the midwifery boards I visit....definitely not what Americans think of as a fanny!:goodvibes

My husband wears one in the parks and I try to not say anything. It is very handy for him but thankfully he hides it with his shirt so that no one knows it is there...

how about a nice sling-bag?

To all posters in this thread: Tell me again, what is wrong with fanny packs?

I mean, they are just another form of back pack. And not unlike a sling. Why do fanny packs get singled out? :confused3

Well,it draws attention to an area I don't want to draw attention to.I don't see a problem for anyone really wearing one.I just chose not to.

To my eyes, waist packs tend to add bulk in just the spot where no bulk should be added. Now I'm sure that you, hydro, are trim and fit like your sons in that picture, but if, say, I wore one, it would be adding a big bump where I fight to have NO bump. :goodvibes

I like the one Ming Na is wearing (400 bucks????!!!!), but the touristy sort of thing that comes to mind is a big, overstuffed thing that, if I were wearing it, would look aesthetically awful.

That's just the take that my eyes have on it. :goodvibes

Thank you, Molly! :goodvibes My boyfriend tells me the same thing, he fully believes in seeing a chiropractor for back problems, as he had back problems during his football seasons and the wonders that his chiro did for him, he keeps telling me to go...

I honestly think it's from hours sitting at a computer without proper back support... :confused3

I, thankfully, don't have the issue of "adding attention to doesn't want to draw attention to".. But I can totally see how that is an issue for some people..

Ditto!!
But, you still have to look cute above all!!

Good Luck at the Bebe Outlet!

I have a belt bag that looks almost identical to this one:

http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/34110776/c/3.html

Mine is made by Coach, and I got it at the Coach outlet. It is really comfortable because it is so flat--so it doesn't have the bump of a fanny pack. It is hands free, and doesn't bother me around my waist. I think it looks cute with jeans or khakis--and I have a bucket hat (sun hat) that matches it!

Pacsafe also makes a great nylon fannypack--my husband uses one of those.

I too would opt for a waist pack if you have problems with packing a purse or backpack for long periods of time. I would caution though that you try to keep is small. No matter how little I try to take into the park with me, my husband or one of my kids is always asking me to hold this or that for them. After a while it really starts to weigh down that waste pack and I have actually ended the day with low back pain due to all the add weight of the waist pack in front. (ok, well at least I am blaming it on the waist pack anyway :rolleyes1 :rotfl: )

Trim, no not really. Fit, yes. :)

I guess some fanny packs I have seen are these large things people wear. Ours are really water bottle holders with a little pocket next to the bottles. Not much bulk.

If the fashion problem is the bulk, then I think I am OK. :cool2:

ScrapperkimmyD, that's super awesome you met Ming Na! Was that at Disneyland?

yes, it was. I was walking into the restroom there and saw someone I knew and was just about to say "Hey! What are you doing here???" When, just before I asked, I realized I knew her, but she didn't know me. So I just did my business and walked out. But I went straight to my DH and DD and told them who was in there. I sent DD in to tell other DD to hurry up and come out and I had DH standing on the steps and was going to have my family pose there on the steps and get a pic as Ming Na walked out. That way I wouldn't be bothering her.

Well, DD came walking out of the restroom with Ming Na, in conversation with her. I heard M say "Yes, she's right". DD had walked up to her and said "My Mommy says you were Mulan." So the 4 of us chatted a bit and eventually she saw that I had my camera in my hand and asked me if I wanted to take a picture. Of course, I said yes!

It was all very exciting. Especially since later that night we rode ToT with Lisa Welchel (Facts of Life, More time for Moms) and I, of course, bought the pic! :)

Oh, thank you, but that's not me!!!!

That's my DH and my oldest DD - the woman is Ming Na - the voice of Mulan.

My camera bag is a bit bulkier than that, but it doesn't look like a typical waist pack.

This is SO FUNNY! When I first saw this picture I thought, OMG I know this woman. She just happened to live in No CA which is where I live and I really thought I knew her from somewhere. I did, ER. I'm so glad I didn't make a fool of myself and PM her to say I know you, I've seen her somewhere. I thought maybe it was work, I do work at a hospital. Just not the one on ER.

Thanks for that some of these look great, have you got any ? Do you think there are any suitable for kids? I want each of my kids to have their own for snacks, their cameras, a little money and maybe a small water bottle.
