Fanny packs vs. Backpacks

Just curious as to what most people bring to carry all their stuff around in. I'm leaning towards a backpack, but am wondering if it gets in the way.

I have done both and while the fanny pack is less cumbersom I like carrying a backpack more. Mainly because it can hold more stuff. No matter what time of year it is I am always cold (especially when I am inside someplace) so a backpack can hold a sweatshirt.

I also have 2 small kids so it helps to carry their junk too.

If we are there with DD6, we use a backpack and DH and I take turns carrying or throw it in the stroller that we always rent that always seems to just carry a backpack because DD wants to walk

Anyway, if it is just DH and I, he carries a fannypack that covers all the stuff we need.

I use both..

I use my fanny pack for money, credit cards, passes, and cell phone.

I use the backpack for camera, maps, wipes, mints, or any other of the little necessities we need during the day.

Neither get in the way during rides.. I put my foot through the backpack straps while I go on roller coasters and I have never had a problem...

The fanny pack never interferes, though I did take it off in the bathroom and lost it once( it was returned ) so I will never take it off in the bathroom again.

I do both. I have a Disney World fanny pack that's a very nice size--holds my money, credit card, room key, sunglasses and even the mini-umbrella. Then, I wear a small purse size back pack to keep snacks in. Works out well, except when I have to open it at the entrance to be checked.

I wear 2 fanny packs, they never get in the
way on rides and between the 2 they hold
all that I need.

We travel with nothing at all but that's just us - our kids are 5 & 9 now so we don't need diapers or bottles or things like that.

If you DO wear a backpack, keep in mind the space they take up. I get whacked more times at Disney with backpacks (people turning around) than anywhere else. :)

I also carry both. My fanny pack has everything I need quickly, like $, camera, tylenol. My backpack carries ponchos & water.

Fanny pack definately!!!

You can fit everything in there, money, tylenol, bandaids, room key, sunglasses, camara and a few extras.

I never understand why people who don't have kids use backpacks.

I have always done a fanny pack and a small diaper bag - that was DD#1 was ages 2,3 & 4. Now, we are traveling with DD#2 who will be 13 months, and I have a feeling I will be using the backpack.:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I'll be using a fanny pack and a somewhat clear vinyl tote bag, that I used last year, the tote bag earned me several compliments from the security people when we were entering the parks. Its also easy to see the things you want in the bag.

I use a fanny pack and a fast pass holder that I wear around my neck. Usually some one in our party takes a back pack and we all stuff a few things in it, like jackets or snacks. Neither seems to get in the way on any of the rides!

I vote for fanny pack! That way, I don't accidently set it down and forget to pick it up. A handy place to store my videocamera and I can whip it out at a moment's notice, while on rides or whatever. Hope that helps.

Do you think backpacks get in the way on rides??

I never carried backpack but last trip in disney i wished i had cuz
i had to wear a hot sweater around my waist for air conditioned rides

now i'm bringing video camera and that won't fit in fanny pack

Always a back pack as I can't bring myself to wear a fanny pack.

I have also used a satchel bag which is better on my back, but the best thing is that it fits better on the stroller. The best option is to put everything on the stroller. Forget about putting the kids in the stroller, consider it more a shopping cart. I suppose when the kids get older, we will just have to rent a kid to justify the stroller.

Is security only checking backpacks or do they look in fanny packs also?

I wear one, and DH wears one. I carry my cell phone, the park tickets, half our money for the day, moleskin, Advil, hand wipes, etc. DH (who has a slightly bigger fanny pack) carries his cell phone, the camera and extra camera battery. We each carry a room key.

We like to travel light, our children are older (12 and 15) and we usually travel during hot times of the year, so we don't need to carry jackets. If we ever get to go back in December, I might carry a backpack for jackets, although I really think it'll get in the way so I'd prefer not to.

BONZO - If I'm anywhere else but WDW, you would never in a million years catch me wearing a fanny pack - how geeky can you get?! But WDW is different; I don't feel even a little nerdy there with my fanny pack. The fanny pack is so convenient and there are so many other people wearing them, I don't feel at all weird wearing it! :D

Do many men wear fanny packs at Disney? I have never wore one but I think I could fit everything I need in one and not carry a back pack.
