Fanning the rumour flames

Jim Hill is not what I consider reliable. (He's been closing the COP for years. He claims that Tarzan Rocks was closed because Disney won't have Broadway show and a park show at the same time. I guess Disney didn't notice Fesitval of the Lion King or Beauty and the Beast... shh... don't tell them LOL!)

That's why I said he's fanning the flames, not putting them out!:lmao: I do like his columns as, regardless of whether his predictions come true, they tend to give you something to think about and they often spark some debate.

He's also been predicting the closing of DisneyQuest for the last few years, and thankfully been wrong on that so far :thumbsup2

The weird thing is, he's saying that the resorts aren't occupied much of the year - and this year is a HUGE year for Disney. If gas prices went up to $5.00 a gallon, that might not end up being the case. But try getting a room for mid-April through much of May. Yes, there is a slow period of time in August and September. That is how it's been for a very long time. But there aren't as many slow periods currently as there used to be.

True...

Very true....and tactful (much more tactful than I would have been).

Jim used to be very good. Now he shows glimmers of "the old" Jim occasionally, but largely he's just become a ....well.....you know what, I'll follow your example of tact.

The article being discussed here is a great example of his current state. He creates the angle, shoves some square pegs in round holes, adds 2 + 2, and comes up with 5....the answer he was looking for when he decided to try to write the article. And he's found the best way to drive traffic at his website is to say outrageous things, no matter how little actual "fact" supports them. The phrase (and again, I'm trying to be tactful) "tabloid journalism" comes to mind.....

Of course, despite all that, I still visit the site every so often....the glimmers of "the old" Jim come out just frequently enough to make it worthwhile.

The Jim Hill myths are the reason that I will no longer buy the Unoffical Guide. I refuse to pay for his publicity. If they take him out I will buy again, but why should you pay good money for "rumors" that he makes up just to get ink?
