Monday, January 30 –

Our last day – and it is raining. Thought we could get a little park time in or pool time, but weather did not cooperate at all. And it was cool. We checked out of the Studio, stowed our luggage in the car and went into the HH. Settled down in the library end of the HH. DGD loved the little wicker chairs in front of the TV. Lots of cartoons on the loop and she enjoyed that a lot. Also played Pollies and various other things. Went into Olivia’s for lunch. Yes, chicken fingers once more. But DGD enjoyed the grape tomatoes which came on our salads, so we asked the CM if by chance the kitchen could provide a small bowl of them for her. And they did. She ate them all - - a dozen or more. Dear, funny little girl!

The sun is trying to come out, but rain is still definitely here, so we continue to wait in HH. At the right time, DGD and I repair to the ladies room to change into our warmer traveling clothes. Velour running suits for both of us. And then sadly we must get into the car for the trip to the airport. Uneventful – everything goes pretty smoothly. We get rid of car, lug bags over to check-in, have to have a little help with check-in as for some reason all of our reservations do not come up together. Lug bags over to x-ray equipment and head on down to security. Rather long lines, but they move along quickly. Train over to gate and then a stop at Burger King for our dinner. Yes, chicken fingers. But did you know that BK’s are in the shape of crowns! Yes, that is correct. What a hoot! Sat next to the window so DGD could watch planes. Still raining off and on.

Down to the gate and plane loads rather quickly after we get there. And takes off rather quickly. Our arrival time was scheduled as 8:01 pm in Cincinnati. We actually landed at 7:30 pm. Talk about flying! DGD said her ears were okay, just a minor disturbance, but she was so happy to say that she could hear – her ears were fine. (I had given her decongestant twice during the day before the flight.) When we land, she asks for ice cream. How to tell her that vacation is over and we have to just get the luggage and go home. No more Mickey bars – no more pin trading – no more stroller aerobics, no more people lifting her over the cracks in the pavement. We told her she could have ice cream when she got home. Really too sad.

Down the long concourse and over to the train, up the escalator and all the while singing “Zippidy Doo Dah.” GDG heard the song on the Splash Mountain ride and we have been teaching her the words for the past two days. And now she’s got it and we are singing it – even GPA – who usually won’t embarrass himself in a public place. People are looking at us, but they are smiling and – so are we!

DDIL meets us at the top of the escalator and DGD is happy to see her. We retrieve all the luggage and make our way home.

SYNOPSIS

Once again – a great time was had by all. The weather was perfect other than we would have hoped for just a little more warmth. But when the sun is shining and the palm trees are waving and the grass is green and flowers are blooming, you don’t complain. We did a few different things this time, e.g., miniature golf, pizza from Uno’s, and that makes the whole experience a little new each time we go. What a wonderful opportunity for us to spend time together as a family. I truly just love that and I think I mentioned that to the family while we were sitting somewhere eating. The best part of the trip -- just sitting in a relaxed setting and enjoying one another’s company.

Two very tiny material things that made the trip really enjoyable were the portable DVD player. What an amazing thing. And DGS’s portable Game Boy – or whatever it was. Down times were always made more pleasurable when the kids are happily occupied.

I hope there will be many more of these times together and I pray for more grandchildren with whom to have these same kind of “special” trips.

Thanks for this forum -- I enjoy reading trip reports so much. Hope you enjoy this one.

My gs is a tomato nut too........this is to funny....sounds like your special time with dgd was great too......I am anxious for one more family visit before our granddaughter goes off to college in 2007....that makes me sad...
Thanks again for your report and food reviews and attractions ....it was great

I just finished reading your entire report...very enjoyable! You are such lovely grandparents. All children should be so lucky. I think Disney is the best place to spend time with family and I so enjoyed reading of your family's wonderful time. Thanx so much for sharing.

What a blessing you are to your family!! My DD (now 7) was just over 2 when my sweet MIL and FIL tenderly asked if they could take her to Disney. I considered being selfish and saying that I wanted to be the one to take her the first time, but then realized how fortunate I was to have in-laws that WANTED to spend time with my 2 yr old! We've all loved Disney ever since! I know you will keep a copy of this trip report for her to have - it will be a very special memory!

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for reading all the way through this. We did have a wonderful time. Family trips like these don't come that often due to expense and work calendars, etc. But everyone wants to go back because there is always something new and we enjoy one another's company. Our next trip will be in June with BIL and SIL (adults only). It will be a week with Vero Beach first and then Boardwalk. And we have a trip planned for just us two for December. Have always wanted to see all the Christmas decorations and the special show at Epcot. Once again, thanks for reading and making comments.

I just read the 1st 4 days, and discovered the rest of the trip!! :cool1: Feel like Xmas :goodvibes

I usually read them offline,so wanted to thank you for taking the time to write it. I just love trip reports.

And tell your DH that "longer the better" is great. It makes me feel I right there with your family.Especially when it will be at least 9 months till my next trip.

Thanks again

Susan

Thank you for taking the time to write your trip report. I enjoyed reading it all, as it was very touching. You and your husband are wonderful, caring grandparents! :goodvibes
Hoping my children do okay on the plane ride as both of them have had a history of ear infections. (They also have never flown before). I might do like you did and give them decongestant before hand.

What a magical trip for all of you! I really enjoyed your reports! Thanks for posting!

Great report - reminds me of the days when I was little and grandma and grandpa would take me to Disneyland. There will be nothing like those memories! Thanks for sharing! :goodvibes

I just want to tell you I read all your posts for your trip report. Bless your heart for being such a caring and wonderful grandmother.

My MIL was at my house last nite and she is a little miffed that her only other granddaughter is going to WDW with her other grandparents and parents. She then told me how it is 20 years ago this week, that she went to WDW with her sister and her husband. Throughout these 20 years she told my 4 kids that she would take them to WDW. When we went in 2000, we tried to plan something with her, but she and her husband had every excuse not to go, so it never happened. How sad. I am so glad that I didn't wait for her and we went.

Again, thanks for sharing your report.

Enjoyed reading your reports ~ Thanx for posting.

Thanks for the great report. I have read it from the beginning and am working harder than ever to convince my parents to come with us and DS 5.
