We are staying off site :sad1: We will be doing most of our own "cooking" at our condo. I am interested in hearing about what family resturants are in the area that are not horribly expensive and things me might want to try. We will be staying at Summer Bay (which I understand to be on 192).

Food is so expensive and just will not be a top priority but we will want to eat out some.

We have a home located on 192 west. We enjoy TGIFridays, Taco Bell, Chili's. They are your typical chain restaurants. 192 is very long I am not sure if you are located near the west end of it? I am sure you can find anything at both ends. These are prtty inexpensive.

My kids love the Golden Corral. About $10 a person and everything you can imagine. We thought the quality was good for a middle of the road buffet. We always have to hit it, because it's their favorite place. One year my DD21 (vegetarian) went with us and had to "endure" ---but it turns out she also enjoyed it as lots of choices for her. As a sidenote, we tried the one on International and didn't care for it. We always go to the one closest to the Vistana. Is it Vineland? Someone will know.

We also hit the Red Lobster this time and loved it. We have them here but of course out here we don't have the whole lobsters etc that we were raised with on the East coast. We really enjoyed that as well.

One year we went to a rib joint called Sonny's. While I'm not a rib eater the family liked it and I got some chicken that was pretty good. It was a real Southern, finger lickin environment. Nothing fancy.

If you decide you want to splurge-- our must go $$ is OHana's (nicknamed by family as Yo-Mama's... we are a strange bunch, I have no idea how they got that out of Ohana's-- maybe it's the family theme) on Disney property. We all LOVE it there and it's a must. We always get a ps for around fireworks time and enjoy the yummy food, and view.

We also do a lot of cooking as we always condo but Steak n Shake for lunch is OK and we always do Friendly's for ice cream because we don't have it out here. Also, for pizza Sbarro's is much better on the east coast than the west and we have pizza there when we can.

Good luck and HTH
Jenn

bob evans and cracker barrel are family friendly and both are located on east and west 192 :thewave:

More...more....sure would appreciate your suggestions. we are staying very close to the original poster...and needed some of your suggestions.

Try JT'S on the 192 it is a popular Family Restaurant and Bar where you can phone to order a take out , have an informal drink, play some games-they have a pool room out back or dine more formally.Good value too .

Jt's Prime Time Restaurant & Bar
16299 West Irlo Bronson Mem Highway, Kissimmee, FL 34741
(407) 239-6555

Ohana-means family-if I'm not mistaken???? Like all these suggestions

Golden Coral is awesome. When you go in first go in the exit and get the
coupon book. There are usually several. The meals are under 10.00pp.
Also a must is Sweet Tomatoes located down by the Beltz outlet mall. That
is one of our favorites. We don't have to really budget-only 1 child and we
make it a point to go to these places several times ea. year. We look forward
to it.

Also there was a nice Sizzler(which if you have multi generations- it is a good variety) we had a pool home and only had one dinner out as a group and we went there. Great choice for us- grandmas and kiddos were happy ;-)

I've never been to Golden Corral but I want to try it when we're at the Nick hotel next month. Is it near there?

The Golden Coral was on 535, off the I-4 exit. There is also one on 192. I think there is another on International Drive. I don't have the book here or I would look it up, sorry.

There is a Golden Corral on 192 on the way to Summer Bay. Also a Cracker Barrel, Perkins, Wendy's, BK, Outback, TGI Fridays, Giordannos Pizza and lots more. On the way back to Summer Bay from any of the parks you will have endless choices along 192. Plenty of familiar chain restaurants and some local or regional choices as well.

A little further up on 192, passed the Disney turn, we went to Macaroni Grill. It's a chain we are familiar with but we really like the overall value and food quality. We weren't too impressed with Golden Corral on 192 for breakfast. Could have been us since we werent familiar with it and it was very busy when we were there but I was wishing we went to IHOP instead.

You should be able to find whatever type of restaurant you need in that area. Have a great trip.

If your family likes Italian try Bucca di Beppo. Everything is served family style so the portions are HUGE. They have a booth in the kitchen you can reserve if your family might get a kick out of that. Whatever you do, don't order one dish per person or you will have wayyyyyy too much.

For inexpensive Mexican, try Chevys or Don Pablos.

For seafood that's also fun, try Joe's Crab Shack.

I live off of 192 about a mile east from Summer Bay. There are lots of decent restaurants nearby. If you take 192 East towards Disney, there is a new Houlihan's that just opened (I haven't eaten at this location, but I have eaten at others, and it was good). There is a TGI Friday, Cracker Barrell, Outback Steakhouse, a decent Chinese place, Taco Bell, and Giordano's (great pizza!!!) in the Formosa Gardens shopping center which is about 4 miles or so east on 192 from Summer Bay. There is also a Dairy Queen there also if you are looking for dessert.
I would recommend avoiding Beef O Brady's (which is located in a mini-mall with Subway and Domino's on 192)...I got massive food poisoning from that place, and one of the servers who used to work there told a friend of mine that he would never ever eat there himself. The Subway and Domino's are great - I eat at those place all the time, but I would avoid Beef O Brady's. There is also a Papa John's in the Publix Shopping Center (on 192 right before you get to Route 27), which is very close to Summer Bay.

Ok. I feel like a broken record but I can't believe no one has said Sweet Tomatoes. Here is their site:
http://www.sweettomatoes.com/locations/restaurant.asp?store_id=72

Soups, salads, breads/muffins, pizza, pastas, ice cream bar/desserts. ALL freshly made everyday and you can see what their menu is for that week/month and pick the day you like the menu best.

We went for lunch one day because it is cheaper at lunch and we didn't get any beverages other than water.
Adults $6.99
Children 6-12 $4.49
Children 3-5 $1.49
under 3 free

Our whole family ate for $26.04 including tax! That was the deal of the week, let me tell you. And we're talking good, fresh food. Now it's a tradition to go here.
