It sounds to me as if the op's family is in Orlando and she wants them to be able to visit. I don't think it is a matter of getting around the occupancy by having them stay offsite. I think they live offsite and want to visit.
It IS an occupancy issue, and here's why.
So, you think it's OK fo 15 day visitors. What if one of them decides to bring a friend - that's 16. What if someone else does - that's 17. How about 20? How about 50? How about 100? How about 200? Where do you draw the line?
I say the line is drawn at the occupancy for each room.
The resources at the resort are there for the use of the guests.
What if one of these "day guests", who are not on the reservation and are not paying to be there, has a serious accident. Maybe they slip and break a leg? Maybe they drown in the pool. As a
DVC member, are YOU comfortable paying for that?
Operational costs of a family's stay is figured into the room cost (or point cost) which includes utilties, toiletries, staff, insurance, wear and tear, etc. Having extra people than what is allotted skews those figures.
It seems to me that the OP was NOT trying to break the rules, and I hope this doesn't seem like I'm attacking him (or her). I'm just trying to make blanket statements about the situation and situations like this that may occur in the future, not the person. However, we all know there are some people who DO try to push the limits. Sure, you could fit 5 or 6 people in a studio or 1BR, but the rules say 4. That is not some arbitrary # that Disney figured on, there is a reason behind it, a large part of it is in figuring the operational costs per room per night.
There's a LOT more to the decision to say "Cool, have a party, bring lots of friends, have fun!" Of course I'd LOVE to say that, too, and be the "good guy", but, IMHO, there are a lot of serious things that people who have that view are overlooking..
Perhaps on my next visit, I'll make LOTS of friends in the parks, invite them ALL back to OKW for a big party in my studio, use the pools (and the towels), use the showers, use the pool chairs, we can all do our laundry, rent some free videos, clog up the resort bus, cook up lots of meals, have a BALL. I'll be REAL popular with my "new friends." Most of you don't seem to mind - heck - you're ALL invited, whether you're a DVC member or not. Spread the word! (no Universal guests allowed, though).
