Family on TIGHT budget, HELP!

Honestly, I think ya'll have provided nine pages of sustenance for one who lives under a bridge.

More than likely yes, but it may provide some insight for others who believe Disney is such a bargain.

I don't give money to strangers on the internet. With one post, we have no idea if this story is even true (and frankly, we've been trolled better longer for financial gain on this board).

When I give money - and I give a lot of money - it goes to people who need food and housing - not Disney trips. It goes to services for women who have been raped or abused by their spouses and kids with cancer. It goes to disadvantaged urban girls who get three days at camp. It goes to orphanages in Korea. And it goes to help the real people in my life.

This has to be a joke, right? :rotfl2:

I suspect it isn't. When this thread first opened I almost posted a warning about people who come on here and tell their sob stories hoping to get offered money - but with a single post, an no activated PMs, I figured the risk of someone getting scammed by the OP was minimal, and she probably wasn't out to scam anyway.

I know. I have a hard time believing people are truly that gullible.

I don't know of anyone who believes Disney is a "bargain". In fact, I know many families who just assume they could never go because it's so expensive, without ever even checking into it.

The OP asked for ideas on how she could be able to go with a very tight budget. Some people gave her great ideas on ways to earn extra money, but to others, wow! I thought it was very uncouth to criticize someone else's income. Guess not on the interwebz, where people feel like they can say whatever since they're not face to face. :confused3 I wouldn't blame her if she hadn't been back to read this thread. Do you think it would make a single mom feel better to say she shouldn't even be thinking about taking her children to Disney on her budget? It just makes me sad....

To the OP: Definitely plan to go during a low season time. If you really want to stay onsite, the value hotel rates are cheaper and you can get more done in a shorter stay. You might even get free dining. Also, don't rush it. Since it will probably take awhile to save up, don't worry if your oldest becomes a Disney adult before you get there. While it will raise the price, it won't make the trip not doable. Swagbucks and some of the survey websites are good for earning extra money. Put any extra change you have in a jar and it will add up. You'll get there. :goodvibes

It's just being realistic. Just going by what the OP said, her weekly check and 'crazy bills', to me that says no she can't afford it. Disney is an expensive vacation, no matter how much you cut corners or what advice you give. Not everyone can afford to go and I am sure the kids will be just fine if they never make it. Reality sucks sometimes.

It seems like the mods aren't very vigilant here, but the request for money should be removed. I was, what I consider to be, "attacked" in a thread by another poster. I didn't report it because I couldn't care less what someone thinks about me and my aptitude at my job, but on other boards, the mods would have picked up on it.

It is interesting that the OP hasn't at least responded, but regardless, there is some good information for others on this thread.

Wow you people ARE snarky! She posted what she posted, then immediately got the snarky comments about is this a joke??? Are you for real??? Then came the preachy comments about where she should donate her 100 dollars. Also her first response she did not virtually curse anyone! I swear sometimes people's reading comprehension or lack thereof stinks! Who are you to preach to anyone what they do with their money!?!?! She can flush it down the toilet if she is so inclined! It would be like me telling all of you that you have to donate money to all of my favorite equine rescues!!! As for the original poster she probably came back read the comments and ran with her tail between her legs in shame! Yes there was some good advice for her and I hope she was able to pick her way through the preaching and the nastiness to learn something from the good comments! Peace out people done with this snarkfest there should be a warning label on Google when they find "the dis boards"

I don't care what she does with her money - her problem was she suggested what I do with mine, and other people's here. And when it was pointed out to her that this was a bad idea and against board rules or that we might want to spend our charitable dollars doing something we felt more worthwhile, she flew off the handle. Called us douches, said we waste more than that.

I have no problem with what she wants to do with her money. I have a problem with her telling others that what they want to do with their money is wrong and then going on to call people name and "curse"

If she wants to find homeless folks in her town and take them to Disney go for it. If she wants to take other families to Disney go for it. But telling others that they are "wrong" for not embracing her vision of "charity" is just bad form.

(And IMHO those who "brag" about how much good they do often tend to be in it more to "brag" then for good reasons. It's not about recognition IMHO While I would never have bought my kid an Elsa dress I don't think less of those who do. I don't look at them and think they did anything wrong and I am better then they are. I probably buy things that they wouldn't appreciate either. Doesn't mean either of us are "bad" people and don't donate to charity LOL! )

It doesn't matter to me what she does with her money. Preaching about how others should be spending their money is where she went wrong.
