We want to stay on property but we can only squeeze a budget for moderate resort, has any one stayed with a family of six at port orlands. I know it only sleeps five but we were thinking of bringing a small air mattress. what are your thoughts? Have 2 girls 16 and 6 in a bed 13 year old boy on bunk wife and I with 5year old with autism and Down's syndrome in same bed, he usually ends up with us in bed any given day he does not walk or talk yet and is the size of a four year old.

Sorry but you will need two rooms as the capacity is 5. How about two rooms at a value resort?

It is against fire codes. If caught you will be "asked" to leave and don't expect a reimbursement. Also you will only be given a maximum of five keys so emhs or anything else that requires a key would be out.
Look at the family suites at aoa or all star music or the cabins at fort wilderness.

ASMu is probably your best option. A suite at AoA, wilderness cabins and a room at Poly were nearly the same ($300-350) for our family of 6 (kids are 7, 6, 2 and 1) for early October. ASMu was in the $250 range per night.

Ugh!!! don't want to get evicted from disney, maybe we will do two adjoining rooms at all stars. That's still out of budget but maybe we can make it work. Disney needs more options for large families.

I really don't understand the DVc point system I guess I should do some investigating.

There are a couple websites that help you with renting points. Just google DVC rental. I've looked at David's Vacation Club Rentals for our next trip. Very easy to use his sight to see what the cost would be and he is very quick to answer any questions you might have.

They do have options - two rooms, family suite, villas, wilderness cabin. That's four different ways to do it. More people cost more money - that's true in all facets of life.

Not to mention camping at fort wilderness. If you want to spend more, there are plenty of resorts with suites, including at corondo springs that hold six.

Having more kids costs more money. Its a fact of life. From groceries to clothes to cars to hotel rooms, more people = more money. Its not like you get a discount if you are single or a couple. :confused3

Yes those are options just wish there were low cost options, comparable to moderate rates, all star rates would be great but just not feasiabl.

The most economical option is camping. We stayed at FW a half-dozen times or so. It was the only way my parents afforded to take a family of 6 to WDW. There are also hotels off site that are cheaper.

Have you looked at renting DVC points?

The OP would need a two bedroom villa. And even with renting, it would probably cost more than a Family Suite at the All Stars or AOA or a cabin at FW.

Jim, if you still want to check out renting, go over to the DVC Rent/Trade Board (you need to be logged into the DIS to read it) and read the sticky threads at the top of the board. They should give you information on "renting points". There are drawbacks to the process, though.

Are you set on staying on site? There are some great locations very close to property for much less than onsite. You can get a condo to sleep up to 8 people for less than $100/night.

We have a family of six too and, though I love staying on property, we just can't afford it now.

The family suites, at least when we're going, are $230/night. Last year we stayed at the Doubletree (down the street from DTD) for $115. For a weeklong vacation that was a huge savings. This year we will be renting a condo $95/night for 3bdms.

As much as I love staying on property, love not having a car, love park hopping...Disney prices it such that it no longer makes any sense at all for us.

They will not allow you to book the room with 6 guest, due to the fire codes, only 5 max are allowed.

Your best bet is to rent a suite at one of the values.

we are a family of 5 we booked through Travelocity this time around- (2 weeks to go!) we got 2 rooms at all star sports for $90 each a night- cheaper than the one we had at Port Orleans, and cheaper than a suite. maybe try other sites- BTW the 13 yr old would NEVER fit on the murphy bed- my 10 yr old 9at the time) barely fit and my 11 ye old fell off...long legs

OP we're a family of 6 and have found the most economical way for us to go is to rent a vacation home. Last trip I rented a 5 bedroom/3 bath private pool home for $700/week inclusive of all taxes and fees.

I was skeptical the first time we stayed off-site, but was quickly converted. My children love having all the room, a private pool and a game room. Now the only time we stay on-site is when only two of us are traveling.

We've always stayed offsite and rented a car. It's way cheaper than onsite since we have to travel during the most expensive times of year due to the school schedule. You can find a nice condo with 2+ bedrooms for under $100 a night.
