we are a family of six and our first thought is that the only resort that fits our budget, and size is the suites at AOA. It will be my wife, me, 3 preteens, and grandma. The more I think about it though, I am a little worried that the suites at AOA will be pretty small for all of us.

So I started to look around at other options and Im not seeing anything that is in our price range and fits us all comfortably. I know about the cabins at the wilderness but we dont really think those are for us. Not really the theme style we were looking for and it looks like nothing close, like cafe, pool and stuff like that.

so other then AOA at around 250 a night, there is the Colorado and then everything goes through the roof in price, like 500 to 700 a night. I just dont feel there are many great options for a family our size. I think our dream would be a savanna view room at AKL but the only option there is a suit that costs over 700 a night!

Whats everyones thought and suggestions?

You are right - there really are not many options! You can try to get connecting rooms at a value or moderate. Two value rooms would actually be cheaper than the suite. The moderate would probably be more comfortable with 4 real beds, but it is a bit more than the price of an AoA suite.

You can get a suite that sleep 6 at a number of off site hotels for cheaper than the AoA suites, often with a kitchen. I don't have experience with that myself, but have been considering it for a future visit. Or you can rent points for a villa. When I priced that it seemed to be about a 40% savings. Also, the DVC villas have a full kitchen too so you could save some money by eating in the room rather than eating out 3x a day.

We really enjoyed the AoA suite, but with 6 people each person has to share a bed. The table bed is actually quite comfortable, but would grandma be unhappy to share a bed? I do agree that other options might work better for you.

Good luck!

we stayed here in the summer of 2011. there were 4 kids. ages 12-19 at the time Me and my husband and my parents. there were 2 master bedrooms with jetted tubs and showers and another bedroom with 2 twins a pullout couch in the LR another full bathroom seating for 6 at the DR table and a full kitchen. AMPLE room for everyone. they offer smaller rooms too and very close to Disney. we also went to AOA this past summer and had 6 in the room. the boys shared the pullout in the LR the girls had the murphy bed in the LR and my husband and I had the bedroom with bath/shower and queen bed. It was a bit tight for us. especially with having to choose between a table or a bed... but the atmosphere was fantastic! we stayed in Lion King.

One other option would be to rent DVC points for a 2 bedroom villa. It is still pricey, but much cheaper than Disney would charge and cheaper than the suites. We stayed in a 2 bedroom at BLT last November with 3 kids and 4 adults and had PLENTY of room. Plus, the full kitchen and washer/dryer are fantastic amenities. Depending on when you travel, a 2 bedroom will generally run you around $2800-$3200 for 7 nights.

I would go with 2 rooms, keeping in mind that they may not connect or be next door to each other.

Technically you could all fit into an All Star Family Suite too. Those are a bit cheaper than the suites at AoA. There is a queen bed in the bedroom, and 3 pull outs in the living room area. Two people can share the couch pull out, and the other 2 pull outs would hold 1 person each. We have done that before, but it depends on how much togetherness you all can stand.;)

a 2 br villa is the best if you want a lot of space. they are usually well over 1000 sq ft and fabulous!

You could price out:
2 Value Resort rooms
2 rooms at Swan/Dolphin
Renting DVC Points

We have stayed at the FW Cabins and enjoyed it. We did rent a golf cart and that made transportation very easy. We also liked the boat ride to MK.

We have also stayed at the Swan and enjoyed the entire Boardwalk area. Great to be able to walk/boat to Epcot & Studios.

We love staying at DVC resorts. So much space. We have stayed at BLT & BCV. Both are wonderful!

Happy planning!
