I do not think that some people are getting the OP's point. She (and I for that matter) would like to have more OPTIONS available to us without buying DVC. We do not want a hand-out. My children are all very young and very small. We sleep very comfortable at POR Alligator Bayou with the trundle mattress. It would be nice if they has something like family suites at POR. (WE LOVE POR!!) At this point we are going to start saving for DVC after this trip because we know that is the only REAL option for us. I have heard too many nightmare stories about the Value Resorts to feel comfortable staying at one. Such as- our Children's Church pastor ( also a Disney NUT) told us that the Value that he stayed in had a shower with no edge- Nothing to hold the water back from the rest of the restroom except for the shower curtain. Personally, that sounds a little dangerous with young children. Or heck even with my clumsy self! I could not understand a hotel meant for children with no bathtub. How many children do you know that like showers? I have also been told that the walls are thin and what-not. The bus issue has been mentioned by everyone that I know that has stayed at a Value-period. It really ticked them all off. We do not want a handout. We know that we are going to have paying them more money for a family as large as ours. We still have to buy tickets and food and souveneirs for all our stinkin' cuties. I feel that if we are spending that much money that they should figure out a solution that is more "affordable" for the actual lodging. Like a group discount. LOL! OMG I never thought that I would ever utter the words group discount concerning my family size!

Your affordable lodging consists of FW Cabins which sleep six. They have been around for years. Most of the deluxe resorts will sleep 5. POR will sleep five with the trundle bed. The All Stars family suites will sleep 6. The DVC resorts sleep 8 in the two bedroom villa.

However, Disney is in the business of making money and they don't run hostels where everyone sleeps in one room in lots of bunks or on the floor.

And the shower your pastor was talking about? That's a handicapped accessible room with roll in shower for persons who need to use a wheelchair. There are a few individuals who can't climb into a tub, you know.

I wasn't looking for a smart-aleck come-back. We are a family of 6. I am well aware that there a alot of options for families of 5. In our circle a family of 5 is not considered a large family. A medium family, maybe...... A family of 6 is the starting point for largeness to us. We did not sleep on the floor at POR. My husband and I shared a bed, my 2 daughters weighing about 30 lbs each shared a bed, and my 2 sons weighing 35 lbs and 25 lbs shared the trundle. There was plenty of room. AKL has a maximum occupancy of 5 for a Deluxe Bunk Bed room. There is plenty of space for my teeny kids and us on those 3 beds- the CM even agreed with me on that fact. I could see getting another room if my children were older or bigger- that doesn't take a rocket scientist. But they aren't. At home they all have their own beds and 9 times out of 10 they are sleeping in one bed with at least one of their siblings because they PREFER to. I feel sad for people like you that have so little JOY in their lives that they have to try and bring other people down too.

P.S. to the OP Disney told me tonight that rooms are available at Coronado Springs for families of 6 for 380 per night in 2007. ( I was asking about next November) and Fort Wilderness has Cabins available for famlies of 6 for 289 per night in 2007. The Cabins sound cool because they have water transportation that can take you to MK and also trams. We might do that next year if we can't wait 2 years to save up the $$ for DVC. (We are a cash only familia as my husband detests credit.) Good Luck and Have Fun at MY FAVORITE PLACE ON EARTH!!!

Sorry, I missed the rudeness and sarcasm in the previous post. The most dire issue you complained about when you stated your displeasure at the idea of a Value dealt with the shower, which some of us immediately recognized as a handicap-accessible design. No intent to be rude or sarcastic, but neither would it be a reason to feel that someone had little joy in their lives and were trying to bring anyone down...

I'm sorry if you thought I was being sarcastic. I really didn't understand that you understood about HC accessible rooms. I just didn't get your humor.

And I totally understand what you and the OP are saying about getting additional options, but I was just trying to point out what options you already have. You may not like the prices, but that's what you get when you need room for more people.

All the CMs in the world may agree with you that you could squeeze a few extra people in the room, but it still would be against Disney rules and the occupancy rules for fire safety.

Some of you keep screaming that you need more options, but there are many options. You just don't like any of them. That would be something you need to deal with, not Disney. You have to decide what you would like to pay for. Also, you do not need to buy into DVC, you can rent points, which is what my family of 6 has done for our next trip. Actually, we had a hard time deciding where to stay, there are so many choices.

Frankly, some of you are starting to sound like spoiled kids. Whining that you want all the benefits of a deluxe resort, without having to pay for them, just because you have larger families. It was your choice to have more children, knowing full well they will make everything cost more. Why is it a shock that they make a Disney vacation more expensive?

Wow....what a heated debate!!!! I have to agree with so many others...there are plenty of options.....!!!!!!! I am traveling with my family of 5 plus my parents. We had a hard time making up our minds as to where we wanted to stay! We considered the cabins for us and my parents at the contemporary for a while. But we just couldn't stop thinking about stormalong bay and the cape may cafe! So we now have reservations at the beach club villas!!!! We all stayed in a 2 bedroom at BWV a few years ago...but decided to do 2 studios this time instead. We are not owners, but have had no problems with renting points. A beach club villa studio for only $130/night! That's Hot!!!! woo hoo!

I don't think anyone here is saying they want something for nothing.Once again I must say I never thought about vacation cost when I had my children.I thought about wanting to have a lot of children in my family as I and my DH had growing up and that we were in love and the more the merrier.Cost of Disney vacation was not an issue.Just alittle FYI if you book a certain amout of cabins on a cruise you get a discounted rate.All some of us are saying it would be nice if Disney gave some consideration to the larger family.They just offered free dinning for Sept.Maybe once a year they could do something geared towards larger families.What would be so wrong about that?I have myself ,DH, and 5 children ,all under 16, so I would be paying for everything .there is no splitting cost with grandparents and such.Those of you who don't understand what some of us are saying obviously aren't dealing with the money factor as much as the rest of us are and good for you .You know what.There is no reason for the nastiness just because you don't understand where we are coming from.Its called a different opinion.

Wow! I can never understand why people get so mean and nasty toward someone who is asking for advice on something. I have 4 kids--dd (5), dd (4) and twin ds (13 months) and it will be difficult and expensive to plan a Disney vacation. I have always stayed at a moderate or value resort so it wont be hard for me to simple get two rooms at a value. I like having two bathrooms and some extra space. So obviously there are options for large families, but as stated some might not like the options available. I guess I can understand why some who arent comfortable staying in a Value resort might wish there was a cheaper option than getting two rooms at a deluxe resort. No one was demanding anything.

This year I am just taking the girls with me on the trip so we wont have any problems, but next year will be a different story. We will have to figure out where we will stay. I am still getting use to being a large family and all the hassles (and joys) that come along with it.

Can anyone give more details on renting DVC points? For example a price comparison between DVC points and 2 rooms at POP or ASM etc.
By the way, DH did ask how will we afford Disney if we add a fourth child to our clan? I told him a family of six will be better, because now everyone would have a riding partner on the rides! With 5 in the group, dad or mom gets to ride by themselves or with a complete stranger! lol

Free dining is available to anyone, any size family, as long as they were staying onsite. Why in the world should Disney offer a deal just for larger families? That is, unless it's offered to everyone - smaller families could bring friends, or get a discount on any room... hey wait, Disney does do that, it's called VALUE SEASON...

To ask to be given something just because you chose to have a lot of kids - that cracks me up!

Maybe if you spent as much time researching the many rooms/suites/villas available that would fit your family as you do insulting people who do not agree with you, you would have a nice vacation.

What next? Are you going to complain that Disney should redo their seasons to suit you?

As you poke around you will see it and at some point you will have it happen to you. I think that some folks actually go around trolling for this sort of thing. It happens so often that many people include in their post 'No flames please'. It's sad really. I though WDW was supposed to be the happiest place on earth yet it attracks some very angry people.

I know there are options for larger familes, and I agree that I don't like some of them. I mentioned this before but am just curious what everyine else thinks- I think it is insane to pay for a hotel room to sleep on a sofa bed. This is why I don't find the Family Suites appealing. Anyone else have any thoughts or experience with them?

Yep, I admit it makes me angry when people think they are owed something by Disney. Like a resort with all the perks of the deluxe resorts, but only having to pay what a value would cost because they have lots of children. Or when people try to help the poster and point out options and are insulted or told that they just don't understand. Those are some of the things on this thread that make me angry.

THERE ARE OPTIONS FOR LARGER FAMILIES. Maybe you heard it that time.

1. 2 rooms at a value
2. All-star suites
3. 2 rooms at a moderate
4. 2 rooms at a deluxe
5. Rent any off the many villas available from a DVCr. Renting points for a 2 bedroom would be as cheap as 2 rooms at a moderate.
6. The Fort Wilderness Cabins
7. Stay offsite (gasp!) We have done that many times! You can get a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite with breakfast for under $150. Right by DTD.

Also, do you have AAA? You get a discount on Disney rooms. Each season is a different % off.

You can save money other ways too. Like not getting hopper passes. Like having lunch be your big meal of the day.

Really, it is insulting that you think those of us who pay for 2 rooms must have cushy jobs or no understanding of wanting to save money. We do. We just also know that Disney sets the rules, and we follow them.
