Family of 5 - separate sleeping - which resort?

My husband and I have 3 boys (9,7,5) and we don't know which resort to stay in. We stayed in POFQ back in '04 but only had the two older boys with us and we had two connecting rooms. Loved it. We'd like to have something like that again or maybe a suite? We thought about staying in a resort on the monorail line - any suggestions for us? It'd be more conducive to family peace if we had separate sleeping quarters from our boys.

Suites in the resorts on the monorail line are very expensive. All Star Music has suites that cost much less, and those that have stayed there have really liked them for the most part. I know that you could have your own bedroom there plus your own TV, while the boys are sleeping in the next room. Check out the thread for the suites, there's a lot of great info. on it.
Another option, albeit a very expensive one, is a deluxe room at the Wilderness Lodge. You would have access to the conceirge service, but you would have only one bathroom.

The fort wilderness cabins are great. They have a bunk bed and double in the bed room and a double bed that comes out of the wall in the living room. Not to mention a full kitchen, a picnic table and grill. The price is reasonable as well.

We are a family of 6 and the DVC 2 bedrooms. Depending on when you go would decide the cost, but we find it works great for us. Separate bedroom and bath for the kids makes life nice. We love the full kitchen and the washer and dryer. We always rent points and have been able to deal with really great people.

I: think you have gotten great suggestions so far! We have stayed in both the Fort Wilderness Cabins and a DVC 2 bedroom. I would recommend either. The DVC 2 bedrooms are especially nice and spacious and include a whirlpool tub in the Master Bath, as well as a washer and dryer. It was great to throw in a load of laundry here and there. Having the full kitchen helps to save money, even if it is only on breakfast and cold drinks and snacks. You also get a full living area to relax in together.
We have also had connecting rooms at the Poly and this was wonderful, although expensive. The problem is that they won't guarantee that you can get connecting rooms, they try, but it is only a request. In this scenario you would also have 2 bathrooms, which is much better than just the one bathroom of the cabins.
Whichever you decide have a great trip.

DVC - that's Disney Vacation Club? Where are they located? It'd be great to have kitchen access - I have two with food allergies and although Disney is very accomodating, it's nice to be able to do some food on our own. How do you "rent points"? We are planning to go in January. Thanks for all the help so far!

To answer one question, you can scroll down the list of forums at the DIS and look for the section about Disney Vacation club. There is a part for people who either want to rent points or have points to rent. There is also a thread about FAQ's.

I think, to get rid of what is below your name, you need to post in the last forum "Technical Support" It is a the bottom of the list of topics. They helped me last year.

Go to User CP (at the top of the page) and edit your signature. Just wipe out all the garbage you see and it will be gone.

DVC resorts are located at BCV, BWV, VWL, SSR and OKW. Saratoga Springs and Old Key West are totally DVC. Beach Club Villas, Boardwalk Villas and Villas at Wilderness Lodge are separate buildings located near the BC, WL and BW area. You can book these directly through Disney as well as using points through DVC. If you rent a reservation from a member, you will get very limited cleaning and supplies since this is a timeshare. If you book directly from Disney, it will be just like any other WDW resort, full daily cleaning and replenishment of supplies. If you rent a reservation from a member, Disney is not involved with your agreement in any manner. The member sets the price, payment terms and cancellation terms. It is not nearly as flexible as renting directly from Disney.
