Family game ideas?

Every year I buy a new game for our family to play on the holidays. The trouble is that we have all the basics, Apples to Apples, Would You Rather, Scattergories, Telestrations etc. Any suggestions for my family of college aged kids?

Taboo is very fun. You have to give clues to a common object but can't say certain words to describe it. For example, the word you want your team to say is "school bus" but the taboo words are yellow, children, seats, driver, and wheels. There is a time limit. We have a blast playing it.

What about Cards Against Humanity? Similar to Apples to Apples...but somewhat amped up; perhaps a lot more innuendo, and perhaps a bit politically incorrect.

We are getting that for our daughter-also college-aged this Christmas.

Some ideas to look into:

Ticket to Ride (2-5 players) Full honesty, this game is not my thing, but I know tons of people who love it. You draw cards to send trains to various cities.

Settlers of Catan (2-4 players, or up to 6 if you buy the expansion) Family friendly strategy game where you collect resources to build cities and roads. My family loves this one.

King of Tokyo (2-6 players) A king-of-the hill style game where everyone plays a giant monster attacking Tokyo.

The Resistance (5-10 players) Good if you have a big family that likes arguing and getting into games. Some players are secretly spies, and the resistance members try to figure out who they are.

Munchkin (3-8 players) Card game involving lots of backstabbing of other players. You're trying to reach level 10 by fighting ridiculous monsters and interfering with opponents. Lots of different themed versions to choose from (pirates, zombies, kung fu, western, etc).

Catch Phrase, Likewise, Blurt, Truth Be Told

We get a new game every year too.
Last year we got Headbanz for Adults, and had a hilarious time with it. From great grandpa to a 13 year old, we all looked ridiculous with a card on our heads and had lots of fun guessing, especially with the generation gap of popular names.... Grandma has requested we bring that one back time and again!

We don't have Telestrations, I may get that one for this year.

List a few more that you have, OP and others. Gives me ideas!

Our family favorite is Phase 10 and Apples to Apples (which you said you have). We have Cards Against Humanity which is great fun for the teens and up. Imagine If is a slightly tamer version, it is a board/card game.

Great games already suggested, but will add
Scribblish and Dixit-both fun and most-ages friendly (non-readers may need a little help on Scribblish). We LOVE Cards Against Humanity, but I won't play it with my Dad-not in a gazillion years! The thought of it is giving me heart palpitations.

Also fun is the classic Spoons.

My kids are 27, 23, and 17 and we love Cards Against Humanity, but then we are terrible, horrible people. :lmao:

It's a completely socially/politically incorrect game. :duck:
