Would my family of five (me, dh, dd 6, and twins 1) feel uncomfortable at the Yachtsman's steak house for dinner around 5:15pm? I'd really like to eat there one night, but worry it's too adult. Advice?

Not too adult at all - the only place I would say is too adult at WDW is V&A's.

It is Disney, lots of kids at all the restaraunts - enjoy! :)

Yes, it is Disney and yes there are children in all (but V & A), but Yachtsman is more adult oriented than some others. It is quieter and there is no entertainment to entertain the kids. The question really is will your little ones be able to sit quietly through an 1 1/2 - 2 hour meal and be happy? Only you can decide that. As long as they will be well behaved, they will be welcomed.
Your plan of going early is a good one, as you will see more children earlier and less as it gets later.
Enjoy!!

EVERY restaurant (except for V&A) is family friendly at 5:15. Any patron who goes to a restaurant at WDW (or anywhere, IMHO) at 5:15 should expect families with kids to be present and has no cause to complain or cast sideways glances. People who are looking for an "adult" atmosphere should make 8:00 reservations. (And to be fair, parents with young children shouldn't expect that their kids will do well dining at a fine dining establishment at 8:00 and should leave those times to the adults.) It's called peaceful coexistence as well as common sense.

Couldn't agree more with other posters. Yachtsman is one of our favorite restaurants at WDW. Do not pass up the opportunity! We took our 3 year old nephew and everything was fine. Also took him to Citricos for Christmas dinner. Lots of other kids there too.

Still not sure. We usually like to be in and out of a restaurant in about an hour with the children. If that's unrealistic at Yachtsman, perhaps I'll wait a few years. We always eat early because we keep the children on schedule while away. Do you think they can get us in and out in an hour?

On a side note. Last year at Captain's Grille, we had a ressie at 5pm. While waiting for a table, my son was cooing and laughing in the hallway, toward the back of the hotel. A man came out of the restaurant and told me that his sounds were going straight through him and ruining his meal. He asked me to keep my son quiet. My son wasn't even crying--he was being happy! Anyway, it ruined my evening. We didn't dine there that night because I felt too uncomfortable. I told the man as much and he gave me the finger. I did not consider Captain's Grille too adult and thus why I'm asking about the Steakhouse. It was a most un Disney moment.

We took our DD 11 and DS 8 there, and they loved it. We had a excellent waiter called Oscar who kept them entertained throughout, we also saw him with younger children and he was superb. It turned out to be their favourite restaurant. We realised you dont always need character dining to have fun. I would say, "Go for it":goodvibes

It sounds like he was there for a conference and not a Disney vacation. Ignore him, people like that are usually miserable wherever they are. The fact they allow those people in Disney is just wrong. They should give everyone a happiness test before theyre allowed in:)

+1.

You just have to ignore people like that. WDW is for kids and adults to enjoy and guess what, kids will sometimes scream, cry, etc - it is to be expected.
:)

I've dined at Yachtsman at least 6 times. It's a quiet restaurant and meals are paced. I would not expect to be in and out in an hour; it's really not that type of place.

I'm sorry that you had a less than happy experience before. I'd say to anyone who made that sort of comment to me that if the sounds of happy children make him so angry, he should stay far, far away from Disney World! Sounds like a mean old grump & it had more to do w/ him than you.

I think Yachtsman at 5:15 would be fine for a family, especially if that's when your kids are accustomed to eating (like a PP stated stay away from late ressies w/ kids.) If you want to get in & out quickly I'm sure if you explained to your server that you wanted finish dinner before your babies' patience ran out, s/he could help make your meal march, might help to skip appys, or if you do order them ask the server to bring your meals out as soon as they are ready. I agree that it is typically a leisurely paced meal & the servers do not want to rush you, but a good server should be able to work with you if you explain yourself & your needs. Have a great trip. :goodvibes

I need to chirp in here just to suggest that a meal at Yachtsman is one that you probably would NOT want to rush through.
Well--at least I wouldn't.
I agree with Pakey.

However--children are fine there and I suspect that if you tell your server you are in a hurry, they will no doubt speed things up.

We have res. at Yachtsmans for our next vacation & most of the kids are older. If my youngest DD & my DS (5 yrs old) are not up for a "real" dinner, I'll let them stay in room & order pizza! The rest of us LOVE a good restaurant experience!
