We have now shown all our families the WDW resorts and the option of DVC. We are often thought of as "sad" . Our love of Disney comes from a family member who after seeing Elvis in Las Vegas in the 70's came to Disneyland then WDW for their annual vacations. We have had the foresight to know we are on to a good thing for many reasons. We love the Disney thing, and have a DD of 6 year's , who has every video, and has visited the world for a month in her shorth life. Why should we be denied our pleasures. Maybe the green eyed monster has taken them over. They no not what they are missing.>>>>>>>

Do you suffer from the same envy ??????

Luckily 2 other family members own DVC so only part of our collective families think we are nuts.

DH and I are going back in Sept. (3rd trip in 11 months) for an adult only getaway...my mothers response; can't you think of somewhere else to go...Answer Yes but we don't want to..... :D

hi: this disney "thing" is contagious! we love taking "newbies" down to wdw and getting them hooked as well. my 29yo nephew went for the first time ever last may (14 of us from my side of the family)and now has asked to go back with us again; he called to see if there was a way of getting a studio for him and 2 guests added onto our november ressies. my soon to be ddil also went on that may trip, and guess where they'll be spending their honeymoon this summer? to those who think we're a bit nuts for going twice a year or going at all, here's a big raspberry for ya! to each their own, right?

Zurgswife, we must have the same mother because I got the same response after we had gone to WDW a couple of times in a row. Now she doesn't say much. I think my sister feels the same way, why go to the same place. But for us, each time is a new experience and we do it just a little bit different and now that we're DVC members I know our experiences will only get better. Maybe I'll invite them in a year or two, if they behave :)

I would love for all my friends, family and co-workers to be able to afford DVC. But if they all could; would they? I would say most of them would choose something else to spend their money on. It all boils down to choices. We figure we have given up boats, snowmobiles, 4 wheelers, a camp, or anything else people spend on "toys". But we are happy with our choice and respect the choices others make. But yes, we do get envy! :D

Not much of a problem with family members here. Most go as much as we do. We've even converted our close friends (5 families). Living 2 hours away doesn't hurt either.

We haven't told either side of the family. Don't want to deal with comments. It's our life, our kids, and our money that we work hard to earn. Both sides of the family have done very little vacationing over their life time. We would love to share the DVC experience with family, but not our first trip, maybe in the future...

I have a suspicion that RumpleMom and I share the same family. :D We bought a resale at OKW last year and have told virtually no one (apart from my SIL) that we bought. My parents would likely think it's a frivolous use of money and we should have used it to pay off the mortgage or put it into our retirement accounts. But it's our money and we choose to spend it building family memories with our kids.

We're taking my mum and dad to BWV next December for a family celebration (you know - more memories :) ) and we figure we'll have to tell them long before we go. My mother keeps wanting to know when we'll need payment for the accomodations and I keep telling her "not for a while yet". If she were to ever look at the Disney web site and check out the rack rates for a 2BR during Premier Season she'd likely have a heart attack. <IMG WIDTH="15" HEIGHT="15" SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif" alt="razz">

Our problem is that we have taken family along to OKW and Vero - they always want to tag along :)

The majority of our family members & friends think we are crazy! We haven't told very many people about DVC and we tell almost no one where we go on vacations anymore. All we heard was, "You're going back their AGAIN???" Now, we just say "we're going away for a few days . . ."

We adore Disney and would be envious of anyone that was able to go as often as we are -- WDW for Christmas 2000, WDW in March 2001, Disneyland (Grand Californian) in July 2001, WDW in August 2001 (yea!! just booked that one yesterday!!!)

To agree with an earlier post, we have no boats, snowmobiles, motorcycles, RVs or other expensive toys. We have a house that we can afford and only one child. We choose to spend our money on travel. I'm so thankful for the DIS board -- it's nice to be able to maintain contact with people as "weird" as we are! ;)

Now, if they knew how much time I spent here, that would definately give them something new to talk about!G

We bought this past March to use DVC as an excuse not to "visit" the family. I know some of you are going to think that sounds terrible, but I'll help you understand. Both sets of our parents now live in FL. We feel more comfortable with mine, DH's parents are not bad people, they just drive us nuts. DH's parents just bought a home about 30 minutes from my parents. They have already informed us that they expect us to visit often. My DH gets a limited amount of leave every year. Now that we have DVC, we have to use the points--right? We may drop in for a day or two at the parents' houses, or maybe not. They're free to visit us anytime they want, but then they're on our turf.

Most of the family thinks we're nuts for having bought into DVC. Of course, they thought we were nuts in that we go to WDW every two years. So we're all in good company. We're really looking foward to our visit DVC visit. Won't be until Spring 02, but I'm already planning.

Our family and friends think we're rich and I know they think mean thoughts sometimes when we are heading down for the THIRD or FOURTH time in a year. But then they will shell out thousands for a one week vacation. We try to tell them that after just a few years they would have paid what we've paid for a lifetime of mulitple vacations per year but they just roll their eyes and don't believe us. My sister-in-law is convinced we get a kick-back. But what it comes down to is this: We're not RICH, we're SMART! :D And we're also more than happy to take them all with us so they keep their envy quietly out of earshot.

We have shared with our family but most think that we are crazy for going there again and again. We love it!!! Even though they think we are crazy everytime we tell people we are going they ask to come along. Luckily I am jerk and say no.

Just confused as to why I keep going back and back so often. When I joined DVC, they thought I completely lost it! At least some of my family love Disney but they're not envious.

"Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the THINKS you can think up, if only you try." Dr. Seuss

my spouse's family thinks we are nuts. At least my brother has owned at OKW since '93. It is our money and time so we live and let live.

Our problem is that our families do not want anything to do with WDW. We try to explain the beautiful resort and the room size and WDW is so much more than one theme park and they refuse to listen. I would love to share with my sister and nephew, but oh well.

Not envy here, just family that wishes they could be members too!

I have a sister that is more of a Disney nut than I am, I think. But, we plan on taking her and her family every couple of years with us, because we get along so well and do the parks well together. It makes the experience that much more fun.

We haven't told anyone except a few people about our DVC.

We have been to WDW the last 3 years in a row and people don't understand and give us a hard time.

I dread telling people we are going again fot hte 4th time in a row.

I wish more people would understand and let us vacation in peace.

but we're willing to tell anyone who asks! We're newbies but are already experiencing this phenomenon - what's wrong with those people! We have one couple who go every year and don't even respond when we tell them about it, it's the weirdest thing...and neighbors who also think we're rich...ha, ha. Just smart. ;)
