Family Envy!!!!!!!

We haven't told many people about our purchase either. Too much eyebrow raising!! But, those who we have told about it respond with a bit of envy and a bit of "you're nuts!" But, they've each asked when we're taking them on vacation with us!!
We don't own a home or have children, travel is our pleasure. DVC us actually our first home, go figure. No regrets.

My parents own a timeshare near Disney(a mile away)but not on property. They take my nephews once every year or two, but really know nothing about WDW the way members of this board do. They miss more than they see(according to my sister). At least they don't think we are totally nuts like my husband's family does for purchasing DVC. DH's siblings whine about how they could never afford one trip to Disney, let alone 4-5 trips in a year like us, yet his brother makes more $$ per year than my husband, and one sister collects more in child support and alimony than anyone makes! Obviously, their priorities are different than ours! We already have plans to let his relatives tag along to BW with us in October; maybe they will catch the fever. My sister and nephew joined us in March and fell in love with OKW. My oldest daughter has been to WDW so many times this year alone(4 times)that everyone at her middle school thinks she is rich! At present, I am considering giving a confirmed ressie at OKW at the end of June to one of her teachers, who has been extremely wonderful all year, as a year-end gift.My 11-year-old decided to join the school band next school year, and the instrument she chose (oboe)is so expensive, I doubt we will be able to go back to WDW before October. I know this teacher has kids and probably could not afford to go on her salary. I think she would enjoy that more than a mug! I am not sure I would call our relatives envious...yet. I plan on having a lot of sweet vacation memories when I am older, not a lot of regrets or "I wish we would haves". God willing, I will be enjoying DVC with my grandchildren, and I think I will get a lot more pleasure out of that than a new van or a nicer house right now.

I was raised in a family that adored Disney and endeavored to make annual or bi-annual trips to WDW. In 1993, my family became DVC (OKW) members. It was a natural progression for us.

In July of 1998, my boyfriend came down to WDW with my family and me. He proposed at the top of the California Grill (overlooking Cinderella's castle).

In July of 2000, we honeymooned at the Boardwalk (on my parents points -- as a honeymoon gift), and fell in love with the resort!

We joined my parents on their annual OKW summer vacation a month later. While we were there, we couldn't resist. We bought BWV points!

I'm extremely fortunate to call both OKW and BWV my homes, and I consider myself lucky, indeed, that my husband enjoys WDW as much as I do. I'm definitely what Donald would call a "lucky duck."

But, I, too, can relate to what many of you are saying. My in-laws haven't been bitten by the "Disney bug". They prefer the "exotic" genre of travel -- Vietnam, Antartica, China... I figure I can travel the world through the EPCOT pavilions -- WDW has it all!!

I think most people envision WDW as a "Mickey Mouse" - Magic Kingdom kind of vacation. They haven't been there in so long, they have no idea of all that WDW has to offer!

I suppose it's just as well...if EVERYONE loved Disney, imagine how crowded the pools would be THEN! ;)

My experience with telling folks at work about our frequent trips to WDW for DVC are similar to those of BetseyB and Rachael, "You're going there AGAIN?" They think that I am crazy, even though they don't say it. I might have agreed with them if I had not joined DVC. :)

If we are crazy, then we have a lot of company judging from the way DVC is selling, not to mention the number of hotel rooms being built around WDW for non-members.

I have no regrets, except that maybe I don't have enough points. :D

Mind if I steal that excuse to not visit family? My mil keeps talking of moving to FL....lol. She's a nice lady, but I couldn't spend a week at her house without going crazy.

We will probably take guests every few years...my parents are first, then dh's siblings a couple years later.
