I was wondering if anyone out there has seen the new movie FAME. I wanted to take my 8 yr old daughter to see it. I am concerned with what kind of sexual content there is in the movie. Please share your experiences and opinions on the movie. And any other mom advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Here's a link to everything you need to know.

I highly recommend this website - called "screenit.com" It provides lots of info about movies, DVD etc. so parents can make informed decisions.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the link- my 5 year old (huge HSM, dancing and singing fan) really wants to see it too, but I remember the original with the 'casting couch' scene and I was concerned if it would be appropriate.

I saw the new movie FAME today and would hardly call it a family movie. I really think it contained some intense issues. There was one point where a student was told he wouldn't make it as a dancer and attempted suicide by almost losing his balance near the subway track. A friend saved him just in time. Then there was another scene where a guy tried to force himself on a girl because she wanted to become famous. Good message in each of these situations but in my opinion definitely not for elementary aged children.

I also like 'Kids in mind' for family oriented reviews.

We saw it yesterday and I really think pg-13 would have been a better rating. In addition to what has already been mentioned, there were a few scenes with drinking, some foul language and some words in a rap song (done by a drunk girl) that I would not want my young child hearing. Also, I really think the younger kids would not find it that interesting, it is aimed at an older crowd. And really it was not very good.

I saw it Friday. I don't see what would make it PG-13. It is totally PG appropriate. Nothing that I I would be concerned with an elementary-aged child seeing. Light kissing and partying, but nothing intense and barely any foul language.

At the same time, I don't think anybody younger than 13 would enjoy the movie. Very "artsy" in the way its presented.

I would not want my elementary age child hearing the drunken girl rapping about a word that rhymes with witches and something that sounds like you would use it in your garden, if you know what I mean. And the scene with the "casting couch" I also do not think was appropriate for elementary school kids. They also used the "s" 4 letter words more than just a couple of times.

I do agree though, it would not be interesting for kids younger.

I have a 12yoDD that really wants to see the movie with her friends. They love the performing arts, so that is what appeals to them about the movie.
I'm really on the fence about taking them to see it. They are aware of material in the movie and obviously know the language at this age, but still not sure if it would be appropriate. Anyone with kids this age see it? What is your opinion?

I have been vocal above about the content, but I meant it for younger kids, I saw many girls in our theater, 6-8 years old. I did take my dd, she is 13 1/2. I was not really concerned about the movie for her (except the rap, which I didn't care much for at all). The rest of it, was ok for her. She also LOVES the performing arts, and there is some great dancing and music in the movie. It was the storyline and the characters I thought were lacking, I found myself not really caring what did or didn't happen to them. The performance pieces were fantastic.
