FALSE RUMOR : Point add-on minimum going up to 100 for all resorts not just BLT!

Another poster, earlier in the thread, also had their guide tell them the same info about all resorts upping the minimum add-on when they added on to BLT. Two different guides telling the same thing. HOpe we get some clarification.

I tend to believe that if this WAS true that they would've announced it along with the increases in points for BLT and the price at AKV... Otherwise, what a HUGE blundering waste of marketing materials, paper, mailing costs, postage and time. I also think that SOMEONE would've reported receiving a mailer about it or an email with the info. by now. Word of mouth indicates rumor to me. NOW, that said, my guide only said it wasn't happening on January 15!! So that does not rule out the possibility of it happening at some other time in the future.

More power to those who have an extra $5,000 lying around....they will be able to jump into this "last chance offer". I don't know about the rest of you, but this economy is reaching into every aspect of our household. This is not a time for extravagance.

Ditto for me. No way am I willing to do it now, which means DVC probably just lost me for any future add-ons. I only need 25-35 points more to make my existing 130 work exactly as I'd like them to... 100 is simply too many. I won't pay annual dues on points I don't need and won't use.

It'll be interesting to see how it pans out, assuming these guides are correct...

i talked with my guide today, and he mentioned the 100 point min buy-in is un-true..

So, another guide voting : no min buy in.

I spoke to my guide today and he said that BLT is the only resort changing the minimum add on amount to 100 points. He didn't have any insight as to why they were doing this.

Did a quick search and didn't see a thread about this yet.

We met with our guide yesterday and she told us that as of January 15th that the minimum add-on amount for ALL resorts (not just BLT as our postcard stated) will go up to 100 points. Also the minimum buy-in for new members will go up to 200 points.

Isn't DVC shooting themselves in the foot right now with the current state of the economy by doing this???

We wanted to add on 40 points and our guide told us that if we wanted to do that we needed to act quickly or we wouldn't be able to do that thru Disney.

Is this going to affect anyone out there that is planning on adding a smaller points contract?

As several reps have now confirmed that this is a false rumor, I have to wonder if your guide was just min-informed or has a reason to push you into buying your add-on now (perhaps she's trying to up her sales by end of year?) -or- does she have some inside knowledge no one else is aware of?

I also hope we don't share the same guide - I love mine and I'd like to keep thinking she knows her stuff

I have to admit, after a couple of people posted that their guides said this is untrue, I went to the "who's your guide" list to see which guide had said this.

I do not think anyone should think that add ons of less than 100 or initial purchases of less than 200 would go away.

With the short term “bump” sales got from temporarily lowing the initial amount to 100 at AKL, it just gives DVC a tool to even out sales beyond just extra discounts. I will bet that within 6 months you will see “lower point minimums for a limited time” promotions on BLT now and others if the policy is extended.

I do think you have a point here. Why would the minimum 100 pt. add-on be just for BLT? I agree, just a precusor of things to follow. However, DVCNews has confirmed with Diane Hancock , DVC spokeswoman, that this is in fact rumor!!

Just remember, the "Contemporary Tower" being DVC was a "rumor" for a long time too.....Turned out to be the truth! I think this could be a cover up for things to come, and that's why some guides are "confused"!

According to DVCNews.com, Diane Hancock, DVC spokeswoman, is stating that this is rumor. Changes for minimum add-on just for BLT.

Although it is just a rumor for now, I could see that it would be more cost efficient for Disney to do larger contracts as an add-on minimum than allowing smaller ones. Filing fees, attorney costs, Fed Ex, etc. adds up for lots of smaller contracts as opposed to the larger profit for 100+ contracts.

OP here - I was just reporting what I was told directly face to face by my guide on Friday afternoon. Of course it is possible she is mistaken but I would never ever for one moment think she would be telling us something she didn't believe to be true just in hopes of another sale. We trust our guide and what she tells us.

I honestly think this is another one of those rumors like BLT as another poster stated and WILL be the way things will end up going at some point and most likely sooner rather than later.

I guess only time will tell.

My guide told me that when I got my add on the other day....

There is post on a different board, not a DisBoard, this morning saying that the minimum add on at ALL resorts through DVC is going to be raised to 100 points on January 15th. The poster quotes his CM. Has anyone else seen this post? Do you think there is any truth to it? No one has refuted the claim as of now, Sunday 9AM Eastern.

Well the 'reason' we were told about in increases in the min buy in was they wanted to make it so that if you wanted to use the 'outside' disney places (II soon to be RCI) that you would be able to have a week at where ever you wanted to go.. How true that is, or if it was just another CM story that gets told who knows..

Just because they work for Disney... does not mean it's ANY different then any other office.

Person 1 hears something and misunderstands and tells person 2 who tells person 3 and pretty soon the "rumor" is "fact" because "everyone knows" You see that all the time at Disney. Heck you saw it with both sides of the "will it or won't it be DVC" for BLT!

The only difference between this rumor mill and one in YOUR office is you don't post those rumors on here LOL!

I'm certainly relieved to hear that this is rumor and not fact (with the exception of BLT).
I think you may have hit the nail on the head, dianeschlicht, ... this may still come to pass in the future. We will just have to wait and see about that.
