After too many years of biting my nails i have eventually stopped :cool1: however my nails are in an appalling state so i fancy getting some false ones for now !

What are the best type to go for ?

will my nails grow underneath ?

what types require the least looking after ?

thanks :)

I really recommend gel overlays as they don't damage your nails (unlike acryllic ones) and your real nails still grow under neath, it is basically like a really thick layer of nail varnish that they apply and lasts at least 3-4 weeks then you can go back for a quick infill where they apply a bit more too the base of the nail where it has grown.

I also have the Bio Sculpture Gel and can highly recommend it. If you have never had your nails done it is ideal as it feels like they have been polished rather than having 'false' layers put on. It is also much kinder to the natural nail underneath. If you have any nail growth (even just a little) then I would suggest having a French to start with - it is amazing how they can make them look longer by adding a white tip :)

I have mine infilled every 3 to 4 weeks so if you have them done soon you will time it just right to have them done again before Xmas ;)

thanks, i will look into that :thumbsup2 How much should i expect to pay for the start up and the infills ?

Hi Natalie :goodvibes

Firstly congratulations on stopping the nail biting! Well done! :thumbsup2

Yep, gel nails are kinder than acrylics, although acrylics are stronger they do ruin your natural nail ;). Your natural nail will grow under the acrylic ones but much thinner. All fake nail extensions are not good for your nails including gels, although gels are the lesser of the evils ;)(i have acrylics, and have done for years)

Gel nails just don't cut it for me, they Never last as long as the op's, i'm just too rough on them.

My natural nails are very thin and pathetic, that's the reason i get acrylics.

Hope i havent confused you Nat :goodvibes

I pay £30 to have them done and then £15 for infills. I am quite lucky and can usually get between 6 and 8 infill sessions done before I need them soaked off and have to pay £30 again ;)

Let us know what you decide to have a go at :)
