Fall trip

At 6500 ft above sea level (which Grants, NM is), below freezing now happens at that elevation this time of year.

My corner of NM the last 4 yrs is about the same sea level and also has below freezing temps this week.

In that area, the difference between daily high and low is 35-40F easy. Its about half that where i live.

But you probably have low humidity which helps.

Cimarron in Colfax County (northeast corner of the state between Raton and Taos) at Philmont Scout Ranch (Boy Scouts High Adventure Camp). Been out there the last 4 years at times most recently this September volunteering for a week on cabin restoration/renewal at 10,000 feet elevation. Did a little side hiking as well. The aspens were changing color then.

Philmont Base Camp is outside Cimarron and is at 6,500 ft and its tallest mountain on the Ranch is at 12,441 ft.

I've never visited Tucumcari. I go to Amarillo then get off I40 and head northwest towards Clayton, NM to get to Philmont. However, in 2021 I did go through there from Amarillo to Santa Fe but I don't remember it.

I love the High Country there.

PS - what I DO remember about that area is that no matter which direction I drove (towing my popup) - north, south, east, or west - it was always INTO THE WIND! :teeth: And that was in June.

I'm at the Fort now, but have been watching the StL news. The rains and local river flooding is a seasonal thing, but usually in the spring. Pretty weird for this time of year.

Safe travels back home.
