Fall School Breaks

When researching dates for our October trip to disneyland (first family trip btw!!) I read lots about different fall school breaks (foreign to me as our kids don't have them). It seemed to me that many of the fall breaks took place after the columbus day weekend. Is this not true? I knew the beginning of October was a tad busier with Gay Days and the mocrosoft conference but I didn't find any fall school breaks for then.

The schools where I live don't have fall breaks. :confused3 I wonder if schools with fall breaks are the ones that go year round. I've never heard of it having an effect on crowds at DLR. Not like spring break anyway.

I don't think it makes much of an impact at all.

Best to avoid any Friday in October, if you don't want to deal with crowds.

I wouldn't put much concern on Fall School Breaks or Year Round schools. It is such a small percentage of the overall school age population that it can only make a small bump in crowds.

Gay Days is planned on a super slow weekend to begin with and unless you are a bull seeing more red than usual probably won't bother you.

Remember a 10 minute wait isn't long compared to 30 in the summer so when a small group comes in and raises the wait to 12 minutes, don't worry about it.

Curious if anyone knows if the Gay Day participants are planning to go to the Friday Sept 30 Halloween party or the Monday Oct 3 party? I kinda know the Fri party is going to be crowded (First party plus Friday) but now it occurs to me that the Gay Day participants may stick around for the Monday party making it crowded too. I sooo wish they'd do more days so the crowds would be reasonable....WDW was great about that, loads of date choices for Halloween and Christmas party (which I know DL doesn't even do Christmas), and the now-extinct Pirates & Princess party, but the crowds were so low it was just wonderful! Getting photos with all the special characters was possible because the lines weren't long, but from my reading about DL Halloween, you need to pick which are most important because you can't get to them all. :sad1:

FWIW, the HoJo facebook page is full of people saying that they will be there the first week in October (my week :() and they have said that they are nearly sold out. It seems that there is a number of Australians on break (if not all) and as you can see by the poll, there are other schools as well. That is why we are coming then for our AZ school break. I just don't know that there is a "perfect" week anymore so we just go when our schedule allows. Last year, we went during Fall break and the HoJo was sold out for our week and the crowds were only really bad one day out of our 5: it was the Friday of Gay Days weekend and our last day.

Our district has a fall break, as well as a lot of schools in Arizona. We do not go year round. However, we do start early in August (too hot to do anything else), so the first quarter ends before Fall Break. We have also gone to DL during our fall breaks and have noticed an increase in crowds from the past.

I'm not too overly concerned with the crowd sizes being that we have a few days there, I was just hoping more that during the week wasn't going to be extremely busy and that we would get a break from large crowds at some point. Then I started reading about fall breaks etc. and got concerned that I should have booked later in October. We are going to do the MHP on the Friday night (7th) and deal with the crowds but more for the fact we fly home the next day and I think it would be an awesome way to end an awesome week! We are planning on visiting other parks on our first weekend there because every thing I read talks about how busy it is on weekends and then spend Mon-Fri between Disneyland and California Adventure. Thanks everyone for all the information! I love these chats!:dance3:
