Fall Out Boy Shuts down USO aka Universal Drops the Ball Big-Time

Pictures are awesome!
Really hard to fathom how badly Uni dropped the ball on the concert/crowd issue. Maybe the managers in charge of crowd control are also out of touch with the following of certain bands?? Meaning old, like me:rotfl:. I do know who the band is though thanks to teens in the house, but I am still old!. glad you werent trampled!

lol I do believe you are correct as to mgmt being out of touch, they were definitely ill-prepared for the crowd. Would like to think they will learn from this and move forward to make sure the event is fun but safe for all the guests in attendance.

mac - yes, I'm selfish in wanting to hear they will be upping their game as, at this point, heck will freeze over before my better half will agree to another Mardi Gras trip. It's a great concept, they just need to work out the logistics as to capacity. Even though a park can hold X number of guests, if they aren't dispersed though-out the park (ala HHN) it can slip into chaos of this sort.

bluer - didn't notice the tv stand issue. I liked peeking thru the bamboo, felt exotic lol. Enough of a filter to leave the window sheers open and not feel as though in a fishbowl. It's been the best view I've had in years. Can't remember last time I was assigned any sort of pool view. Did have to refuse yet another assignment in bldg. 2 despite having it noted in my file.

FoodieFriend - in the above regard, I wouldn't rule out doing the concerts next year if I were you. Keep an eye on other reports posted here to see if they step up their game. Otherwise, would secure a spot (early) at concert area. Above all believe trying to do the parade and concert is not the best strategy.

Andy - lol I had a feeling you'd appreciate that pic. Lots of eye candy at Universal to go around:teeth: I wish we had signed up for a float. Torn between the skeleton float and the croc but it edged out a win when it spewed confetti! :yay:

I did come back with tons of work-free beads:joker:

Citiwalk had free admission for AP holders & onsite guests that night. Since the lines for the boats were clogged we explored a bit before heading back to hotel. Was mostly convention people vs party goers. Boat lines were clear after midnight.

now, for the fun stuff!

Love HP but this attraction is such a hoot! the following is a video, need to click it.

kong is shaping up nicely! really excited for it, the forced perspective effect is amazing!

carole - yes, the mr struggles to grasp the idea of sharing food porn lol That was a 'you're seriously asking me to put my fork down..." look

Keisha thanks for sharing your trip report. That is a cute tapeing of you and your hubby and the animated dinosaur.

Nice pics of the parade. Sorry to hear of your scarey experience after the parade leading up to the concert.
Universal needs to institute some major changes to allow for better crowd control and designated routes to allow people to move and exit if needed. They are very lucky they did not have a issue with someone being injured during the crowd surge.

Hope their response to your concerns are welcomed and they are able to accommodate you in someway as a faithful AP holder and supporter of Universal for years for your bad experience.

Food pics from Mythos look yummy. That's a fav place the grandchildren and I have lunch at.

Yeah, FOB is pretty popular! I can see where a lot of people came and the crowds got a little out of control.

more than a little. Many tweens/teens were there, and perhaps a large majority who haven't visited during the concerts in the past and weren't sure of how to avoid getting caught in the throng...us included. However, it is not unrealistic to expect a dedicated path out of a park after a high-profile event.

They should've closed off access into the concert area entirely (including the street between Mardi Gras area and the stage area) once they knew it was at capacity...and routed those trying to exit after the parade out back along the lake.

Thanks for posting, I've never seem mardi gra pics at Universal.

Sorry it was such a stressful experience I can't imagine how busy it must have been to be atrisk of closing to capacity.

I have been at T2 before
For me, it was not many rooms have the views I prefer
Think I would say about a third have the views I would enjoy

But we all like different things

We visited Universal for the Mardi Gras parade in 2011? and had a great time. Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your experience as much. :( I'd love to at least do the parade again, but not sure about the concerts!
