Fall/Fall Advantage 2009 interviews

I have had two siblings go through the program and I also asked them about this. Yes, they do ask you about other positions on the role checklist after they review our application and also how you answer some of the questions during the interview. My sister did Hospitality and she wanted to do Vacation Planner. Her recruiter asked her during the interview if she was interested in doing HOspitality.

They assured me, (now I dont know how sure they are with the company.) that your recruiter cant put you in another role you havent checkd unless you give them permission to

That's interesting! Did you sister have any hospitality experience, or did they just place her there based on the interview? I heard that hospitality was a very competitive role, I'm surprised they gave it to her if she didn't check it on her role checklist.

I think its HOspilatlity/Managment.

My sister majored in Managment, but was planning on doing a Pro Intership with disney in hospitality and wanted to do something fun for her CP. So she picked Vacation Planner and her recruiter told her it would look better if she did Hospitality so she said yes. My understanding is they usually save that role for students who are Juniors or Seniors and who are majoring is Hospitality or Managment

Great... I told them I had experience in retail, and she asked if I wanted to do Merchandise, and I said "I guess.. if it was the only thing available..."
...that sucks. I mean, I wouldn't mind Merch, I guess, but I really don't like pushing people to buy things.... that's why I would not be a good DVP... it basically says that a requirement is being able to tell a guest to upgrade when they don't want to....

I'm sure that they will try their best to put you in the role of your choice, especially if you applied early. Are you a Hospitality major, or have you had any experience? I think it would help your chances if you were, but if your interview went well, I don't think you should be worried! :thumbsup2

Haha, nope, I'm a Psych/History major. It's kinda the same thing, right? :rotfl:

And I picked a lot of other things, so hopefully I'll get something fun. I mean, just being in Disney would be awesome.

Thats about where I'm at too haha. Not going to stress about the role right now just hoping they accept me!

I know, I'm just hoping for acceptance! I am nervous about the fact that I check off Housekeeping though. I'm not sure what I will do if I get offered that role. . .

I met a few people that did housekeeping on my college program and really liked it. Even though it is hard work, you have set hours and get tips!

I had no idea that you get tips! The only reason I checked off Housekeeping was because I am open to being a resort hopper, but I just don't know if I could deal with "minimal guest contact" for the ENTIRE program. What I am saying? I just want to get accepted!

You could make fun animal towels too haha! When I was little and had stuffed animals with me at the resorts the mousekeeping would always set them up in the window too for when I returned...I'm sure it wouldn't be too bad theres probably very few people that are just slobs.

Yeah, we left tips, or little gifts, and the Mousekeeping would make us toothbrush holders from the washcloths and these little stickers that were really cute, and they would tie up our window curtains to make stuffed animal holders.

=D I almost put that down too, but I wasn't up for the limited guest interaction, just like mikelo.

How did it go?

Let us know how it went!!

Unfortunately I don't think it went very well. I'm worried that I didn't connect well with my interviewer. There was no small talk and no talk about the parks, like which is my favorite. I didn't really get any feedback from her at all, she just went on to the next question after I finished answering.

She asked me which roles I was interested in, and I had five: Full Service FB, Hospitality, Vacation Planner, BBB, and Costuming. She asked me if I would be interested in QSFB, Attractions, or Merch, and I said I'd be open to Attractions or Merch but I'd rather not do QSFB.

The only roles that I actually got questions on were Vacation Planner and Attractions. They weren't very in depth, just my favorite part of working attractions from last time, and if I've ever worked with high volumes of sales.

She did ask if I've ever worked in the food industry before, and I said no, so we didn't continue with FSFB, and she asked why I wanted to do BBB, and I said because I had worked with hair and makeup in theater in school. She didn't ask me anything about Hospitality, which is my major, but at the end I added that I've been training in hotel reservation systems and studying front desk operations. She did tell me that they were reserving the hospitality roles for people who had previous experience, so that ruled me out.

All in all, I'll be happy just to get accepted after the disaster that was my interview. Sorry for rambling...

That all seems so magical! I've never stayed in a Disney hotel. I'm glad that little things like that really touch the guests, at least if I'm in Housekeeping, I'll be able to make someone smile. =) And I think it's absolutely adorable that they call it "Mousekeeping!"

P.S., Zero, do you mind if I use that quote in your sig for something? I think it's amazing.

I'm so sorry that you don't feel like your interview went well. But you seem like such a sweet person, and you obviously care enough about the program to be here on the boards.:) I'm sure that you'll make it into the program . . .

Go for it. :thumbsup2 I put it up because I thought so too.. it always reminds me why I want to do the program whenever I feel like I'm doing the wrong thing wanting to disappear off the face of the earth for five months. It really sums up why I want to go, no matter my role. :upsidedow

(if you're doing anything cool with it, I want to see/know. I was thinking of making it into a sign or something, or painting it on my stairway up to my room =) )

You'll get in, no trouble. :) If you've done it before and liked it enough to come back, I can't see why you wouldn't get in. I had the same worries, since there weren't many "filler" questions that I was expecting. Maybe you just had so much stuff to say that they wanted to hear, there wasn't a need for those questions? Was she late in calling or anything? That might have been why she seemed a little rushed.

(I love how I was freaking out about this a week ago, but now I'm telling people not to do what I did.... but I know that everyone telling me I was good made me feel a lot better.)

Actually she was late in calling, by almost 20 minutes. That definitely could be why it seemed so rushed.

Thanks! That helped ease my nerves some. :)

My cousin was bummed when they added photopass because it wasn't available for him when he extended for this spring.

Keep me posted, please! :)

They did have photopass this spring. My sister is in the CP right now and one of her roomies is doing it. She is only 1 of 4 people accepted for photopass for the spring session of the college program. Hopefully they open more spots for this fall because that would be a dream job for me.

Thanks for the confidence boost! I'm feeling a lot better about it now than I was this afternoon.
