Fall/Fall Advantage 2008

Just finished accepting my offer. I chose Aug 25 through January 9. I was going to do earlier in August but I really didnt want to have to travel on January 2, which is when all the earlier dates have to leave. For those of you who are interested in the fall dates, the ones I had to choose from were:
august 11 Leaving Jan 2
august 13 Leaving Jan 2
august 18 Leaving Jan 2
august 25 Leaving Jan 9
september 3 leaving Jan 9

I am doing attractions. I am very excited. In my interview she didnt ask me anything really about attractions so I was a little shocked to get that assignment. I hope I get something fun. I wouldnt want a ride where you just stand there and dont get to interact with the guests.

I am still waiting to hear back from my college whether I can go or not. I met with the counselor yesterday but she didnt even know what I was talking about when I told her about the disney college program. I gave her the link to the website and asked her to check it out. I also gave her the phone number that I had to ask questions. She said she'd have to research it a bit before giving an answer. I figured I better accept the spot & hope for the best. If I wait for her I might be too late. I dont see why they wouldnt let me go, I am not asking for credit. I dont have financial aid to mess up or anything.

Are you guys doing the roommate matching thing? I might just wing it and see who I end up with. I get along with practically everyone so I think it'd be fine whoever I get.

Hey does anyone know the Fall Advantage dates?

hey guys!!!!

so as you know already i have gotten the costuming role!!! AAAaaaaaahh!! lol

but i hadn't known anything about the role itself until i had hunted and found someone who has done the costuming fall advantage...here is her response, i thought i would share it with you....

"
How many hours did I get...hmm...well when I first started I was at about 37 hours a week and two days off a week. I usually had two days off a week...interestingly enough whenever they scheduled me a 6th day I would call in or something...lol. That was for the day parade and I loved that one because the hours were 10:30am-6:30 pm. Not too early, not too late. Then I was trained on the Very Merry Christmas Parade. Loads of fun and LOADS of hours. The shifts were like...4:00pm-2:00am But it was so much fun and it wasn't like I had to get up early for classes ya know? Then I was trained on the Pirate and Princess parade. Loads of fun...I think the hours were a little longer for that...like till 3 am. That would still be 5 days a week...and thats why I called in on my 6th day because thats a crap load of hours. I also did Spectro Magic and the hours for that depended on if they did double or single parades. I was also trained on the Castle Show...(8:30am-7:30pm) I liked that because you have a lot of breaks between shows and its not really that stressfull..

So long story short there isn't really a peak season in costuming because there is always a parade or special party going on. Once you're trained on more things you get more hours. I'd say I averaged 50 hrs a week the whole time I was there. As far as pay goes, during a work day every hour over 8 is over time and I think every hour after 12 was double time. Every hour after 40 is also over time. 6th days were also over time.

If you're going to ask about 12+ hour days, yes they are possible. There are overnight rehersals that last like 14 hrs. And if you happen to work filming for the Christmas Parade its 6am-9pm AFTER a party the night before and getting off at 2am. That was exhausting..."

Awsome! That's one thing I think would be fun doing costuming, would be working the parades or special events. I had several friends who worked DDCT/Spectro, and also worked the Christmas castle show or Twas in Tomorrowland.

i want to work in that dept. sooo bad...but i do not know how to get it....the girl that i spoke to had said that it was just by luck...i want that luck!!

are you kidding me? GOSH! honestly if i get it....my life may just be complete! honestly! but can you move into that role?

There are so many places you could be put, even in one park. For example, at MK you could be in character costuming or CM costuming. Same goes for the other 3 parks.

I am soooo excited for may 19th!! and i also found somebody that is in the costuming dept! so i get to learn what this person went through!! and i will be going through it to!! OMGGgggggggggggggG and i can do parades! omg....

To all who are waiting....it is worth it!

Who all is arriving may 19th? and how about how many people arrive like each date? for fall advantage?

Hello everyone, I'm so glad there's a thread for this! Never been on a forum before, hope I don't screw anything up or do something wrong. But hi, my name's Colleen, I'm participating in the Fall Advantage Program for '08. My position is in Attractions and I'm arriving May 19th. It's great to see so many enthusiastic people. I love Disney and I'm very excited about going on the program, just a little nervous because I'm flying down alone and have to find my own way to the complexes, but oh well, I'm sure I'll figure something out. But yeah, hi everyone!:goodvibes

Hi Colleen, welcome to the DISBoards!

If you're coming into Orlando International, one of the cheapest ways to go is to check out Mears Transportation, which offers shuttles to and from the airport to Vista Way.

Best of luck to you!

Hi Tyler. Awesome, now I know at least one person. Well sort of. Costuming sounds really cool, I'd love to see all the costumes they have available. That would be such an awesome place to play dress-up! Which would totally be what I would do, I'm such a big kid.
