Fall/Fall Advantage 2008

Thank you CelticBelle - I am actually not new to the DIS, I just haven't posted in quite a long time and couldn't remember my old username or password!

I'm working in a professional position "backstage". PM me if you'd like and I'll go into detail, but I'd rather not post my exact job title/description for privacy reasons.

I work quite a bit with the College Program down here. I was actually at a presentation a few weeks ago where the Housing Operations Team told us that the units slated to open in May will be for International Students only. However, that's not to say that students on the College Program won't end up here - I believe there are plans to keep expanding Patterson Court after May, so perhaps the additional units will be open to all? This is just what they plan to do with it for the time being! (Of course, things are always changing at Disney so who really knows? It never hurts to ask about PC at check-in! )

I hope you all have a wonderful program!

*Edited to say that I cannot reply to any PMs until I reach a certain post count - not sure what that is, but when I hit it I will reply if you have sent me a PM.*

Hi all!

So I'm new to the DISboards and I have been spending the majority of the last few days reading ALL of the pages of this thread and the first one and I have SO many questions answered so thanks to the "vets" who are sharing the wealth!

I interviewed for Hospitality and I'm nervous because I heard it's very competitive:scared: I emphasized my 5 yrs of experience of front desk work so hopefully I'll do okay... :confused3

Oh well, I'm sure I would be happy with any of them but it's the one I really want!

Again, thanks you guys and it will be fun to get to know all of you! I hope to see you down there for Fall 08!

Welcome!

Good luck with hospitality- previous experience helps a lot with this particular role, so just keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best!

That's weird. No one on my team (either the recruiter, or any or the reps including me) were told that.

Wow, so how many International Students are there? I thought the CP's must out-number them by quite a bit, but now I'm wondering if my assumptions were way off. Why don't they mix them in with the CP's? At my university they mix in the international students to give them a well-rounded American experience.

I would have to say that there a lot of international students. What I keep hearing is that in recent years, the international programs have really taken off, and that a lot of the real growth with the student programs is with the international component. I'd probably say the ratio of domestic participants to internationals was 1:1, depending on the time of year.

While I don't know for certain, sometimes cultural differences are more difficult than not to get over (simply things like cuisine, and the scents associated with such, would be a good example) which I would assume is housing's tendency to clump internationals together. This is at the apartment level only- for the exception of The Commons, all existing complexes house both the domestic programs and the international programs.

There are also more practical reasons that I'm sure are at play- different programs arrive on different days, so the intentional mixing of participants is definitely made more complicated a proposition. Some of the international programs also have different arrival procedures, which would make mixed arrival days much more difficult to manage.

Hello everyone! I have a few questions in regards to the Fall program. I have a brother who is currently doing the Spring program (he went down this past January and is actually 27!). I've been seriously considering doing the WDW college program for close to a year now. Now on to my questions: When does the Fall program actually start? Am I too late to fill out an application and schedule an interview? I'm afraid that I missed my school's presentation, as it was March 19th. However, I been to a presentation in the past. Can I still get in on this? :confused3
