Fall break

When does yours fall this year? Our is usually the first week of October, but they've pushed it back to the week of 10/21. Just curious as to when everyone else has theirs and his it will be effecting crowds. I'm expecting higher than usual this year!

I'm in Middle Tennessee (Nashville area) and our Fall Break is October 7 - 11. We are taking our kids to Disney for the first time ever that week! They are 9 and 7. =0) We are picking them up from school early on Friday, Oct. 4th and heading down....and they STILL have NO clue!!!!! .......but, I'm not excited or anything ;0)

We are a fall break week of oct 7 also and heading down to disney. It is progressively getting busier during this time but nothing and I mean nothing like the spring break, summer break or thanksgiving week that I have experienced. We love it during this time .

We are in Indianapolis, IN and we get 2 weeks! We love it! We will be in Disney from the 19th-25th. I was worried about crowds as well, but maybe it will just be all of us Hoosiers Can't wait to find out!

Man, this makes me miss 'home' so much! We just moved to the Orlando area from Indy and they have few school breaks. That fall break was such a great thing!

OT...but out of curiosity, with a fall break, do you get out later...when do you start? Schools here start around Aug 20 ish and get out end of May. Fall break would be nice, though...

In Indy the kids went back to school at the end of July and got out at the end of May. It was designed to have more frequent breaks but a shorter summer break.

We started August 6 and school ends at the end of May.

I've heard of Jersey Week, but always thought it was because the schools were out the whole week. But two days??

years ago when I was in school it would be closed Wed-Fri for the convention with Wednesday being an Inservice to prepare for convention. My district would close Tuesday for voting. So we would get almost the whole week off.

This year it's closed Tuesday for Inservice abd Thursday and Friday for the convention

We started July 30th and get out May 29th or 30th. We get 2 weeks in October, 2 weeks in December/January, and 2 weeks in March/April, with 8 weeks in the summer. So far, we love it.

I live in Greenwood Indiana and our schools Center Grove just went to the balanced calendar this year and we get two weeks from from Oct 12 thru the 27th

We get Oct 17 & 18 off. That is it but we are taking the kids out and heading down to WDW on Oct 13-17 then Dream cruise on Oct 17-20.

Wow. Lots of replies! I guess I took for granted that everyone had a Fall break. I grew up up North and we never had one, but we went back to school the day after Labor Day. Here in the Chattanooga area we go back to school in August. I love love love our fall break and hope they never get rid of it. Maybe the crowds won't be so bad after all! It sounds like Tennessee people and Indiana people! I can deal with all the Hoosiers... My mom is one!!!! Lol.

My kids are in a private school in Memphis, TN and are out Friday the 18th of October through Tuesday the 22nd, so we will be at CSR then.

Our public school district is out the entire week of the 7th-11th.

I grew up here and we never had a fall break. My kids have had one every year they've been at school - they're 7th and 8th grade now.

We are in MS (desoto county) and our kids are at a catholic school there - they will be out oct 11 and 14. I had planned on WDW that week but changed for free dining the next week.

With kids starting school earlier and earlier fall break is becoming more common, unfortunately, for those of us trying to avoid crowds. Last year, the first two weeks of October, the boards were full of people complaining and shocked over the size of the crowds. I'm hoping, like last year, things will have calmed down a bit by the third week. Less schools on break, no marathons, etc. Usually schools aren't going to have a late October break then a Thanksgiving break and then winter break.

Early September is seeming to be shaping up to be the best time, crowds wise, but the heat, humidity and pop up storms are a real consideration.

Last day - May 16 (if no snow days, 13 days are added beyond this for snow makeup if needed--don't plan absences)

We have nearly no other days off - a couple professional development days for teachers and 2 half days for conferences each semester, holidays like MLK.

No Fall Break for traditional calendar schools in NC. There are only a few Year Round public schools, and they do get Fall Break- the only year round school in our county has the week of 9/29-10-5 off.

We get 1 Teacher Workday on Columbus Day, and another for Veterens' Day, then Wed-Fri of Thanksgiving week. We have taken DD to WDW during Veterns' Day week. Last year, they had Election Day off, so we wrapped a 5 day trip around the first weekend of November.

I am also a "Kentuckian" and a teacher. Your schedule practically mirrors mine! The only difference is our Christmas Break is Dec 20-Jan 1. We have a few pd days added in Aug, Sept and March. I would much, much rather we in school those three days to put a little cushion in case we have snow days.

I'm in East Tn and our fall break is 10/7-10/11. Our school system does get a full week fall break but most others in the area do not.

After posting this I went online and looked at some of the other schools systems in the area. Two of the bigger school systems have Fall Break the next week, the week of 10/14. I guess more schools are going to a fall break.

Our school started August 5 and we get out May 22. That's the last official day but they only go get their report cards that day. The last real day is May 20th. Before they starting doing the full week fall breaks we were starting a few days later and getting out as early as May 18th. Great for WDW trips.
