[GEEK ON]

Okay, I admit it. I'm a television addict. I watch about twenty hours of television a week. :happytv: Luckily, I've infected my wife, so at least we do it together.

Summer isn't bad; there are some shows worth watching (Deadwood, Brotherhood, The Closer, Saved, etc.), but there's an awful lot of filler that we just muddle through. On the bright side, it does give me an opportunity to catch up on some reading, but heck, television is easier. ;)

So, I'm looking forward to September and the return of "real" television in significant volumes. This will be our first year with HDTV, so that'll influence some of our watching, I think. I'd rather watch HDTV, and burn non-HDTV stuff onto DVD, for watching later when there basically is nothing on (like December and late May/early June).

Anyway, has anyone else checked out the television season and decided what they're going to watch, yet? Here's what I think we'll be watching:

Sunday: 9PM - Desparate Housewives, 10PM - Brothers and Sisters
Monday: 9PM - Heroes, 10PM - Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
Tuesday: 9PM - Veronica Mars, 9PM - House, 10PM - Boston Legal
Wednesday: 8PM - Bones, 8PM - Jericho, 9PM - Lost, 9PM - Criminal Minds, 10PM - The Nine, 10PM - Kidnapped
Thursday: 8PM - Survivor, 9PM - Grey's Anatomy, 10PM - Six Degrees, 10PM - ER
Cable Shows: The Wire, Weeds, Dexter

We'll record and burn onto DVD a few other shows (Sci-Fi stuff, some comedies, and Nip/Tuck -- stuff that isn't reaching us in HDTV).

What's with Wednesday night? Why all the good stuff on one night? If we didn't have a few DVRs, it would be a bit of an annoyance, especially since there simply isn't anything on Friday or Saturday nights. I guess we're just fuddy-duddies, since apparently "everyone" goes "out" Friday and Saturday nights. I couldn't imagine that: Friday night I'm utterly beat from a while week of working really hard. Saturday night I'm utterly beat from hiking all day Saturday! :)

[GEEK OFF]

HI,

Not much of a tv watcher here, but I do want to seethat new series Brothers and Sisters with Sally Field starring. Hoping for some quality televison.

I do watch Boster Legal and DH w/o fail, tho.

For Friday nightt viewing, have you watched "Monk" on cable? It's well done.

herc.

I have an aversion to Tony Shaloub, so Monk's out for me. :

We recently jumped on the HDTV bandwagon but haven't really checked out the fall lineup yet. We are big fans of the Fox shows 24 and Prison Break and look forward to seeing them in HD.

Keep in mind that Prison Break returns this month, not in September. (Of course, 24 returns in January.)

I think I may be pretty close to nailing down my television schedule for next year. Luckily I have a dual tuner in my Tivo so I can tape 2 things at once. I also have to go to a third source several times a week due to 3 shows being on at once. My upcoming schedulen (subject to change with the network's decisions):

Sunday -
8 - Amazing Race/Simpsons
8:30 - American Dad
9 - Desperate Housewives/Family Guy
9:30 - War at Home
10 - Brothers and Sisters

Monday -
8 - Prison Break/The Class
8:30 - How I Met Your Mother
9 - Heroes
10 - Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip/What About Brian

Tuesday -
8 - Gilmore Girls
9 - Veronica Mars
10 - Law & Order SVU

Wednesday
8 - Bones/America's Next Top Model/30 Rock
9 - Biggest Loser/Lost
10 - Project Runway/Top Chef

Thursday
8 - Survivor/Smallville/My Name is Earl
8:30 - The Office
9 - Grey's Anatomy/The OC/Supernatural

Right, it starts on Monday. I'm also looking forward to seeing the NFL games in HD.

Other than Studio 60, I don't think there's much new TV I'm going to watch. I'll continue to watch House, and Law & Order. I haven't gotten my TIVO yet, so it's still one show at a time for me. And once postseason baseball starts, I'll watch that, as long as the Mets survive.

will watch House, Lost, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Monk, Bones, not sure what else. thank goodness for Tivo

I've got my schedule pretty worked out:

Sunday:
8 - Amazing Race
9 - Des. Housewives
10 - Without a Trace

Monday
8 - Deal or No Deal

Tuesday I have class so I'll have to tape
9 - Dancing w/Stars and House
10 - Law & Order SVU

Wednesday
8 - Biggest Loser
9 - Dancing w/ Stars

Thursday - Class so will have to tape
8 - Survivor
9 - Grey's Anatomy
10 - 6 Degrees

I just Netflixed the pilot for Studio 60 and it's fantastic...I'll definitely be tuning into that one.

Of the new shows, Heroes also looks good. Also Friday Night Lights. Jericho seems worth investigating. Seems like ensemble dramas are on the rise, thanks to the success of Lost.

Returning shows I'll continue to watch are Lost, 24, and Veronica Mars.

It isn't just ensemble dramas, but serial dramas that are on the rise, thanks to the success of Lost -- and actually, thanks to the success of 24 on DVD. That was really the key, because networks were very much averse to serial drama four or five years ago. There was a lot of pressure put on Alias to go to a "mission of the week" format, and abandon all the backstory and story-arc stuff. This was because such shows did very very poorly in reruns and syndication, and networks couldn't make enough money on just the first run of programs. What 24 showed them was that there was a new way to make money on programs: Selling DVDs. And serial dramas lent themselves to this format, because the audience didn't have to worry about missing episodes or revolving their lives around catching the episodes when they're broadcast in order the first time.

Oh my, I can't believe I'm admitting that I watch this much television to people... Here goes!

Sunday
8:00 pm: The Simpsons/American Dad, The Amazing Race
9:00 pm: Family Guy, Cold Case
10:00 pm: Without A Trace

Monday
8:30 pm: How I Met Your Mother
9:00 pm: Two and a Half Men/Heroes

Tuesday
8:00 pm: House
9:00 pm: The Unit

Wednesday
8:00 pm: Bones
9:00 pm: Lost/Criminal Minds/The Biggest Loser 3

Thursday
8:00 pm: Ugly Betty/Survivor/My Name Is Earl
9:00 pm: CSI

Friday
8:00 pm: Ghost Whisperer

Saturday is occupied with College Football! :woohoo:

Can someone tell me which pilots of which shows are available to Netflix? I'm still on the fence about alot of the new shows.

Ok you think your bad. This is how I think my fall will start out. now some of these shows are ones that my DH watches without me and some I watch without him but I will be Tivoing them all. At least until I decide if its decent or not.

Sun: 9-Desperate Housewives
10-Without a Trace
Brothers and Sisters
Mon: 8-Prision Break
8:30 How I met...
10-CSI:Miami
What about Brian
Studio 60
Tues: 8-Dancing with the stars
9-Vernoica Mars
10-smith
Wed: 8-Bones
9-One Tree hill
Lost
10: CSI:NY
Thur: 9-Supernatural
CSI
10: ER
Fri: 9-Las Vegas
10-Numbers

It looks like alot but with multiple Tivos we can hold alot. We also are bad about saving shows and watching them when we have time. We are just now going through last seasons episodes of Lost.

I'm a TV fanatic myself... makes sense since I work in the industry! I'm mostly an information addict so I watch A LOT of CourtTV and HGTV but when it comes to network stuff I'm a reality fan. Looking forward to The Bachelor and American Idol!

The non reality shows I am looking forward include Smith with Ray Liotta. I love crime dramas with the CRIMINALS as the stars, not just the crime fighters. This sounds so interesting and I'd like to see how they manage this.

Another one I'm looking forward to is Shark, mainly because I love James Woods and because I'm interested in the fact that a defense attorney is now working for the prosecutor's office. Remember when the Defense used to be the GOOD GUY???? :lmao:

Returning shows I'm looking forward to:

Lost

New Adventures of Old Christine

and thanks to my kid and his darned DVR The Ghost Whisperer..

My problem is which ones do I tape? Here's the list so far, suggestions?

Prison Break
Veronica Mars
Supernatural
Smallville
My Name is Earl
Dancing with the Stars
House
Lost
The OC

I'm not sure I understand the question? :)

We are big tv watchers also. Thank God for 2 dvrs, both dual tuners, so we can record 4 shows at once. The kids are busy during the week so we usually end up watching on the weekends and then catching up during the summer on what we've missed. We'll be watching (or recording):

Desperate Housewives
Greys Anatomy
Without a Trace
House
Dancing with the Stars

DH also watches:

Lost
Las Vegas

The kids like:

Designed to Sell
House Hunters

One VCR and one TIVO unit so decisions have to be made on what gets taped for the short term

Oh I forgot that Ugle Bety moved to Thursdays so I want to check that one out. I also Tivo General Hospital everyday and skim through it when I get a chance.

Yes I'm a TVaholic and proud of it.
