I thought i remembered reading that when you call disney reservations, the CMs have a fake name. It is unique: there will be no more than 1 Mike, Jennifer, Ariel, etc.

I was wondering, do cast members in the park have their real first name on their namebadges??:confused3

I'm pretty sure they use their real names or whatever name they go by.

Yes the fake names are used in the reservation call center.

However, in the parks the CMs use their real names on the name tags. Unless they forget to bring their name tag for that shift, then they will use another name tag that might have a different name. CMs are always required to wear a name tag, even if the name on the tag is not their real name.

CM's in the park use their real names because you could say "mike at pirates" or "mike at the biergarten" told me something. You couldnt say "mike at the reservation center told me X" because theres no way of finding them. But if you say "Reginald told me X" than bingo

I think alot of times the names are fake names. Specifically, the fellow who booked our DVC tour was named "Ariel". No way that I believe a middle aged, middle Eastern appearing man with dark hair and a mustache is really named "Ariel", nor do I believe that is his favorite character that he wants to be. Could be his favorite princess. He must have taken that tag out of the hat, although he had it the entire 5 days we were staying at OKW that trip.

The boy's and girl's name Ariel \a-riel\ is pronounced AR-ee-el. It is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "lion of God". Biblical place name for Jerusalem. Also the scriptural name for a place in Sumeria. Literary: Shakespeare gave this name to a prankish spirit who can disappear at will in "The Tempest". The name has otherwordly connotations, and though Shakespeare's Ariel is male, it is more frequently used for girls in modern times. Israeli statesman Ariel Sharon.

Ariel has 12 variant forms: Aeriel, Aeriell, Airel, Airyel, Airyell, Arel, Ari, Arie, Ariell, Arik, Aryel and Aryell.

Baby names that sound like Ariel are Oriel and Uriel.

Ariel is a common male first name and a common surname (source: 1990 U.S. Census). Displayed below is the baby name popularity trend for the boy's name Ariel. Click here to compare Ariel with related baby names.

know what else are usually male names (in their native lands)? Sasha and Nikita to name a couple.

LOL...I thought it was a little weird when I called the other day and got a "Miley". :rotfl2:

well that i can't help with.. miley isn't even miley's real name (at least until she has it legally changed, which might have happened already for all i know)

She did. And Billy Ray wasn't that thrilled but she's officially Miley Ray Cyrus now. Destiny Hope Cyrus existed for 15 years.

The things you keep up with for your 10 year old granddaughter.

I guess its just the same as if you were to go to the local salon. None of the hair stylists use their real names. My friend started beauty school a few months ago and she had the HARDEST time finding a fake name because all the ones she wanted were already taken. I never knew all stylists had fake names until I had a ZENA cutting my hair once. I asked how that name came about and she told me it was from her favorite show!

you'd think she'd know how to spell xena then.

my favorites are all the 'sex in the city' fanatics.

The only place I've ever seen that was I think Fantastic Sam's (novelty type chain name thing). I've never had my haircut by someone with a fake name. It's not the norm to take fake names in most places.

But, I do understand the fake name thing for Disney reservations because they can easily identify who you actually talked to. When you're face to face with someone it's about being able to identify the CM's by name.

Normally Cast Members use their real name or nickname on the nametags. If there is a question or concern, it is fairly easy to locate the person who you are referring to.

For example, in the entire Front Gate crew at Typhoon Lagoon (which is Guest Reations, Ticket Sales, and Turnstile Greeters) the only duplication of names is a Dave and a David. And I've never noticed a time when both were on duty at the same time. So if someone said "Last Thursday around 10am at the Typhoon gate Dave told me..." It would be fairly easy to get the correct person.

Disney Reservation Centers, which includes Central Reservations, Disney Dining Reservation, Walt Disney Travel Company, and the Passholder Services line (and maybe others I don't know about) are open 16 hours a day, seven dayas a week. There are at least five locations (Orlando, Tampa, Kansas City, Houuston and Salt Lake City) and some of them have over 100 people on duty at a time. At DRC each person is given a "stage name" and it is set so no two are on duty at the same time. So if you called and said: "Last Thursday around 10am I called Dining and Dave told me..." they could fairly quickly narrow down to one person.

Last week on the Jungle Cruise, our captain had a name tag that said something - say Jennifer, but a few times during the spiel she referred to herself in the 3rd person and said something else - like Amy!

I asked her about it when exiting and she said, yes, she had forgotten her name tag that day and borrowed someone else's.

Most of the CMs use their real names. However, if they forget or lose their namebadge, they will wear another CMs badge. I have a picture somewhere of a male CM wearing a namebadge with the name Patsy. Very funny.

The foreign CPs usually pick a name since their real names are often hard to pronounce. It is not unusual to see a CM with a name like Nemo or Echo. They can pick whatever they like as long as it is not offensive.

I called to arrange dining reservations one day and the CM states that her name was Eva Braun. I asked her at least two times during the conversation what her name was, and both times she repeated Eva Braun. I'm sure she thought that I was asking her name so much because I was displeased with the service, but it was that the name was sticking out to me for some reason. When I got off the phone, I asked DH who Eva Braun is, and he reminded me that it was Hiltler's wife... I've often wondered if that CM knew that!:scared1:

echo is also a legitimate name. greek in origin. the US census considers echo to be a common female first name (although not in the top 1000). nemo on the other hand is very rare, is of latin origin (latin for 'nobody')

if people are going to choose their own fake names to sound american, they're going to pick something more common place. the guys who are from saudi arabia and neighboring countries by me go by names like mike and charlie. i work with a native from china (although he did get US citizenship) named fred. there's no doubt his name isn't originally fred.

i once spoke to a 'roy' on tech support for something when it was obvious he wasn't in this country (didn't even attempt to hide his accent either).

I was at University in the North of England and one of my classmates was a chinese girl who had Doris as her middle name. It was common practice at one time to give children a western type middle name and her dad had seen movies with Doris Day and thought that she was lovely

I should remind you that the former Prime Minister of Israel was Ariel Sharon.

When I was in middle school there was a boy in another class whose name was Ariel. I thought it was weird at the time, but now not so much. I can imagine he was teased alot after The Little Mermaid came out( woudl have been 7 yrs old), and forever after that. Poor kid.
