Fairytale Package with AP or Park Hoppers Idea

Check this out! I did this this morning and it worked! Thanks to Mary at mousesavers.com for this idea for use with APs. I tweaked it for my own park hopper situation.

My husband and I already had two four day hopper passes that we purchased five years ago. So, I reserved my Fairytale Package for 8 nights for ONE PERSON to obtain the UPH for me for the length of stay. Then my husband will use our two four day hopper passes to get into the parks! If we really want to go to Pleasure Island, Disney Quest, or a water park (not likely), then we can pay just for him. I think we saved about $300 over saying two people are in the room and need UPH passes. I know we will use up all of our park hopper days this way, but I'd rather use them up and save money now than ten years from now. When we get to the hotel we can tell the clerk that two people will be in the room to get a second key. Other than that, it doesn't matter - the room price is the same. This is completely legitimate. The CM I spoke with new understood what I was doing and was fine with it.

Cool, huh!

Good for you! I'm surprised that worked, though. Usually, they insist that everyone in the party purchase the UPH tickets.

I am also surprised. I wanted to purchase the silver plan on our last trip but did not want it for my 6yo dd and they would not do it. I couldn't justify the cost of the childs plan, so we passed. I was trying to think of a way around it, but was too cjhicken to leave her name off the resservation.

Hmmm, but on another thread they said the price was based on double occupancy- so they just charge double for a single adult on the FTP.
Is that not the case??

Great that this worked! Thanks for the info and idea!

AliciaS,
I called to make a reservation using the same idea, that one adult and one child would use the Fairytale package and the other adult and child would use left over 4 dayPH+'s and the CM told me that is not possible. I politely thanked him and called back and asked another CM and she said the same thing. I was hoping to be able to do this because we have leftover tickets from our previous trip but it doesn't look like we'll be able to. I'm not trying to jinx you but I would doublecheck so you're not stuck paying more at a later date. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

When I called to reserve, I inquired about upgrading the UMP to an Annual Pass. We would pay any difference between the price of 7 night UMPs and the APs. It would actually be more money is Disney's pocket on several counts. The difference in the price of the tickets and the fact that we would make at 2 - 3 other trips to disney before our pass expired. You would think with the extra room ressies, food, soveniers... Also, since we would probably only get the regular AP we would then pay for water park admission and DQ - a must for DSs. CM said no go. I am beginning to become concerned because I made the ressie over a week ago & have yet to get my confirmatin. My deposit will be due shortly.

THe CM was correct. UPH's purchased as part of a package like FT or DM cannot be upgraded. If you purchased the UPH's separate of a package, then you can upgrade them to AP's.

I think the reason the OP got it, was because she said only one person was in the room. I don't think I would welcome the surprise, when going to check in, to find out I owe the FT price on the second person (which will prob happen when you go for that second key). I think the only way there wouldn't be a charge, is if you omit mentioning there is a second person in the room entirely, which wouldn't be very truthful. Then your vacation is spent wondering if the maid has one person written on her notes, and knows there are two. So you have to wonder if you will get "caught". Not worth it to me. No matter what the CM tells you on the phone, she isn't going to be at that desk when two of you show up, and only one pays.

BibbidyBobbidyBoo,

If you call Disney reservatons, they will break down the costs for you. For the FT package, they charge you for the room (regular price) for 4 nights and I think they told me it was $266.00 per adult or jr for the UPH passes. So, if you told them it would just be 1 adult, they would only charge you for the 1 UPH. If you showed up with 2 adults and 2 children and they DIDN'T allow you to use your own separate tickets, I expect they would charge you the price of the additional passes. But, if Mary at Mousesavers said they DO allow it (I didn't see what she actually wrote on this topic), I would tend to believe it. Mary has some pretty good tips and advice.

What is the logic behind this policy? Not to be argumentative, but Disney will make out because we currently have FT for Oct. We would return with the family again in Dec for MVMCP, DH & I would return for the Flower & Garden Show in the Spring, then out of guilt for not taking the boys on the FGS trip we'd probably return during Summer 2004, which brings us back to Oct when our school district has one week where the kids only attend for 3 half-day sessions. If we had APs we would seriously consider another trip to get one final use out of our APs before they expire. We always stay on-site, buy food, soveniers, DQ admission... So instead of getting us for one trip, they would get us for 4 or 5 trips within one year. If we don't have APs we arel not likely to return within the year. WDW comes out way ahead by allowing us to upgrade.

I scoured Mary's website and could not find any information about using the FT package with existing park hoppers. I would really like this to work for us, but I also don't want to be surprised when we check in. I guess we'll just stick with what we have and keep the park hoppers for a future trip.

mom2boys,
I tend to agree with you on the upgrade point of view-(maybe because I would like to do the same thing :) ). I think it is a win-win situation for Disney to do the upgrade. Maybe as the summer wears on, they will change the rules?
