Fairy GodMAW Grants Princess Bella's WISH! Update 12/2 - One more sleep til Disney!

Awee look how excited they were! What cute stuff too, I love the skirts on them Precious!! I am getting so excited so i know you all are too.:dance3:

Wow, the girls made out didnt they! The designers are amazing and the girls look beautiful in their skirts. Bella's outfit is so cute. I wish my hubby could sew like that. :)

Wow, Tom is one talented dad. How sweet! It's so fun to watch the girls opening the packages!

Gosh! Everything is so adorable, and aren't folks on the DIS so generous?!
Kudos to everyone helping out this family to make their trip extra special!!

I'm really praying that indeed you can find some answers to this feeding dilemma!! How hard. Finding an answer may really help find just the right solution.

Keep us posted, Stafani!
Soooooo very generous. Not only those that have sent Big Give items but also DISers who have contributed tips, hints, and other information and, best of all, support!
We are still praying as well! I do promise a health update but we are still waiting on meds (had to be special ordered) and orders from her doc. What is really frustrating is that they are only treating the symptoms instead of trying to get to the root of the problem.

What an awesome update! It really was like Christmas! What a joy to follow along and see the joy! Thanks for posting!
Thanks! I enjoy watching them open the packages as well. Only, it's sometimes hard not to grab them and rip em all open myself!

It looked like Christmas indeed!!!!!!

The Big Give folks are very talented! You guys are awesome!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I'm so happy for your girls. You can see the pure joy and excitement in their faces! I just know you will have the best trip ever!:goodvibes

Amazing folks those Big Givers! Talent galore! Just 9 more days until the BEST TRIP EVER! Am I jinxing it by calling it that already?

How awesome is that? Everything is so cute..there are some truly talented people lurking about the boards! So glad an admission wasn't mentioned at the Dr's yesterday...
And it appears that some are not even on the DIS boards, they were recruited by DISers who are Big Give members! How awesome is that! And :dance3: for no mention of admission, but :sad1: because the doc wasn't the knight in shining armor I was hoping for.

Somehow I unsubscribed and I've missed a ton of updates! All caught up now. I'm so excited for the girls with all their Big Give stuff! How exciting! You are getting so close to your trip. I hope you have as magical time as R and I did!!
Oh no! I'm so glad you are back! I am enjoying your TR now that you've returned. I hope I don't miss too much while I'm gone!
Awee look how excited they were! What cute stuff too, I love the skirts on them Precious!! I am getting so excited so i know you all are too.:dance3:
soooooooo excited! In fact, Kennedy happily announced today that there will only be 3 more school days until Disney! They are off tomorrow thru the weekend, so next Mon, Tues, and Wed will be it!

Wow, the girls made out didnt they! The designers are amazing and the girls look beautiful in their skirts. Bella's outfit is so cute. I wish my hubby could sew like that. :)
I wish my hubby could sew his own #$*@ buttons back on. I can only imagine him attempting something as incredible as Tom's creation! Tom's darling DD, Leigh, must be the best dressed kid in her entire city!

Wow, Tom is one talented dad. How sweet! It's so fun to watch the girls opening the packages!
I wish I had a video camera too - some of the comments are just precious. Like Kennedy's desire to paddleball during the flight! :rotfl2:

OH no! This tells me that you didn't get a diagnosis. Either way, I do hope that what they are doing for her will work!!

OH no! This tells me that you didn't get a diagnosis. Either way, I do hope that what they are doing for her will work!!

No, no diagnosis. I spoke with Bella's doctor for nearly an hour. It was probably one of the longest conversations I've had with one of her physicians. I went over Bella's health history with him, (her multiple surgeries, hospitalizations, tube feeding, feeding programs, etc.). Then I told him about the issues that had brought us to see him.

Everytime Bella eats, her blood glucose spikes to 200-250, causing her to feel very ill. She has nausea, headaches, sweatiness, cramping, and her heart races. She also becomes lethargic and will often take a nap until her blood glucose is back to normal, which can take an hour or so. It's difficult to watch.

The main cause of this is something called rapid gastric emptying aka dumping syndrome. When Bella was very little (8 months,) she had a surgery to stop her from vomiting constantly and prevent aspiration. Part of that surgery was opening the muscle at the end of the stomach and sewing open. Now, when she eats, the unprocessed food goes directly into the intestines and Bella's blood glucose spikes as it tries to compensate for this sudden large amount of undigested food in the intestines.

Her reaction to food is very similar to a diabetic. Except, that she ISN'T diabetic as all testing for that has been negative. Unfortunately, all traditional attempts to treat her rapid gastric emptying have failed. That is why we were referred to endocrine.

The doctor listened and asked a few questions. He remarked on several occasions as to how "unusual" Bella's symptoms and reactions to treatment are. NOT what I was hoping to hear.

Anyway, the endocrinologist seems just as confounded by Bella as the gastrointerologist was. His recommendation is to start treating Bella with medications that are for diabetics. The first one we will try is called metformen. It's purpose is to stimulate the body to correct it's own blood sugar levels and bring them back to normal. If it works, then GREAT! However, we are still just masking the problem instead of finding out why it is occurring. Additionally, the metformen has several unpleasant side effects that, if we see them occur in Bella, we must immediately stop the medication or it will become detrimental to her overall health.

There is a second medication we could try, but it also has negative side effects. A third alternative would involve injections daily. Ugh!

We have also been advised to check Bella's blood glucose at two meals a day, 3 times per meal (before, 15 minutes after, and 2 hours after). This means we must poke her tiny little fingers 6 times a day. It pains me to think of it!

Anyway, I hate to be such a downer and go on an on about medical stuff. I really was hoping for an answer from this doctor and all I got was more questions.

Oh yea, and the kicker is, I went to make a 3 month follow up and the receptionist began by saying "The only date he has available until August is . . . ." WHAT? The ONLY date? How can this guy possibly be booked until August already? So of course, I grabbed that only appointment in February. I'm certain we will be talking to him before that however!

Because our Wish Trip includes 3 day Disney park hoppers, we will need to split one day between 2 Disney parks. Kind of by default (MK is a full day guaranteed for us and we are going to CP at Epcot) the day is going to be split between Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. So here are the plans for our 6th day of Bella's Make A Wish Trip!

Park of the day:
AM – Animal Kingdom PM – Hollywood Studios
Hours: AK 9AM-6PM HS 9AM-8PM
Crowd Level: 4 Best Park: AK and MK Worst Park: EP

Short Schedule:
8:00AM – Breakfast at GKTW
8:30AM – Nickelodeon Character photos GKTW Castle of Miracles
9:00AM – Animal Kingdom rope drop
12:00PM – Lunch at AK
2:00PM – Hollywood Studios
7:30PM – Family Fun Night GKTW Safari Theater
8:30PM – Dinner at GKTW

Our morning will be spent at Animal Kingdom. It looks like we likely won't make it to the rope drop at Animal Kingdom, but I put it on there as a "just in case" if the girls don't want to meet the Nickelodeon characters. However, the plan for now is to see the Nick characters and then head over to AK. Bella is a HUGE fan of Dora and I hope she is there!

While at Animal Kingdom, there are several attractions that we REALLY want to do:
Finding Nemo - the musical - there is a 10:15 show
Everest (over and over and over again!)
Kilimanjaro Safari
It's Tough to be a Bug
Triceratop Spin
Kali River Rapids

There are also a couple of "maybes" that we will do if time permits:
Festival of the Lion King (12:00 show)
Dinosaur
BoneYard
Flights of Wonder (1:00 show, but I could easily skip this show, we have seen it before)
Character Meets

Because we will only be at AK until 2ish, we will once again miss the Jamin Jungle Parade. In our 3 trips, we have yet to see this! Would it be worth sticking around to see it? My DDs definitely prefer HS but we could always spend the extra time on Everest until the parade began.

We will also be eating lunch at AK. Suggestions for a good CS? We didn't make reservations but would consider a TS if we could walk in without a ressie.

The second half of our day will be spent at Hollywood Studios. I plan to leave a AK at around 2pm. This will give us 5-6 hours at AK and about 5-6 (depending on the drive) at HS.

We will probably need to grab a snack shortly after we arrive at HS. It may very well be ice cream or popcorn - something easy. Or maybe even McDonald's French Fries - seriously? can we not go anywhere without eating McDonalds?

Our main objective at DHS is the Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights. But since those don't turn on until dusk, we will find plenty of things to do with our time until then.

There are several shows that I would like to catch. I have never seen Beauty and the Beast, although the girls have. We have never seen Lights! Motors! Action so we definitely need to see that one.

Here are the showtimes I am hoping to get to:
Block Party Bash - 3:00
Lights! Motors! Action! - 4:10
HSM3 - 4:35 (we will likely miss the beginning of this but hope to catch part of the end. there are no later shows :( )
Playhouse Disney - 5:00 (one adult will probably take Bella to this while DD10, DD8, and other adults go on ToT and RnRC)
Beauty and the Beast - 5:45
American Idol - are the kids going to enjoy this? There are shows at 4,5,6,and 7.
Indiana Jones - we have seen this many times, and the shows we could see are at 4:15 and 5:30 so I think we'll just skip it.

Inbetween the shows, I hope to hit some of the rides. I definitely want to go on The Great Movie Ride, just because we have not done it before. We will go on TSM as many times as they'll let us. Voyage of the Little Mermaid is high on the list. If we have extra time, we will see Muppets 3D and play on the Honey I shrunk the kids playground.

I want to find the Mary Poppins Umbrella. Definitely a photo op!

Also is there a lighting ceremony for the Osborne Lights? Where and when is it?

DHS closes at 8 on this evening. There is a Family Fun Night event at GKTW
that evening that starts at 7:30. Are there any Wish Families that have gone to this event? What is it, and would it be worth leaving DHS early to attend?

WOW!! Great job! May I ask where you got the information regarding show times??? I've looked and looked and haven't been able to find that. Like you, there are shows that we really want to get to see and I'd love to have a tentative idea of where to be when before we get there.

I made reservations for the Rainforest in AK. I know they are run-of-the-mill, in almost every major mall around, but we have never been (we don't do restaurants much) and the atmosphere looks like alot of fun for the kids. We will definately stay for the JJJP but I'm splitting the day at AK with Epcot (I could stay at Epcot for days but I think the kids are not going to be as enthralled and would rather have a full day at Hollywood Studios). It's so hard to choose between all this great stuff isn't it??????

What's the deal with Mary Poppins' umbrella???????

I'll be interested in hearing about Family Fun Night to0 as I'm considering doing something off-site for that evening. If it's a not-to-be-missed event, however, I may need to reconsider.

Keep up the good work......I'll be anxiously awaiting more (I've been slacking in the PTR department but alot's been going on........I'll get to updating after Turkey Day GOBBLE GOBBLE)

I'm sorry to hear they couldn't give you some better news about Bella. I hope the medication will give her some kind of relief. :flower3:

In AK there are a few good CS places- depending on what you guys are in the mood to eat. If you are in the mood for BBQ, Flame Tree BBQ is really good. They have a great pulled pork sandwich- they also have ribs and chicken. Pizzafari has OK pizza, sandwich, and caesar salad. We tried Yak & Yeti CS in October and were surprised how good it was. I'm about to review it in my TR.

While the parade in AK is cute, I think you can miss it. Plus you would have to hang out in AK till 3:45- and that will mess up your DHS time. :)

So glad that Bella like her outfit! I was hoping that the fit and length were fine!
Sorry that you didn't get the answers that you were looking for!

You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Have a magical time in the greatest place on Earth!

You're so on top of it, I love it. Our tentative plan is to do the same thing, split a day with AK & DHS, so I'll be looking forward to seeing how it works for you guys. I was also considering doing Rainforest that day, we don't have them around here at all and I think Piper would like it. A lot of TRs I've read have mentioned Flame Tree and Yak & Yeti CS as being pretty good. Are you tired of making decisions yet? lol

Today is . . . . . .

WISH PARTY DAY!!!!
:cheer2: :dance3: :yay: :cool1:    :cool1: :yay: :dance3: :cheer2:
party::jumping1::simba: :stitch: :goofy: :sulley: :tigger: :donald::mickeyjum:dogdance:

It will be an afternoon filled with bowling, pizza, and popcorn (for Bella, because she can't have pizza and loves popcorn) and the party starts in just 3 hours! Our Wish Granter has already clued me into a few of the goodies she has in store for Bella. There are 5 little friends of Bella's who will be joining us for bowling and a handful of family friends as well. It's going to be a blast!!

We will also receive our tickets, expense check, and some other paperwork. I'm looking forward to completing some pages in my itinerary (filling in confirmation numbers, flight numbers, exact times, etc). Just 9 more days of packing and planning until we're off to Disney!

Bella looks adorable in Tom's gorgeous creation!! I can't wait to see what comes to go with Jeanne's cute Christmas skirts!

Day 6 sounds all planned out - you have to see the Festival of the Lion King! It was my favorite part of AK.

HUGE hugs on all of your medical stuff!

They stopped serving McD's french fries in the park. Something about needing to be health concious? But I like the lemon slushes! I think my favorite is at AK, though. :)

Hi there! I will answer you here and hopefully the answer will help anyone who reads! :goodvibes

This website has the Times Guides for all of the parks...but it could change before you get there.... It is update weekly...but the schedule can change...especially in the holidays. You will have to verify show times when you get to the park...but it should give you a relative idea. :)

Sorry the endo appointment didn't go as well as you had hoped. I have similar endo issues. Our first one was so awful we had to change doctors. Our last visit was in October and I immediately scheduled our next appointment for April 2010! If I waited I would't be able to get in. Why do they ask you to come back at a time when there are no appointments? I hate that!

Have a GREAT wish party today! It sounds like lots of fun! I'll be watching for photos!

Rainforest is awesome, especially for first timers! I think it's a great choice.

If all things were normal, we'd split Epcot and AK as well. But since we're going to the Candlelight processional, Epcot gets a full day this trip!

Apparently there is an umbrella in DHS that it rains when you stand under it and hold the handle, I think! I haven't ever seen it before.

There is more planning stuff coming up, but I'm hoping to post Wish Party pictures tonight and another BIG GIVE!

I'm sorry to hear they couldn't give you some better news about Bella. I hope the medication will give her some kind of relief. :flower3:

We finally (2 days later) got the medication and, unfortunately, the first dose yielded no results. We will try for a few more days though, just in case.

Yak and Yeti is starting to intrigue me. I need to read your review of it!

I feel reassured that we can miss the AK parade and the world will not end. Thanks!

So glad that Bella like her outfit! I was hoping that the fit and length were fine!
Sorry that you didn't get the answers that you were looking for!

You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

You are amazing Tom! Thank you so much! The fit and length are perfect and she is so excited to wear it! And thank you for your prayers.

Rainforest is great, especially for kids. But with us already splitting the parks that day, I don't really want to spend time sitting down for a meal. I'm not tired yet from making decisions, just plain tired :rotfl:
Bella looks adorable in Tom's gorgeous creation!! I can't wait to see what comes to go with Jeanne's cute Christmas skirts!

Day 6 sounds all planned out - you have to see the Festival of the Lion King! It was my favorite part of AK.
Me too! FotLK is high on our list, but we have seen it before and I think we will be pressed for time. Finding Nemo is our all time favorite show so we must see that one. I'm hoping that we do have time for FotLK though!
HUGE hugs on all of your medical stuff!

I have seen it once...and it was not something I would skip DHS for.

Thanks for the hugs. I should know better than to expect Children's Hospital to be as magical as Disney. :rotfl2: I think we will definitely plan to stay til close at DHS.

Sorry the endo appointment didn't go as well as you had hoped. I have similar endo issues. Our first one was so awful we had to change doctors. Our endo was not too bad to be honest, it's just that he didn't have many answers. I'll see how the next few weeks go with the new meds. Are all endocrinologists so hard to get an appointment with???

The Wish party was great and we had an awesome time!

So sorry Bella is having to go through so much with eating. When Alyssa just quit growing and then fell off of the chart, it was a hard decision to get the feeding tube but we knew it was necessary. It is so frustrating not getting the answers you need. I hope the medicine works, but I totally get what you mean by needing the reason not just masking the problem.

I dealing with a lot ogf that lately myself with Alyssa's Seizure activity.

Cant wait to see pics from the send off and Im so excited for your trip!

Stefani, I take Metformin, and no, I am not diabetic, or even pre-diabetic. I don't know if I can help but feel free to pm me if you have non-urgent questions but can't wait for the doc.

So sorry Bella is having to go through so much with eating. When Alyssa just quit growing and then fell off of the chart, it was a hard decision to get the feeding tube but we knew it was necessary.

Chrissi - can I ask you how old Alyssa was when her growth stopped? Phoebe was at the top of the charts for height and 75 for weight all the way from infancy until about two years ago (age 6). It slowed down but she is still growing. I asked two of her docs about it recently and they weren't too concerned. Just said to keep an eye on it. The nutritionist said it is normal for girls to slow down during prepuberty. I'm thinking, if all girls slow down, she shouldn't be dropping on the girls' chart! I don't want to wait until it's too late.

Stefani - Glad to hear the party went well. Can't wait for details and pics!!!

Hooray for the party! I can't wait to hear all about it and see the pics..you guys are so close now . I get you on the "tired" thing..try to get some rest before you leave if you can..I know, I know..too much to do, but try to fit it in for you! We're keeping Bella and your fam in our prayers, hopefully you'll get an answer sooner rather than later.
