Has anyone walked from the Fairmont Pacific Rim to the terminal with their luggage? How long did it take?

It's about 8 min walk...

-how much luggage do you have?
-BTW... luggage is NOT dropped off at the front door (that's for the Pan Pacific), you need to take your luggage deep into the cruise ship terminal.

We are probably going to have total of 3 suitcases for the 3 of us. This reservation will be for after the cruise. Pre-cruise we are staying at the Auberge Vancouver Hotel for a night and then moving over to the Pan Pacific for 2 nights. Do you know how far of a walk it would be from the Auberge to the Pan Pacific?

5 min walk on Google Maps (400 meters)

With rolling luggage, it's doable on foot.

We stayed pre Alaska cruise at a Marriott on the other side of town but rented our car from Hertz at the Fairmont Pacific Rim in the basement parking garage. When we returned the car and walked to the terminal, it took us less then 10 minutes and most of the time was probably waiting for the walk signal on the one street you have to cross or walking out of the parking garage from the Hertz office. We came out of the parking garage and you cannot miss the terminal, its right across the street.

If the prices are similar, I would recommend the Pan Pacific simply because it's right above the cruise terminal. The Fairmont isn't a bad choice either though, the world's best gelato is right next door!

We are staying at the Pan Pacific for two days before the cruise. We were lucky to find the Auberge the day we arrive, because the Pan Pacific, Fairmont Pacific and Fairmont Waterfront are booked. The day we get back the Pan Pacific and Fairmont Waterfront are CRAZY expensive. It might have something to do with the women's world cup is happening then.

That's great that you are you staying at the Pan Pacific before the cruise. As mentioned, it's a pretty short walk to the Fairmont so wheeling your luggage should not be an issue.

Remember to sign up for their free customer loyalty program. You will be able to get BMW bikes for free (but I think you should tip bell services for helping) to ride around Stanley park. I heard they also had a BMW car to give short rides, but we didn't use that service so I don't know for sure.

We did the Fairmont Waterfront and they'll collect your bags from the room and take them to the ship for you (so will the Pan Pacific).

Downtown Vancouver in that area is extremely walkable, so 3 suitcases on rollers for 3 people who are not mobility-challenged should not be a problem for the 2.5 blocks it takes you to get to the pacific rim.

Coming out of the cruise ship, you walk all the way up the ramp the cars come down (on the sidewalk), avoiding all the taxi/bus operators jabbering at you. There is a bank of elevators at the base of the ramp as well that take you up to the pan pacific, where you can walk straight out without the ramp.

I went to make ressies for Pan Pacific and Fairmont Waterfront and they are both booked as a few others as well for next July.. I decided on Hampton Inn downtown Vancouver. I hope that this is close to the terminal. I don't mind paying for transportation, but, I would love it if they provide shuttle service..

Make sure you have umbrellas (I assume you would for the cruise anyway). While it is a short walk, you could get very wet if it decides to rain.

Seems that these things would be easy enough to look up.

If it's the one on 111 Robson, that's near Chinatown (not a great tourist destination) and BC Place and the train station. It's not easily walkable to most of the tourist destinations. I've never chosen to stay on that side of downtown Vancouver, personally.

Their site says "Our hotel includes the following amenities, facilities, and value added features… Complimentary drop off shuttle bus service to anywhere in Downtown Vancouver first come first serve" BUT I would call to see if that means you can take your bags on. It usually doesn't. That said, there's a park and cruise deal that includes transfers to the port, but that is a special booking.

There are many many hotels in downtown Vancouver. Many are much closer to Canada Place than this hotel.

If it is wet....
  • short cab ride for 3 blocks is doable where your luggage is taken into cruise ship terminal drop off
  • there is an underground passage that connects the West Convention Centre (across from Pacific Rim) to the East Convention Centre where the cruise ship terminal can be found. Then again, I can't remember how friendly it is to transporting heavy luggage.

I would not call 111 Robson "near Chinatown". Especially when walking heavy luggage to the terminal. But yes it is near BC Place Stadium. That area of Robson is an OK place to stay. It is really popular with the sports fans and is close to the new trendy Yaletown area. I would cab it if there is not hotel shuttle.

You can reach anywhere in Downtown Vancouver for $10. Cruise boarding time has light traffic around the core.

Is this if you stay at Pan Pacific, Fairmont Pacific Rim or Fairmont Waterfront?

We stayed at the Fairmont Pacific Rim (loved it) and used the bikes. I checked the website, and the Waterfront does as well:

Are you considering cycling the boasted Stanley Park Seawall? We offer complimentary use of our bicycles for Fairmont President Club Members on a first come, first serve basis. Please contact the Concierge.

We paid DCL about $8/bag to have them take our bags from the hotel to the port, so we could wander around in the morning and go to the terminal when we wanted. It was the first time we had "ground transportation" with no vehicle! Very easy, well worth it.

Pan pacific is very nice as well, literally ontop of the cruise terminal. We called the bellman, he took our bags right to the ship, the next time we saw them was in our room. Very convenient. Steam works for dinner in gas town was great too!
