If the prices are similar, I would recommend the Pan Pacific simply because it's right above the cruise terminal. The Fairmont isn't a bad choice either though, the world's best gelato is right next door!

How far from your cruise day you booked the Pan pacific. My cruise is on July 20, 2015 and I cant find a reservation.

mid-June is still shoulder season.... July is tougher for availability...

Look at what's available for sub-$200 suggestion on that weekend. Some mentioned the budget DaysInn which is

Otherwise, I send my guests to the airport hotels. Free airport pickup and a $35 cab ride to the cruise ship terminal in 35 minutes.

The suggested Richmond airport hotels have lots of nearby restaurants. Do you like Chinese? The better restaurants are around these hotels. If there is 8 or more of you.... order a King Crab to celebrate your arrival.

I tried to make reservations for either Fairmonts or Pan Pacific for late August and all hotels are showing as sold out as well. I had no idea that I would need to book more than a year prior to the trip. Needless to say I am very disappointed. I ended up booking the Marriott Pinnacle so I hope that it's an okay place to stay. Wondering what my chances are for booking the Pan Pacific or Fairmont...

Check again in a few months. I found Pan Pacific said sold out a year or so before. I checked again a while later and there were many rooms open. I just stayed there a week ago. It could be a major event and rooms are really sold out but go ahead and check again in a few weeks. Good luck. We loved Pan Pacific.

Did you book direct with the hotel?

Yes, we booked directly through the hotel. We couldn't get a room the day we arrive, because Pan Pacific is booked. So, we are jumping from hotel to hotel. The price for Fairmont Waterfront, Fairmont Pacific Rim and Pan Pacific went up to the high $400-$600 for a city room within days. I am just wondering if it has anything to do with the women's world cup that is going on during that time.

I ended up booking the Marriott Pinnacle so I hope that it's an okay place to stay.

Check out the Expedia reviews.... generally positive. It is a premium downtown hotel so cost a little more.
