I think it would be FAIREST, although not necessarily agreeable to all, for DVC to allot # of discounts based on POINTS.

For example, 1 discount per 30 points per year. This would allow any member to buy an AP for any guest they invite. Even if the guest stays at the Econolodge in St Cloud and is a 4th cousin twice removed by marriage who they never saw before.

As long as the number of discounts would accomodate the number of guests that the member's points would cover for accomodations (on average) for a year.

Sorry but have to disagree here. There are members who have well over 2000 points, some over 3000 or more, who are basically in the business of renting out points. Allowing one annual pass for every 30 points owned would then say a renter with 3000 points can get 100 annual passes for the people he/she rents to. Boy couldn't they use that as an incentive to rent out their points. I doubt very much this is what DVC or Disney had in mind.

I agree it needs to be like the Florida residents AP. If you live in Florida you get a Fl resident discount. You don't get it for your 'friends' or family who live outside of Florida.

The pass is for Members, not for friends, extended family, or renters. Seems pretty fair to me.

Remember, they could easily have made it only available for those whose name is actually on the deed. That might be even more fair? To give it to the full household seems a logical choice as it's the Member's household, just like it could be a Florida Resident's household.

If there's extended family or friends, they can become members themselves and then be eligible.

We have family in Florida and stay with them quite often, especially for holidays. When we are staying with them are we Florida residents for the week? No. In turn we invite them to stay with us at DVC. Does that make them members the week they stay?

Just my $0.02

I have to agree with Caskbill, DVC need to have a way of controlling this benefit because of the people that seem to be using DVC as a business. Restricting all member to people in their immediate household by requiring ID works for me. The only area where this may present a problem is if people on the same contract do not reside together (brother/sister/parents all owning together)...but as long as they all have a blue member card in their name, then there really should not be a problem.

Our family is one of the families that have four members in different households. We all have a member card so will that mean all our families will be able to get the discount? I hope so!

When I spoke with my guide you must be on the deed or living at the address with someone on the idea. Therefor, associate members (names that can make ressies but do not get cards) are not eligible for the discount.

I think if I were Disney I would elimiante ALL perks for DVC members. There would be one huge SCREAM, but that would be it.

There is NO way to make everyone happy and when they do give DVC members something there are always people SCREAMING "I am not happy, it doesn't work for me"

So the fair thing is to get what you paid for, a room at Disney!

(NOTE: The above is not the way I feel, but you have to admit that based on the complaints you see here you can imagine it crosses the minds of the powers at Disney! I figure a perk is just that and if I can take advantage that is great and if not, no big deal!)

Hey Carol, stop making sense. ;)

so then who's eligible? bc they are giving you the right to eight passes

I can't see any reference on the DVC website to the no. of passes that any member will be entitled to claim. It just says immediate family living at the same address.

Or am I missing something.

BTW I think its a great perk even though it will not be of immediate benefit to myself just now.

I beleive that this issue was one that DVC put a lot of thought, time and energy into. It could have gone a lot of ways. The truth is it could have only been to those people on the actual deed. In my case, just my husband and myself so my two childern would not have been able to get the passes. I know in some cases just the wife or husband is on the deed and so the spouse and the rest of the family would not get a discounted pass. I think DVC gave us a wonderful perk and they put a lot of thought in a fair and reasonable way to do it. Sure I would love to get AP discounted passes for others in my family or other friends, but I am extremely happy to be able to get them for just my immediate family.

I am also an associate member on my moms membership, but do not have a blue card as an associate member and of course I don't live at her house.

P.S. How many phone calls do you think MS will get asking how to add people to thier deed? People will start calculating the cost of adding a person to the deed vs. the discount they will receive on their annual pass. Also, on future purchases are people going to add like 10 people to their deeds? ;)

P.S.S. As mentioned on other threads, people that have childern away at college should qualify and of course there are other circumstances as well. Personally I beleive and I think I have seen Dean mention, this will get a bit further clarification before it actually gets implemented.

You can get up to eight passes for people that qualify. If you don't have eight people that qualify according to the rules, you get a maximum of the number of people who qualify--very simple. They are just saying: all DVC members get to buy eight annual passes at a discount now.

And keep in mind that adding people to your deed requires that you go through ROFR, though Disney has typically been waiving this as I understand. You have to go through a closing and recording process just like the original purchase.

Also, there is more to consider than simply the initial expense of changing deeds. It could very well complicate things in the future. For instance, if you add your adult children to your deed, and something happens to you, you can not will your entire DVC interest to your surviving spouse since your children would now also be legal owners of the timeshare.

Changing the deed for the sake of a park discount is not a very smart thing to do in a lot of families.

True - letting a discount alter your estate planning isn't a sound idea. In our case, though, we have only one child, and as SSR owners, we'd always planned on adding him to the deed. Perhaps now there's an incentive to do it sooner as opposed to later....

Actually, it is just Mom and I, and we've been listed as co-owners since day 1. But I wanted to point out that changing the deed to take advantage of a discount is not a sound option for many, many families before folks rush out to list their kids as owners.

I am wondering, if these discounted annual passes must be used by the person who is the DVC member, or if they only must be purchased by the person who is the DVC member.
I wonder if I can purchase one of these pass vouchers each year (even the years I don’t visit) and then use them for family members when I do visit. (I admit to not having read through the rules yet myself).

I have only one name on my deed, and am the only immediate family member in my household (which means that no DVC member qualifies for fewer passes then I do).
I am visiting in December, and was considering an annual pass , but am still not certain it is worth it for me.

Life is not fair, and I have been struggling, for much of my life to just accept this. But I still sometimes get frustrated feelings when someone else gets more then me, and I don’t think that they deserve more then me. Even when I get something that is completely extra, beyond what I am necessarily entitled to or have earned, I can still feel frustration if someone else gets more.

I have some children living with me. ( They are not my own children, and their mom lives with me also, but I am often buying them things or doing things for them.) As hard as I try to make things fair, I have realized that there is nothing I can do that makes every child feel that I am being fair.
Sometimes I just tell them to stop complaining, and other times I have the patience to listen to them explain why they think that something is not fair.

This is a good point; wouldn't want a DIS DVCer to call us MS to make a reservation and find that Sissy or Junior used up all of this year's AND next year's points - or sold the contract!

I also added on points to share with family, but does that mean I cant share with family if they don't get an AP discount?
Are you entitled to a discount because your cousin works at Wal-Mart? I have family that works for American Airlines, I don't get flight benefits. Same as Health benefits, I cant insure my MIL.

How is this benefit going to impact the way your family travels with you? You can still invite family, if you choose to pay for their admission media, there are still several options. Not as good as the DVC discount, but they are not DVC members.

I for one, having seen the ugly fights that happen when someone passes away, and would never add anyone to our contract that I have no intention of leaving it to in the first place. Not suggesting anyone do this, but I know of people who have done similar type things in the past not fully realizing the repercussions.

We cant expect DVC to extend this benefit to everyone.

be grateful for what you have!!!

there will always be someone with more. If you base your life on trying to get a level playing field - you are going to be unhappy.

be happy with what you have.

even worst- in my case a few years ago I almost put my brother on my contracts as a co-owner. I didn't and I am very happy I didn't. He declare bankrupty and if I had put him as co-owner (despite him not paying a penny on it) - the courts would have gotten at least half of it.

I am so glad that I didn't do that!!!
