DH and I will be driving from St. Louis to WDW in September for our vacation! DH just threw out the idea of leaving one day early and doing some sightseeing along the way (we always drive to WDW, but usually just drive - we just stop to eat, use the restroom and on the way down we stop one night to sleep).

DH loves factory/manufacturing tours or really any behind the scenes tours where he can see how things are put together/work. For example, last year we took at tour of the Ford Rouge plant in Detroit and we both LOVED IT - it was so very very interesting. Does anyone know of any stops along the way from St. Louis to WDW that would offer a great tour? (Route goes through southern IL, western KY, central to eastern-ish TN, straight down the middle of GA and then into FL).

Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated!

I would google the major cities/towns you will be either driving thru or nearby and then check their Chamber of Commerce website for manufacturing facilities or factory tours.

The Corvette plant around the Bowling Green, KY area...it was free and our entire party enjoyed it. My son was picked to start a brand new one...the first time the motor was started and they let him run through an equipment check using the turn signals, wipers, horn etc. He grinned from ear to ear all day and I think my husband was slightly jealous! :rotfl2:
