We were up bright and early today for our last day at Universal, I still had to be dragged from the bed though, the coffee helped.
We get the 8.40 shuttle to Universal and head to Islands of Adventure, first stop is Spiderman, which I have never been on before as I thought it would be claustraphobic, I decide to take the plunge and really enjoy it, I had imagined that it would be enclosed like Back To the Future, I would definately ride it again. Today is yet another cold one, and we both decide that being cold and wet is not really want we want out of the day, so we decide to give the water rides a miss, there are people who look drenched and freezing so we are glad we decided to miss them. We take a turn on Jurassic Park, and the little boy next to Ian was absoultely terrified, he kept trying to grab Ians hand and he was literally in tears, felt sorry for him until we got to the end, and he insisted to his mother that he wanted to go again !!!
Ian rides Duelling Dragons, I admit that I wimped out of this one, he really enjoyed it. We have a wander and the park is very nicely decorated.
Over a glass of wine at the Ye Old Oak Tree bar place, we decide that whilst the park is nice, it doesn't really float our boat, and is probably our least favourite, and decide to head to the Hard Rock for lunch. I make a huge decision on the way out and decide that to make Ians day I will wait for it, go on The Hulk with him, the queue was about 35 minutes and for the whole time I was bricking it, the conversation went something like, "What will it feel like when I'm upside down, will I be sick" etc etc ... "Will I fall out" was another one. I loved, loved, loved it, what a blast, I am now a Coaster Junkie
Onto Hard Rock where Ian gets the Cobb Salad and I have a burger, both very nice, and washed down with a margarita for me and a bloody mary for Ian, which was vile but he seemed to enjoy it, the food was very good, we make a stop at the store where Ian gets a t shirt and a Chrissie pressie for me.
We head back to the hotel, where we have a relax before the big night ahead.
The 6.30 shuttle bus and we are on our way to CityWalk, (passport in hand)!! First stop is Pat O Briens where I get I get some sort of cocktail (I can't remember what), and Ian has The Hurricane, both are very scrummy, the cocktails are around $6 which is about the going rate, so we shocked when the waiter tells us to just go to the store to get the glasses boxed, we decide that this is a bargain, and get another two cocktails, well you have to take advantage of good value, I don't know what either of these were called, but they were both good, and mine was pretty squirly colours.
We get our four glasses boxed and head off to the purpose of the evening Margaritaville of course. No nonsense tonight, we get a lovely young barman, who serves us no problem at all, we start off with a margarita each, and I have died and gone to heaven, the music is great, the volcano is spewing and I am a happy bunny. The barman offers to make us his special Margarita, it would be rude to say no, it was gorgeous but packed a punch
We head into the restaurant to get some food to soak up the booze, we share the Conch Fritters, Ian gets the Cheeseburger in Paradise and I have a Chicken Sandwich, both excellent, we sit and watch the band and even have a little dance !!
We visit the store and Ian gets himself a silk Margaritaville shirt out of his Christmas money, I swear he is morphing into Matthew Churchill, it is a very nice shirt. We get a Jimmy Buffet CD, and some margarita mix. On the way back to the shuttle bus we stop at Pat O Briens for a bottle of hurricane mix and another bottle of margarita mix.
The 1.00am bus takes us back to the hotel, and disaster strikes, Ians wallet is gone, it has our room keys and some of Ians Christmas money, plus about $60 dollars in it, not a great deal but enough that we decide to head back to CityWalk and try and see if it has been handed in. We walk, yes you heard right, walk back to CityWalk and head straight to Pat O Briens store which was the last place we had it, it wasn't there, but they call security, to see if it has been handed in, and they tell us if it has, it won't be at Lost and Found until tomorrow. We decide to call it a day and cut our losses, but on the way back I decide to retrace our steps to the bus stop just in case, we couldn't believe it when the wallet is on the bench we had been sat on, all the money and passes were still inside, there must have been lots of very honest people about that night
To celebrate our good fortune, we jump in a taxi and are soon back at the hotel, $5 with tip, bargain !!
So what could have been a bad end to a lovely day turned out ok, we have a beer and glass of wine and off to bed, home to Saratoga tomorrow ....
