I've BEEN looking on FB to figure it out, but I am lost.

I want to add a friend (a good friend of my mom) but I really don't want her to see everything (pretty much EVERYTHING) I post. (I'm only considering adding her because she would like to see baby pictures when the time comes, and it is easier than email, since I post for family.)

Is there a way to change settings so a friend only sees ONE album and absolutely nothing else?

This is your best solution...

Go to the album you want her to see and at the very bottom of the page in small print it will say "share this album with anyone by sending them this public link"

What smitch425 suggested is the best approach for what is essentially a surgical allocation of access.

Generally, I am conscious of everything I post and so most things I post are directed to specific groups. Things I post to Everyone or to all Friends are things that I deliberately intend to be posted that broadly, without reservation, and in recognition that that would include anyone who I eventually add as a friend. That helps me avoid such concerns.

I would just send her the email or album link. If you do not want your mom's friend on your FB, don't add her in the first place.

I don't really think so. You can block a person from posting on your wall, but you will still both be able to see one another's posts. You can also block specific people from seeing specific posts, but you would have to do that with every single post you didn't want her to see. I'll gladly tell you how to do that if you don't know, but it seems like way too much hassle to me. You can also post individual posts so that only those people who select CAN see them, but that's just as big a hassle for your situation.

I tend to agree that you are better off not to add her at all, and just email her pictures.

OH wait, okay try this. See if you can get someone to volunteer to be your guinea pig on this one and find out if this works properly. Go to your status, type in whatever. Then before you post it, click on the lock symbol. One of your dropdown choices will be Customize. One of your choices in the box will be "Hide this from." Put your guinea pig's name in there. Then click the box that says "make this my default setting" and post it. Check with your guinea pig and find out if they can see it or not. Then post something else without going through that, to find out if it works as default or not. If it does, then I guess you can add her and do that so that she won't see any posts. On the few posts or albums you want her to see, you'd have to go in and remove that. Then you'd have to remember to put it back. Again, you might want to test this with a willing participant, so you can make sure you can let them see what you want them to, and they don't end up seeing things you don't want them to.

I still think email would be easier.

Click on Custom
Click on blue link for "Edit privacy settings for existing photo albums and videos."
Under each album click on the drop down and pick "custom" this allows you to see who can see it and who to hide this album from.


When posting a status on FB just under the dialogue box there is a little blue arrow (and lock if you block people) that you can click on to blokc people you do not want to see your status this one time, or you can make it a default setting.
