I need to make a very basic Facebook account. To be honest, I never wanted one for its intended purpose. - I hate drama, and don't really have the bandwidth right now to invest in reconnecting old friendships.

But I've gotten frustrated on occasion with not being able to see the page of a business or community organization because I didn't have an account. And now there is one I actually have to get information from, so I can't put it off any longer.

How do I make an account, but make it basically invisible?

(If it matters because they are somehow connected, I do have an Instagram account - but it loads automatically on my phone, and I don't even remember the password.)

Use a first name or nickname
Use a middle name or variation
Like Sally Jo or Lily Beth
Leave off your real last name. Lots of teachers do this for privacy reasons. Use the middle or second name as your listed last name.
Don't connect with friends etc if you don't want to, just follow the pages you like. Don't add your phone #.

I have a FB account but rarely use it. Make sure to go into the profile/privacy settings after you setup your account and choose the MOST restrictive options. I agree with not using your last name so it makes it harder for random people you don't know to find you. You can always use the first initial of your last name if 'last name' doesn't allow an empty field (set mine up long ago so I don't recall what is mandatory). DO NOT give them your phone #, they have ZERO need for it and it has nothing to do with 'extra security'. The next time there is a data breach, you just handed more private info over to someone who shouldn't have it.

A few years ago FB made a change where I can now see 'friends of friends' posts even if I have NO idea who they are. Did NOT use to work that way. If you only plan to use it to read stuff people post on their site, I would also avoid posting anything on your site. FB was never setup to be a chat room or forum discussion site. It is still formatted primarily for an individual to have their own site to post things or have other people make comments.
