Am I the only one seeing this? It was posted by Dis Moderators on July 4th.

IMPORTANT!! - Disney Cruise Meet threads

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The DIS has been home to Cruise Meets for many, many years now.

We recognize that there are other options for hosting these discussions, but have begun to receive complaints about the way some of these options have been managed - excluding some members, private forums, argument about who is "in-charge", and even meet discussions hosted by people not even on the cruise.

Threads for Disney Cruise Meets (including Fish Extender programs) are welcome here just as they have been since DCL began back in July, 1998.

The DIS continues to be committed to providing a place where Disney Cruise discussions of all types are welcome and encouraged. We have also decided to no longer provide opportunity to solicit DIS members for other forums/social media.

We now request that links to Cruise Meet discussions other than on the DIS no longer be posted and that those who have posted such links edit their posts to remove them.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

I've also linked it on the Aug. 2015 Alaska Member Cruise. I'm surprised there hasn't been more reaction from people on the meet threads.

It doesn't really affect me personally since I have never been a Facebook member, although I am in complete agreement with it.

I guess I'm surprised that this notice seems to have gone unenforced. I'm participating in several pending cruise threads and see mention of FB groups regularly.

On a slightly different track; Over on Cruise Critic there is an outright ban on FB group mentions.

Agreed. :thumbsup2

Makes sense.

Keep in mind, they aren't preventing you from setting up a Facebook group. You just can't advertise it here. Makes sense since they cannot moderate it.

Have not even heard chatter about this. Agree that on the 3 trips we have booked, all three meet threads have multiple posts about their FB group. While I am sure some don't intend to hijack the DIS group but certainly end up doing just that.

I am not a FBer so appreciate it if DIS refocuses on what the meet thread was, a group discussion and meet of the DIS Board. Look forward to more DIS meet participation. :thumbsup2

I wish DIS would enforce this. Anybody new on the meet thread for an upcoming cruise is directed to FB and there is no communication on DIS. I was blocked from joining my cruises FB page so I am entirely out of the loop, but I am going on a DC so who needs new friends when you got the old ones waiting;) I need my MM::MickeyMo

I would've put FB in the title. I suspect folks ignore even looking at the thread because the title is soooo generic.

I think I'll link the post in our meet board,--- for future posts..

I'm actually glad. I liked when the people planning meets and the FE were actually sailing on my ship.

Breaking links will not force people back, its not going to instantly bring all the cruise meets threads back to life here.

Working "together" with rules it will work.

Banning will drive it underground and make it worse. There is more chance of multiple threads starting and fragmenting cruisers.

It's a ridiculous to ban facebook because a few very vocal members don't like it. The DIS gained quite a few members going the other direction. We had people find the DIS because of the FB cruise meet group.

Let's try to get more people here by forbidding them to use other sites. I remember friends who used to try to tell me who I could and could not associate with. They didn't stay friends long.

Poor decision, DIS, poor decision.

The only fragmenting I foresee is on the facebook end. We had a person try to start a second meet here for our May 2013 Member Cruise and the moderator merged them when asked to do so.

Yes thats the point without a link it will cause more problems, cruisers will still do it just fragment into different groups.

I prefer Disboards discussions to FB, just MO. I am frustrated when I see a meet start here, then someone says "join us on FB."

Oh well, we will see how it plays out.

How can you be sure someone on here is actually sailing on your cruise? Neither site requires a copy of the cruise contract.

Sorry to hear this. I see it as another restriction in a world now full of them with more and more every day!

Everyone is welcome to join Facebook to belong to a cruise (or any other group) just as they are to join the DIS here. If it's someone's choice not to join Facebook then they can continue to come to the DIS and form FE groups or whatever they like. More may be in one group than the other at any given time but that's the way the cookie crumbles. No big deal. Enjoy and be a part of whichever one you're are in.

Each one endorsing and highlighting the helpfulness of the other can only benefit everyone!

So how are we to know now if there is a Facebook group for a sailing if it can't be posted??

I don't have a DCL cruise booked now but I still come here. I have made great friends using FB for other cruises. Bans are stupid.

Hmmmmmm, seems it is being enforced somewhat. The link to our cruises FB page no longer works if you click on it in a DIS post. While I use both the DIS and FB, FB works better for me. Why? Because the DIS app for Ipad and Iphone is so riduculously slow, when it even works, which is rare these days, so FB is just easier to use unless I'm at home on my computer.
