Face mask while at table

Thank you for the address. I emailed, thanking them for their mask policy and concern for safety, despite what the politicians say.

If masks were optional, I would not go right now.

I came back from a fabulous trip in Jan. I felt very, very safe. We wore out masks. We did not eat inside. While seated and enjoying our meal... if we were not actively eating/drinking, we put out masks back on. Not a big issue. And I have been able to communicate with my kids just fine.... still know how, even with the masks.
Bahaha, that's fantastic. Thanks for the idea, I just did the same.

If someone disapproves of the new rule there are so many ways to voice a concern without getting yourself in trouble. Show it with your pocketbook, show it by sending an email or giving a call.

I agree this is frustrating and I do not agree with it. Where I live we're trying to do away with masks as soon as possible... some politicians are starting to talk about summer. We were also the last ones to have a mask mandate.

When we go to Disney we will follow rules when told to, but I will def find a way to express my concern without getting myself in trouble.

Also, since the new rule is "actively" eating... I can sit and eat a roll/cookie/etc and drink my beverage for quite some time :)

The fact that, one year later, many folks assume everyone is running around spreading covid is silly. To assume the public at large are all carriers and need to keep you safe is not science. As a reference, my kids have been in school since August wuth no mask mandates
The district has 40,000, plus students. Maybe 10% are still digital. We have under 100 active cases. 40,000 students, 86 cases. The data doesn't support the constant fear.

The virus has killed over 500,000 Americans. I know at least two people at my company that were killed by it. Two people on my immediate team of nine (who are both young and healthy) were hospitalized for days from it it was so bad. Experience varies and data shows it is way worse than a normal flu, was more contagious.

You can respect the virus without "living in fear" and if you can't do the absolutely minimum to help protect others then I don't know what else to say

Except that number is grossly overcounted. From the retooling of the pcr test which has a high false positive rate to the current absence of any seasonal flu (which does kill tens of thousands annually as does pneumonua) to Dr Birx statement in March 2020 on how they are counting the death rate. We don't know the true rate of those who died from this virus, but it's far less than the number spouted by the media.

Yeah, it drives my spouse nuts at trivia night - if I order my one beverage, I don't need another in 2 hours...I am a slow sipper. And it's not just restaurants, I also take 90 minutes to drink my 9.5oz + .5 oz oat milk coffee in the morning regularly (and then I move to my water/tea, so I constantly sip something all day slowly, but regularly) - I think it's a way to relax b/c in the military I had to do 3 8oz waters plus eat in 8 minutes (thank you field training). So, it's like I subconsciously rebel with my beverages now:)...

Staying home and not going to a restaurant in a YEAR is the definition of fear. And sorry but the replies to this thread one year into this are madness. The ego investment in people who’ve given up their freedom for a year because they are “doing the right thing” is so great that when any suggestion is made that the sacrifice was not necessary its met with a visceral defense mechanism response. And yes I do have a ton of practical experience with this disease because of my job so please don’t use your google search as a replacement for my medical degree..

my man...as a first responder who’s been in and out of hospitals on the front line too I love getting safety lectures from google warriors.

As I mentioned previously (and didn't get a response even though I was pretty much insulted), I have a Doctorate in a medical profession and work in Covid units in the hospital every day. But I always love when people assume incorrectly.

(I know there are others in this thread, but wrong assumptions don't get you very far)

Oh I just sent my email, thanks. Explained how my non park days will be spent offsite where masks aren't required. My money will be coming with me offsite too!

We have a similarly sized school district, with mask mandates, and there are only 44 active cases currently between students and administrators/teachers. Each of my childrens schools has only 1 student each and no workers sick at the moment, and that's the way it's been since August, only the high schools have more and the highest number is 5 students at one school...that's it. The reason we have to treat everyone as if they have it is because you can spread it before you have symptoms. Someone could be sitting at a table feeling perfectly fine, spreading the virus without knowing it, and then get sick a day or two later. I work in healthcare on the administrative side, that is the reality of the virus, take precautions just in case always not just when you feel threatened. For example: patient facing workers take precautions when dealing with patient's blood, or anything that came in contact with it, as if they all have HIV/AIDs. Does everyone they come in contact with have HIV/AIDs? No, but you don't know when they might. It's the same with any pathogen, it's the same with this virus.

We have a trip coming up in a little less than 2 weeks. I am optimistic after reading that we can remove once we have our drinks. I feel like we are constantly revolving with all this-
I always play by the rules, so I will do what Disney wants- does not mean I love it.
You gotta love my teen, I told her about what I read.
She said “ Mom, remember at the beginning when you would get groceries, you’d sanitize them before bringing them in? We know now that wasn’t quite necessary”

This idea of fear being the reason people take precautions is bizarre. Different people have different levels of risk tolerance and different situations. Maybe someone has a pre-existing condition, perhaps they have a relative they’re trying to protect, or maybe they’re just not comfortable. It’s condescending to call their concerns fear.

it doesn’t make one brave not to follow the COVID prevention protocols, it’s makes one selfish.
I’m so tired of the word “selfish” being thrown around like this. Using your logic, I guess everyone who doesn’t wear 2 masks into the parks is selfish, right? I mean, if we really want to protect CMs, 2 masks is better than one. But the truth is, other people are only selfish if they’re not operating at YOUR level of protocol. Everyone has that line of what they consider reasonable... this new rule just happens to cross that line for many people and that doesn’t make them selfish anymore than it would make you selfish when your line gets crossed.

It is "selfish" to not want to abide by Disney's rules, whether or not anyone agrees. They are a private company and can implement any rule at any time. If someone doesn't like they don't have to go. It is selfish to get all bent out of shape about a rule that protects people, especially CM's.

So if Disney said that starting tomorrow every guest has to wear 2 masks, to better protect cast members, you’d be cool with that right?

Not who you quoted, but absolutely for me. I'd be cool if they went the other direction as well, it may limit what I would do, but it wouldn't stop me from going.

They have already been doing this. Last month at HS, we got drinks at the little bar outside Brown Derby and then sat at one of the tables outside (more than 6 feet away from the other tables). Outside. As we were sipping our drinks, a security guard came over to tell us and the other tables that we literally have to put our masks on between sips. LOL. (Did I say we were sitting at a socially distanced table, outside, drinking our overpriced drinks???)
This is why I won't be going back until masks are no longer required, and I don't care how long I have to wait.
