face cream - Why do you like yours?

I like Mary Kay. I have tried the Oil of Olay and I have no idea what is in it but I break out every time and I don't normally break out. It must be something in there that I am allergic to that isn't in other products.

I recently bought the Mary Kay BAR facial cleanser and I swear this thing will last over a year.....I have had it for 3 months and it barely looks like I have used it! I LOVE it!

The only thing I don't like about MK is that you have to buy it from a rep. They tend to hound you to buy more of the product and I just don't spend a lot on make up as I don't wear it all that much. And I don't care about my hands feeling like satin for $22 either! :rolleyes1

But, overall it is a good product line.

I love the Mary Kay cleanser and LOVE Satin Hands...it's a must in the winter, DH and DD use it as well! I like the Day and Night Solutions but they are pricey!
I also Oil Of Olay Regenerist...but it is not budget.
Comsumer Reports did a comparision of different products and most of the really pricey ones did no better.
I plan on trying Cindy Crawford's line, because my sister uses it and her skin really looks good since switching (she works for a plastic surgeon and everyone thinks she got a peel which she didn't...yet).

I used to use oil of olay but it didn't work with my skin. My mom has always used if and loves it. I now use skintelligence and I love it. It's not that expensive and I only need to buy it 2x a year because you only need a small amount. You can find it on shopthehub dot net if you want to check it out.

I'm pretty lucky in that I'm dark skinned so I've got a lot of natural spf protection. I've also never been a sunbathers so, so far no wrinkles at 50. During the summer I love Oil of Olay regenerist line but during the winter my skin is dry so I use a product with Shea butter in it.
Great natural moisturizers

I loved the way Mary Kay looked but after using it for a bit I got huge painful zits I had never gotten before. I stopped using it and it went away.

Otherwise I liked the results, so I was kinda bummed that I had to stop using it.

Right now I am using a cream with vitamin c I got at Walgreens called Avelox.

I am allerigic to many face creams with perfumes in them and I can't use oil of Olay. I used Neutrigina for sensitive skin for many years but have switched to Hope in a Jar from Philosophy with SPF in it. It has been working pretty well on my skin. You can find it on Ebay at a discount or through the Sephora site at JcPenney. I use the Clinique creams and cleaners sometimes too. They work with most skin types and can be found at the major department stores.

I have really grown to love the Avon products - Anew line Rejuvenate is good for 30 something skin - I like it but for me - 40 something I prefer Reversalist - need a little more help:rotfl:. Avon also has a cheaper line called solutions - I like the maximum moisture in that one. Clinique facial soap mild is awesome too for cleansing - inexpensive and lasts forever!

Obviously I use Mary Kay. But over the counter (stuff at the drug store) products have come a long way. Use what you like, just use something. Look for something that absorbs into your skin and doesn't just stay on top like an oil slick. Also, noncomedigenic(sp? - won't clog pores) and doesn't cause redness, that's a sign you may be allergic to an ingredient. Give any new product 2 weeks before you make a decision about it...unless you are breaking out. I saw someone said she uses olive oil...I have a friend who slathers her whole body in Crisco every night and her skin looks great...seriously, she does.

I had the weirdest exprience in trying to find the right face cream. I tried lots of things, from cheaper to expensive, hypoallergenic, "all natural", yadda yadda, but ultimately they all made my face break out. Same thing with just about every foundation made. But I couldn't go without moisturizer b/c the older I get, especially with our hard water, my skin was getting dryer and flakier...and of course, more wrinkles. But goodness, I was getting more pimples than I ever had as a teenager. Frustrating! Finally, on here, someone suggested Eucerin cream for dry skin (body). I went out and bought it for DH and I, and was a little surprised that it was so thick and hard to spread. But it was the first thing that really did the trick for our hands/legs, etc. So one day I just decided to try it on my face...really thought I'd break out like crazy with it being so thick. But oh my goodness, my skin hasn't looked this good in years! Big reduction in pimples, less redness and splotches, no flakiness, reduction in visibility of lines. I also suspect that having to slowly massage it into my face (since it's so thick and you don't want to be too vigorous with your facial skin), that it's helping with blood flow to my face.

You do have to learn the right amount so your face doesn't end up with a sheen on it, and to give it some rest time before you apply your makeup, but so far I'm in love!

Oh yeah, and oddly, my face has started looking younger since I've been doing yoga 2-3x a week. Super-super beginner stuff, but I think all that hanging my head down is rejuvenating the blood vessels ;) Just a theory...

I've heard of that but I don't think I could stand the smell.

There are some olive oils that don't have as strong of a smell as EVOO (lol rachel ray)... and they work just as well.

ALSO- coconut oil and grapeseed oil work and they have a more pleasant smell.

Only extra virgin coconut oil for me. I actually use it head to toe and would never go back to anything with chemicals in it, my skin has never looked better or been more moisturized, never dry or flaky or itchy. I use coconut oil first to take off my eyemakeup, mascara and all. This is awesome website to find out what ingredients are in cosmetics that are dangerous: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/ you don't have to sign up to read it.

The good quality coconut oil may sound expensive at first but I paid $40 for a one gallon bucket of it in July and am just now finishing it up, so I could be spending that amount of money, well more actually, on one tiny jar of something...and it's nice to know I'm not going to run out of it or have to buy it all the time.

I have read about people using this and am intrigued. Don't you find that it feels heavy on your skin? I nearly bought EV Coconut Oil a few weeks ago but decided to hold off until I can get more information. From what I have read so far, it needs to the unrefined EV Coconut Oil...

Any additional information is appreciated!

I love Origins skin care! It has visibly improved my skin. Also, I have no dry patches this winter - first time in many years!

http://hubpages.com/hub/Virgin-Coconut-Oil-the-safest-skin-moisturizer This link might answer some of your questions. I wish I knew about coconut oil back when my boys were babies and had cradle cap! It does not feel heavy at all on my skin. I just can't say enough about coconut oil, I just love it. I eat it, bake with it, fry/saute with it, and use it from head to toe; moisturizer and as a scalp/hair treatment. I use it on my dogs (they tend to get matting behind their ears) and they LOVE to eat it too, they beg for it. Actually everytime the Papillon hears me unscrew the jar lid he comes running.

Now I want to try the coconut oil, especially on my hair/scalp, so the question is where do you purchase yours? Also, it is best to get the unrefined, correct? thanks!

This link should also help: http://www.coconut-connections.com/skin_care.htm When I do the oil on my scalp/hair, I put it on and rub it all over my scalp and comb it through to the ends of my hair. I normally do it at night and sleep with a towel covering my pillow and then shampoo in the morning. I also will use honey in the shower as a conditioner every once in awhile.

The unfined coconut oil is the best, it has not been processed like the refined, which has been deodorized by high heat and bleached to remove the smell. The brand Walmart carries in their baking oil is not kind you want to get, LouAnna, it's refined and has no taste or smell and I think it's hydrogenated too. I tried that when I first got into using coconut oil and soon realized to get the most health benefits to go for the more expensive, unfined versions. Whole Foods brand smells awesome but I bought on-line in July from Nutiva a one gallon bucket for I think $40 and I'm just now on my last jar of it (I keep refilling my jar in the kitchen and the one I use in the bathroom). Any organic/natural food section in the grocery store should carry at least one brand.

Thanks 2bearsmom!

Quick question - is the oil a 'solid' or liquid? I've been looking over the vitacost.com website and reading reviews, but most of the reviews are for
eating and cooking with it.

You are welcome, I hope you love it too! Oh, it's a solid oil until it hits 76 degrees, then if becomes liquid. In the summer since it's liquid from the heat I just dip in my finger and apply lightly. I might start keeping it in the fridge though or try to find a cooler spot in the bathroom/bedroom area....I'll have to read up on if it's ok to keep it in the fridge.

http://www.vitacost.com/Nutiva-Organic-Extra-Virgin-Coconut-Oil-15-oz This is the brand I bought and you can click on reviews, a lot of them state they love it for cooking and for skin/hair. And this is a great price for this quantity!

That is me exactly with Mary Kay. I have tried multiple times, and my skin feels great for about 1 day then I get red and my skin burns and then the big zits come. We must be allergic to it or something. I use Oil of Olay usually, I am always trying something new, I have used Clinic, Este Lauder, Channel. I hat spending that much money. so I guess for now I will stick with my Oil of Olay.

I agree with the Olive Oil and Coconut Oil. I actually make my own face “cream”. It’s a mix of small part vegetable glycerin, EVOO, and Virgin Coconut oil. Works like a charm and leaves my face smooth as a baby’s butt and free of chemicals. It's also cheap to make.
