Fabric markers or sharpies for Pillow Cases

For those of you who had had the pillow cases signed by the characters onboard, are sharpies or fabric markers better?

I only have experience with the fabric markers--I provided a multi-colored pack with my pillowcases and they turned out great.

I agree I put fabric markers in a baggie with pillowcases. I have washed them numerous times and they still look great!

I did Sharpies, and even after prewashing the fabric (no fabric softener), and heat setting the signatures after getting home, I found they still bleed. Next time, I will use fabric markers.

What brand and how much are these fabric markers? I plan to get t-shirts signed. Do you get these markers back after the items are signed?

I've used Sharpies Twice.

First Cruise with a Black Sharpie.........didn't bleed but it faded quickly

Second Cruise with a RED Sharpie.........Every signature bleed badly after washing.

I strongly suggest getting Fabric Markers!!!

Crayola makes fabric markers - available at Walmart, etc. I've used multi coloured Sharpies for photo mats and fabric markers for t-shirts. Both have turned out GREAT!!

FYI- Our local Walmarts and Targets did not have Crayola fabric markers. I had looked online at other stores (Michael's and Hobby Lobby) and they didn't show that they had them, so I ordered them online. Well, wouldn't you know it........I was in Michael's the other day and there they were for under $4!!

Heat setting? How do you do this? Is this something necessary? What happens if you don't do this?

I was told to do either of the following (I've done both with not getting the results I wanted- non-bleeding signatures):
* turn you dryer setting to high and put item in the dryer for 20-30 min.
* iron over the fabric using a high setting- do not use any water/steam
while ironing

Next time, fabric markers.

And I never heated the signatures(iron/dryer) before use either. I forgot all about it. The kids were so excited, they slept with them our first night home. They bled even more with each washing and you cant even read the signatures anymore! Next time I will use Fabric markers and Hope for Better Luck!!

HEAT Seal the signatures by running them in the dryer or using an iron over them?... Still a little unclear on this one... how long do I dry it in the dryer... or if I use the iron method, do I use something in between the iron and the pillow case? Like a buffer so to speak, paper or another piece of fabric? Thanks in Advance for any and all answers.

I just bought the Crayola Fabric Markers today at Michael's and the instructions are on the back of them! I've already packed them but I believe it said to do both!!! Good luck!!! I hope it works for all of us!!!

I saw them at Michael's also. I have a 50% coupon but I did not buy them. The tips look very fine rather than fat. So is this the same Crayola Fabric Markers or is their a fatter tip to use?

At the t-shirt aisle were a different brand of fabric markers. They had fat tips and are priced at $9. So are the crayola just as good?
