Well, today seems to be the day for weird, physical symptoms on the DIS. After reading about Bell's Palsy and CamColt's dry mouth, I decided to throw my own malady out there. My eyes feel weird and have felt weird for a couple of weeks.

Last week, I posted that I had gotten a sty on my eye for the very first time in my 40 years. I took everyone's advice and used hot compresses. I also went to the optometrist who comfirmed the sty and gave me some Bacitracin cream (antibiotic). The sty pain is gone and the cyst that it left is shrinking. However, inside my eye, in the outer corner it is still fairly red and bloodshot. The doctor said I did not have pinkeye. I also believe that I am allergic to the Bacitracin (I am allergic to Neosporin too so that doesn't surprise me). I have quit the Bacitracin. In the meantime, BOTH of my eyes just feel so weird. Sometimes my upper lids feel itchy and swollen (just a sensation). They feel heavy and puffy, although they don't look it. Today the eyes are very glassy and I look like I have been crying. They are kind of red but not overly. They don't really itch, they just feel yucky. Nothing I do makes it go away. I've used artificial tears, antihistamine drops, anything I can think of.

I should add that I have a history of very mild hay fever, yet it has never really affected my eyes. I'm not really stuffed up or having sinus symptoms right now. It's just the darned eyes. The cherry blossoms, Bradford Pears, etc. are in full explosion right now so I'm going to assume it is the pollen. But wouldn't I be ITCHING? Anyway, just getting kind of worried.

Allergic reactions can change over our lifetimes, getting better and getting worse. I would think your allergy history may have something to do with it. Hope you feel better soon.

Looking at your location, my first thought was spring allergies. I know the trees are all blooming here now. Sometimes you don't itch, your eyes just swell. I'd say if it keeps up for longer, or gets worse, you should probably see your dr.

Oh but doctors are such a waste of time anymore!!:( They just kind of look at you and shrug.

The people on the DIS have so many better ideas.:D

Sounds like you need a new doctor -- none of the doctors I've been to shrug their shoulders and blow off a patient.

You're right Bob! If I don't go in there bleeding to death, I don't get much help and that's IF I can get an appointment. Guess I'm a little discouraged with the medical community. But honestly, I'm pretty sure that this isn't an infection so what could they really do for me?

I don't know what they could or couldn't do for you (not being a doctor myself, even on TV ;) ), but it's unfortunate that a patient with a valid concern can't get a few minutes with their doctor (or at minimum, a referal to another doc) to check things out. :(

I hope you get your eye problems worked out.

I'm not doctor but it sounds like an allergy, maybe pollen or reaction to the antibiotic. I am wearing a trial pair of contacts and Monday I had to take them out because my left eye was similarly irritated. I stopped with the eye doctor Wednesday when she was in, she gave me a sample of Patanol - a prescription eye drop for allergies, even though by Wednesday it had gotten better just by leaving the lenses out and using non-prescription drops for dry eyes. Maybe you should ask if Patanol would help your condition.

I do think it is an allergy to *something* it is just so strange because I am not stuffed up at all.

I just happen to have some Patenol that belongs to my son. It definitely gets some of the red out but it seems to be "burning" the skin around my eyes if that makes any sense. I must be really sensitive right now. I wondering if the antibiotic didn't cause some major allergy flare (even though I only put it in one eye) and my eyes are just sensitive.

They got a little better in the afternoon at the office today but when I got home they started hurting/burning again. Then I used the Patenol and they got whiter but the skin was burning.

I guess I should just leave them alone now.
