Actually, it's about eyeshadow specifically... I've always been intimidated by eyeshadow. :bitelip: I usually avoid it unless I'm going out to a really fancy function. I have one coming up and want to do the smoky eyes, but I don't know how. :confused3 I usually end up applying my eyeshadow too light. BTW, my eyes are brown.

I know that there have to be some eyeshadow experts around here. :teeth: Help me!  Please? :bitelip: :bitelip:

If you are not sure how to do it, then you might want someone to show you first. Like at a cosmetics counter. I can't do smokey, it's too much for me, or I'd try to help. :)

Rita, if the function's not right away, and you have time, go to a department store makeup counter, like Clinique or Lancome, and they will do your makeup for free. They'll try to sell you the products they use on you, but you're not obligated to buy anything. If you like the look, you can just buy the eye makeup they use, and then go home and practice the techniques. Lancome even provides you with a paper drawing of a face, and identifies which colors to use and where to apply them.

Ahhhh....I will be following your Thread as DISer's post, Rita, because I feel the same way. :guilty: And I, as well have brown eyes. I was at a function recently and a friend had done the smoky eyes make-up and it look great!

Would love to hear (read) all the advice. :goodvibes

Laurie, I see that you located the place where the picture was taken! :thumbsup2 :teeth: :teeth:

That's a good idea! I thought about that, but I don't want them to harass me to buy products that I don't use. I use BE. :thumbsup2

Hey, Bet! It's early next month, so I've got time.

I love a smokey eye! I am a make up hoarder!

You can also contact a local Mary Kay rep! They'll come right to the house and show YOU how to do it YOURSELF!

You can go to www.marykay.com and put your zipcode in to find someone near you.

Good luck!

Great! We can learn together. :woohoo: :teeth:

I wish I had some kind of diagram! But I'll try to do an explanation!

One of the easiest way to do eyeshadow that ends up really nice is by using three colors- for instance, you could use a very light, medium, and dark brown. Some brands sell 3-color sets made just for this! The lightest color goes just below your eyebrow. The medium color goes on the lid of your eye, and the darkest goes in the crease.

I found a picture that shows it a little more clearly-

Each one shows a different way of using the darkest color.

Hope that helps!

I sure did. The more I couldn't find it, the more determined I was to find it. I finally did. :cheer2: :cheer2:

I use the #1 look. I use a light shadow for the entire lid, then a darker shadow on and in the crease to the edge. I use a liquid liner on the top lashes and I use the dark shadow over the liner and below my lashes.

And there you have it! Follow those instructions to a T, it will look great on you Rita! I wish I was there, I'd do your makeup. I love doing makeup, and its really fun to do it on someone with different coloring than me...brown eyes are really fun to play up smoky! Good luck, take some pics!

You know, I have been searching the web for tips and suggestions. It doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to do, but the explanations go on and on... :bitelip:

I have found some smoky eye kits. Here are two that I liked:

http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P152706&categoryId=B70

http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P157201&categoryId=B70 (the one in burgundy)

I'm wearing a black dress with gold accessories (necklace, earrings and small purse). Which eyeshadow kit do you think will look better? :bitelip:

What colors do you already have?

Those plummy purple ones should be pretty.

I like that one a lot. I don't know what I have. I use eyeshadow so infrequently that I usually just buy new when I need it. :bitelip:

The fun thing is that once you get the basic application down, you'll figure out how to do it with all sorts of colors :) My favorite, when I'm feeling "girly" is white under the eyebrow, pink on the lid, and a sort of wine color in the crease.

Don't forget an awesome mascara! Brown makes your lashes look thicker, and black makes them look longer.

I never heard that about brown and black mascara. I wear black and L'Oreal has got some awesome mascaras.
