Anyone had it done?

I have really bad eyesight (runs in the family) and there is a history of Galucoma in my family.

I recently went for a consultation at a private clinic within Moorfields to see if i was suitable for laser surgery. I was always under the impression i wasnt as my vision was so poor, my astigmatism was so bad etc etc. But i havve gotten so fed up with the amount of money opticians charge for a decent looking pair of glasses/sunglasses. My last visit cost £500!

Long story short they said i was suitable and booked me in .....for next Friday!!:scared1: Im terribly squeamish with my eyes so im honestly terrified!

Maybe its a good thing that i have such short notice as it gives me less time to worry :lmao: Im sure it will all be fine but apart from immediate family and my boss i havent told anyone!

Fingers crossed by this time next week my glasses will be in the bin :goodvibes

a friend of mine had it done at Moorfields a couple of years ago and said it's the best thing she ever did. She had to wear the 'rock star' look for a while (sunglasses, not sure if it was for bruising or just to sheild her eyes from the light) which made us laugh as it was winter and generally very grey and overcast most of the time!

Good luck with your surgery, I think you're right that it's best to have it done quickly so that you don't have too much time to dwell on it.

I agree that the sooner you have it done the better, it's less time to worry about it. My niece had her eyes done a few years ago (her prescription was so strong that each eye had to be done in two stages) and also says it's the best thing she ever did.

Good luck :wizard:

Untill two years ago my perscription kept getting worse and worse, I am due an eye test in two months and if its still "stable" I am thinking on laser surgery as I am paying in the £400-500 pound mark for glasses, in the long run surgery is cheaper

My SIL had it done and hasn't looked back since...pun intended.:rolleyes1 Seriously though, she said it was great. She is a big wuss and she said it wasn't as bad as she had feared.

I had my eyes done in 1997 and I can honestly say it was the best thing I have ever done, no regrets at all :thumbsup2

My prescription was -6.5 in both eyes, so without glasses I was blind as a bat lol

I found it made the biggest difference to small things in your life, like being able to read the alarm clock in the morning without having to fumble for your glasses. It was also nice to go swimming and be able to identify your kids in the pool lol

When I go down to london I work just round the corner from Moorfields, on Old Street. If you need to stay over anytime there is a reasonable Travelodge just down City Road a little way - easy working distance :)
Nice Indian opposite the hotel too :)

Im -10.5 in my worse eye :scared1: and the other eye is only marginally better.

Its the small things like that, that i am looking forward to. Ive worn glasses since i was 8 years old so i cant remember not wearing them.

I should have known you'd be able to recommend a good indian!! My parents are taking me on the day as DH couldnt get the day off work - might get them to buy me dinner :goodvibes

It'll be fine, and you will love the results! I had mine done 3 years ago and it's fantastic, the best thing is being able to see on the coasters in Florida, and being able to see the kids properly in the pool.

Are you having lasik or lasek?

Good luck for Friday! :)

I had Lasik two years ago and am SO happy I did. :) It was very quick. I went back to the hotel, napped and was able to see a movie 2 hours later.... without glasses!

I had it done 2 years ago and it is worth every penny. I was amazed by how quick it was and how I now have prefect vision. Before I had it done I could hardly see I thing ( I was -13). If I dropped my glasses I had to get my daughter to find them for me.

I'm having LASIK :)

I'm really looking forward to being able to treat myself to a decent pair of sunglasses for our trip in Sept.

My husband had his eyes done several years ago & it was the best thing he has ever done! (Other than marry me ;) ) Seriously, it really made such a difference to him & he was so pleased he had it done. I can't remember which one he had, Lasik or Lasek, but typically it was the most expensive one that he needed.

He said it doesn't hurt but you just feel a bit of pressure on your eye - the best way he can describe it is kind of like when your at the dentist you can feel them pushing in your mouth but no pain.

Make sure you don't have any plans for afterwards, it is best to just have a lie down and rest/sleep for a few hours then you will be fine. :)

Good luck & try not to worry. :wizard:

Small world - we have just stayed there (stayed there several times to be honest) and eaten at the Curry Leaf East - it was brilliant - I had a chicken dish beginning with a x - it was ace.

I always keep thinking I would check this out - eye surgery I mean - my eyes are 10 in both eyes and I had always assumed they were too bad - plus I've had no real problems with contact lenses and the fact that I'm too much of a coward - but how good would it be - waking up and being able to see:cool1:

My were -13 and was told it depends on how much cornea tissue you have if they will do it or not. With a higher perscription there is a chance you may need a 2nd treatment so you need enough tissue for that. With a high perscription the cost is also going to be in the high range as you will need the best treatment they offer.

Well it all went well! I had my first follow up appointment this morning and I now have 20/20 vision :D it really was worth every penny!
