Eye infection from Splash Mountain

Sucky but perhaps better than pink eye? I had one once that I remember...it was constantly sore.

Sounds like what you have may be pink eye, which might very well be spread in another manner - on our first family trip to DL in 2006, our daughter had a nap 2 afternoons prior to us leaving on our flight to DL, and her one eye was totally RED upon awakening. (No prior signs or symptoms at all.) It was pink eye, the Dr. told us, and was easily treated with drops. I hope yours goes away quickly, and that no one else gets it. I'm not dismissing the idea it could have come from the water, but I think it is more likely to be pink eye than an infection from the water. Because the water does hit people's faces, Disney likely has to chlorinate pretty heavily, and test the water (I would assume.)

Edited to add: Even if you're good about not touching your face, etc... it takes one second for you to rub your eyelashes if it feels like something's in them, etc., to place bacteria or a virus in that area, and a person really doesn't even know they've done it. They've done chalk tests before where a person's hands are covered with pink chalk (on the palms) and before long, people have touched a lot of areas on their faces.

I'm curious to know how clean the water is on Splash and on PotC. It didn't smell offensive to me on either ride, it just smells nice and humid, like when you walk onto the POTC ride que, just as you get indoors. LOVE that smell! Miss it so much!!

I was going to say this too...chances are it's pink eye that you picked up somewhere else:hug:

Hmm...what comes to my mind is..."how many things did you touch after you touched your eye?" I wonder how many people got pink eye at Disneyland in that same time frame...haha.

Styes are agravating little buggers. They are basically pimples in the eye. You can get them from make-up, or touching your nose then eye as it's caused by bacteria transferred into the eye area. Pink eye which is HIGHLY contagious is when the eye turns bright red, it can swell shut, and itches like crazy sometimes, it will also run/tear up, or cake up. If you touch anything that has come in contact with it then touch your eye it's got you unless you really wash after everything.

Pink Eye yuck. At least it wasn't obvious until you got home so it didn't ruin your trip!! Having Pink Eye at DL would suck.

You can easily get a viral form of conjunctivitis (pink eye) as well. Trust me, we had both when my kids were in daycare. It just happens, and unfortunately for the viral form, no antibacterial drops will help, it just has to run its course and in the meantime is highly contagious.

I hope the eye drops helped and you are on the way to recovery, OP! :thumbsup2

Oh, and I am packing two little bottles of antibacterial hand gel... ;)

I have had both forms of it too, in younger days, and the viral is more frustrating because it has to run its course, as you said. At least the bacterial can be treated in some way.
