Eye Glasses and the Thrill Rides - How did you do?

+1 for a glasses strap mostly for peace of mind. If I didn't have one I would be worried about losing them and wouldn't enjoy the ride.

Once I forgot them and at Bush Garden Williamsburg I took my glasses off and put them in my pocket. Came off the ride, put my glasses on and thought I had a concussion because the walkway on one side of my body didn't line up right. :crazy2: I had lost a lens which made my wife mad because now she had to do almost all the driving to get home.

I've worn my glasses on all the coasters I've been on...Rock'n'Roller Coaster, Manta at SeaWorld Orlando, Intimidator 305 at Kings Dominion, Griffon at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, etc.
I don't have a strap and they've never even felt like they were coming off.
At waterparks, I take them off for most of the slides though.:)

I never had a problem at Disney, but at Six Flags, my glasses flew off on one of the coasters. Luckily as I was going to the ride entrance to talk with the employee, a couple was just ahead of me, explaining how these glasses just flew into their lap! Since then I wear a strap on anything that goes upside down:cool2:

I bought one of the string holders with Mickeys on the ends. Just gives me peace of mind.

What about your prescription sun glasses? Do you take them off and put on your regular glasses for inside? Been doing that, wondering if there was a better option.

I do that now. I am used to switching them out. But unless you want to pay a lot for those transition glasses, I don't know if there is a better option.

So....I am visually deficient. :wave2: My eye glasses are NOT just a fashion statement, but I need them to fully see and enjoy life and the rides.

When I was younger, and my eyes were better, I took off my glasses and can still enjoy the ride a bit. Not sure if I can do that now. I am concerned about rides such as Space Mountain, Mission: Space and the Rock and Roll Coaster.

To those like me that wear glasses, do you have experience on those rides? If so, how did you do? Did you have to take off your glasses for them?

My kids have special vision and have very expensive glasses. I bring a hard case for each child and keep them in my pack. I have contacts now but yeah I could never see half of what was on the ride either but I still had fun none the less :) Disney World has so many rides that don't jostle at all luckily!

Before my very first WDW trip, I bought a glasses strap. I use one on every trip. I am lost without my glasses and did not want to risk losing them. Maybe I don't need the strap, but better safe than sorry! Added bonus, using the strap to hold my glasses tight to my face makes it easier to keep the 3D glasses in place over them.

DW has worn them on pretty much every coaster across the United States without issue (no strap). Disney is a piece of cake.

I really wanted to see well on the coaster rides so I bought an eye glasses band at the gift shop before Rock N Roller coaster - so glad I did. The band worked great, was a happy souvenir and I use it whenever I ride thrill rides. It is so nice to actually see and to be extra sure my glasses will stay on the entire ride! :)

Cedar Point :thumbsup2

I live by Kings Island, go to CP A LOT, have you ridden Banshee yet? I'm still voting for Millie in the new Avatar land, Race thru Pandora!!

when my husband rode Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar oint, he had his "croakies" on. he said on the way dwon the croakies were working there way off his head!

I got brand new glasses last September which are frameless (and v.expensive, I nearly cried when I found out how much they were!) and the first question I asked the optician was "will these stay on during a ride in a theme park?" The reply was "why on earth would you want to wear them?" So when I launched into a description of the theming that I was missing out on, he just raised an eyebrow... I'm taking my old glasses to wear in the parks and on the rides!! For what it's worth, the only ride I take mine off for is Rock n Rollercoaster, never had any problems wearing them on anything else. :cool1:

I wear glasses fulltime, and when outside Solarshields sunglasses over them.

I have never had a problem at WDW with glasses staying on, though for rollercoasters I take the sunglasses off to be safe as they are not as tight to the head.

That said, I have had great success with Chums brand ( https://www.chums.com/ ) eyeglass retainers. They make a wide variety of styles and for all kinds of different purposes. They are available in many stores and also online and are reasonably priced. We use them at water parks and a few other places and have been very very happy.

Using two chums retainers (one on eyeglasses and one on sunglasses) I and they survived the Atlantis "lazy river that is NOTHING lazy ! The retainers kept them both securely on my head. I did watch another lady lose her glasses into the water current, but a lifeguard managed to rescue them from the bottom for her. **Retainers are your friend at water parks**. (I use the Chums neoprene retainers (not the floating ones; https://www.chums.com/category/neoprene ), choosing the proper size for the glasses temple piece; they could easily be used on a rollercoaster, too).

Universal tend to be over cautious, I've worn glasses on all the rides with no problem except for the Dragon ride, the only reason I take them off is because I find that if my head whips to the side of my glasses hitting the side of my head can be very painful. Never had a problem at Disney, if you are concerned then get the straps that skiers use, they are cheap enough.
