Oh, I forgot to mention. We had final building inspection on the addition yesterday and got a beautiful GREEN tag! That means I can finally start moving into my new craft room.   I think I'm going to wait until the painter comes back on Monday to do some touchups, but maybe I'll start to put together my new furniture this weekend too. I have stacks of Skandia shelving that's been waiting for this day since I picked it up two months ago. (I purchased it before we left for WDW back in October because it was on sale and didn't want to miss out on the 25% off.)

A quick  everyone.

We are off to buy roller skates for the girls. They have decided they want to learn to skate.

RRBB I'm not sure what method of teaching reading schools in your area use. We teach young children phonics, so rather than them learning the letter names they learn the letter sounds and blends. They start with individual sounds then move on to blends. We use a program called Read and Write Inc. The program runs from pre school all the way up to 11 year olds. For initial learning of sounds the children have cards with the letters on which they learn to say and write at the same time. http://www.ruthmiskinliteracy.com/parents.aspx here's a link to what we use, you can down load the powerpoint and listen to how the sounds are taught. I think things will probably be done slightly differently in the USA due to our spelling and pronunciation differences, but I think the basic concepts would be the same.
As for numbers, if he is able to recognise numbers do some counting with him to 10 then 20 followed by some simple addition sums. In our pre school they do lots of counting with cubes to help them.

Danauk- I hope that your work life gets better soon. I enjoyed your pictures on the UK board.

Thanks for the continued well wishes for Katie - they worked!!!! :goodvibes She went the whole day yesterday w/o a fever:banana: Now I'm hoping that it continues today (fingers crossed).

RRBB - That's awesome news about your green tag:woohoo: You'll need to take some pictures of your new addition when it's all finished, I would love to see them.
**I have this great game for Katie, that maybe Ian would enjoy. It's a Dora board game where there's a bunch of cards with a picture on it (one for each letter of the alphabet). The child needs to match the letter to the picture, which really makes Katie think, and she likes it :goodvibes I think it's called Dora's ABC Adventure. I'll have to look next time I go downstairs.

BlueBayou - Did you buy rollerskates or rollerblades? I hope they enjoy them!!:)

Danauk - How's your Grandma doing?

NC Belle - Thanks for all those get well smilies:goodvibes

Well, I gotta run - Have a good day everyone!!!

My husband got a pair of inline skates. Lily's can be inline skates... but they start off like a tricycle, one wheel in front and two in back. She is doing real well in them. Elise's feet are size 7 1/2, and the smallest we could find at three stores was 10... so I am going to try Toys R Us and if that comes up empty... I will order something online.

I have old school roller skates from 1979. Brown fake suede with orange wheels. They need new stoppers on the front. But I think yesterday was the first time they have ever been used outside. I used them at rinks and in our basement back in Delaware.... never outside.

OK guys, I need a little more PD;

My dad had some blood in his stool for 3 straight days and went off to the ER a couple of hours ago. His Dr indicated that he wasn't too concerned (something about pushing too hard) and that it will be OK. They are doing a few tests and will probably release him tonight... I'l let you know...

Positive thoughts right at you and yours ohanafamily

Hey all, thanks for the prayers and PD.

Well, since you all are curios... Dad is going in for a colonoscopy in about 15 minutes (which means 3 hours) and they are going to decide whether or not he needs to have part of his colon cut out. Not fun...

I'll keep you posted...

Today is a sad day for my mom and I. We are closing on my Grandma's house :worried: Even though it's very good that we were able to sell the house, it's still very sad that we are never going to go inside of it again :( I was indifferent if I should walk through it one more time, and I decided not to. I would much rather remember it how it was, instead of an empty shell (even though I've been in it several times, while it was empty, but it was empty and still hers. Now it's empty and almost someones elses). I still can't believe it's almost been a year since she passed away. I can still hear her voice like I talked to her yesterday. What a sad day!!!!

Oh, SLO, You will probably always feel her presence, she is a part of you. (I will refrain from singing "He lives in You" from the Lion King) Your love for her will always feel like her voice when you need her advice. That is part of the way of things and the circle of life.
:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

OK, my dad is going in for colon surgery at 10:30 this morning. Tonight will be a long night...

Hey best of luck to you and your dad :flower3:

Slo I so agree with ohanafamily!
My grandfarther was a real Maine character - very funny and lots of wild stories about him.
He died very suddenly - consequently we only have memories of him as a person "full of life". Or full of "something".
I'm sure you've got some great memories of your Grandma to hold on to.
In a way that will keep her living - at least in your heart and mind.
