On Extreme Home Makeover they always make it seem like the family leaves and they begin home demolition/renovation that takes 7 days. They never mention anything about boxing the family's stuff up and putting in storage. That part can't be part of the 7 days. How long do you think it really takes? I also can't believe that their clothes, dishes and other personal items are already in drawers when they get home. I tend to think movers must box everything up and leave it for them to put away when they return. Also, what do you think they do with the people's old furniture?

im not sure..but when they were just showing the family the kitchen, the drawers all looked full...

This one tonight made me cry. I think that they have soo much help, that it is part of the 7 days.

I know someone who knows the family expecting triplets that had the makeover. They actually said that everything is put into storage and you have a certain amount of time (maybe a month) to get it out, or you start getting charged. She also said that none of the boxes are labelled and it is your responsibility to get rid of everything

Ty called in to a radio station I listen to in NYC, and everything does 7 take days. The designers don't get to see the house until they get there and inform the family. Apparently they have inspectors living at the site so that when something needs to get approved, it can be done at that second. It was a really interesting interview, and it really made me even more impressed with what they do.

Tonites episode make me cry too! They always do.

The producers were in my office 3 weeks ago and filmed two weeks ago with reveal this past Monday. They have to give blue prints of the house when they find out they are being considered, this family told they were 1 of 5, so they can have all permits accepted etc. The families are also told what day to be home and camera ready in case they are the one to be picked, I assume they call the other 4 families beforehand and let them know that they weren't chosen. Everything takes 7 days, In this case demolition styarted Monday, building started Wednsday and the family came back Monday for reveal at 5:30.

I've gotta tell ya the producers are wonderful people, exactly like you'd expect them to be :)

Tonight's episode was GREAT! I just kept on crying and crying!

Meagan, how are you involved in the show?

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that cries at this show. All that these families go through, they deserve for this to happen for them. I love this show!

I wasn't involved however I heard an awful lot :)

What happened was when they chose the family they needed to find a general contractor. I work in a real estate office. One of our agents husbands is the contractor on this praticular show. Our agent then offered space in the office I'm in so they could have a spot to meet and plan :)

Fabulous people all of them. I wish I could have met some of the cast but I didn't go down to the site.

We usually don't watch but I talked DH into watching it tonight. He went to put DD into bed and came out to me sniffling on the chair. Pregnancy hormones and tear-jerker shows don't go well together! We still have 15 minutes to go, I'm sure it'll get worse......

I agree!! I just WISH they'd come and do MY HOUSE! :p

I can see them easily packing everything up in the first couple of hours- the last time we moved, a team of four people from the moving company came, and they packed everything in the house in about 4 hours, if I remember right. I'm sure they have more than four people packing up the Homeowners' houses.

I guess with all of those people just shoving things into boxes without labels that it is possible.

Our stuff was labeled. Not detailed, but with the name of the room it came from. Wasn't a big problem- I'd take not too detailed boxes over packing it myself for a week any day!!!:teeth:
