Extra towels - is this new?

Key words here are "At the start of your stay and during each housekeeping service" you could be charged if you request these items if it is not on a housekeeping day.

Amenity Requests

You’ll be provided with the following amenities at no extra charge at the start of your stay and during each Housekeeping service. These amenities can also be replenished upon request at no additional charge:
  • Coffee Package: Includes 1 package of coffee, 8 sugars, 8 creamers, 8 artificial sweeteners
  • Towel Package: Includes 4 bath towels, 2 hand towels, 4 washcloths, 1 bath mat
  • Laundry Detergent (only in 1-, 2- and 3-Bedroom Villas): Includes 1 box for 1 load of laundryat the start of your stay and during each Housekeeping service

I thought they key words were "upon request at no additional charge."

But realistically, maybe the key word is "can." As in, they can be replenished at no additional charge... but they won't necessarily be replenished at no additional charge.

MS reply:

The information you are reading is correct. If you need additional towels for your room, you can contact Housekeeping and they will deliver them to your room at no additional cost. They will not replace the towels on a daily basis unless you purchase Trash and Towel Service for each day. You can add on additional Trash and Towel Services during your stay either by calling Member Services or by calling Housekeeping on your room phone. There is a charge for additional Trash and Towel Services. During the Trash and Towel Service, they empty all trash cans and replace your towels with clean ones.

Help me understand: if I want extra tower I can get them for free. If I want to have the towel replaced then I have to pay...
Is it me or it just doesn't make much sense?

Can't help you as that's why I thought it had to be some sort of typo. It makes absolutely zero sense especially since the trash is being removed with the daily inspections.

With this news, I am curious if housekeeping will take obviously discarded towels during the daily trash/inspection visit.

meh....if i need towels....i either ask from one of the maids in the hall way for a few extra........grab a few off a cart on my own......or bring some up from the pool.

not that big a deal.

If you want some more towels, call housekeeping and someone will bring them to your door, or put them on the counter. Simple. If you want the old towels taken off the racks, picked up off the floor and new ones nicely placed on the racks, then you pay for it, and they'll take your trash too.

Well it’s not just towels. If someone is a coffee drinker they could request more coffee for free.

Right. Which is also something that is part of Trash & Towel service. I really don't understand why that would ever be charged to a room now?

Maybe Terri Schultz will explain it all at the annual meeting in Dec. Or it will all be done with before that time.

removal means they are washing the towels out of cycle if you will. but if you wash them yourself...we do.....it is free

If coffee really is free, that will be awesome. Granted it isn't the best coffee by a longshot, but it sure beats what some of my guests have brought to share.

Maybe it did just get to be too much of a hassle for the housekeeping staff to keep track of and bill out to the rooms on DVC vs. Cash Guests.

I am sure the vast majority of DVC owners see this as a welcome amenity whether they would ever use it or not. Much better than something being taken away. The way I see it, if I need to worry about how many towels someone else uses than perhaps I should rethink owning a timeshare. JMO

I just don’t want DVC to use this as a justification if/when dues shoot up by a huge amount in a few months. “Well, we gave you extra towels and coffee, so...”

we’ve called for a towel pack many times and never got charged for one. we even had them tell us oh, we don’t charge for that anymore! at more than one resort last year.
