I want a new camera. Yes I have two and there is nothing wrong with them but, I want a Pentax DSLR. I need some ideas on how to pay for it without taking it out of our regular budget. I can't stand Ebay. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Ask for it for Christmas and Birthday present at one time. Perhaps your husband/parents/siblings could all go in on it together so the cost would be shared. Good luck!

If you have anything available to sell, you could sell on Amazon. Much easier than ebay, though I think the comissions are higher.

Donate plasma, stop eating out, join a coupon train, do not spend an extra penny and put it all towards a new camera. FYI: I  my Pentex DSLR, check QVC they have great prices! Best of luck.

Sell the ones you have and put that $$ towards a new one.

Yard sale? It's summer vacation - do you know some parents that are stuck for a sitter for a few days? Perhaps you can make some extra cash that way.

I think I am going to give this a try. I have two Cricut machines that I don't use and need to get rid of. Yard sales do not do so well in our area. The only kids that need baby sitters this summer besides my own are neices and nephews (I don't get paid to watch those). We just got back from a trip to Disney so our change bucket is empty. I will have to start over with it. My grandmother has buildings of stuff stashed. I am thinking of going on a scavenger hut through those to see what can be sold (with her permission of course). I really want this camera by Christmas. I have three boys so by the time that their clothes make it through all three of them they are not worth having anymore :goodvibes. Thanks everyone for the ideas. Keep them coming.

Do you work, or are you SAHM?

My friend who teaches and is off during the summer with no paycheck takes in 2 children whose parents work all summer. She only takes them M-Th, so she always has long weekends with her own kids, and she only takes in 2 because with her own two kids, she only has room for 2 in her van. She charges 25.00/day - so it's an extra 200.00/wk. (although she says she probably spends an extra 50/wk on food, admissions, etc.)

Maybe you could do this?

If you are interested in baby sitting, you can check with different disability advocacy groups in your area (like The Arc) and see if they now of any parents that have children on a medicaid waver that are looking for child care. Parents are always looking and it's nice because you'd be paid by your state. DD is on a Medicaid waver and we had a hard time finding someone. I'm not sure what they would pay in AL, but in VA it is $11.50 an hour.

I recently bought a really nice camera off of Amazon. I do the Amazon Turk program (google "Amazon Turk") which does random data entry type of jobs that people submit and pay for so I had $20 earned that I applied towards the camera. I imagine you could do it enough to pay for the camera (I just spent a few random hours doing it here and there).

Interesting. I am off to look that one up.

I don't do any of the ones that require a lot of research, going to other websites, or you have to enter a bunch of info. I did one once where a college kid recorded his professor's lecture and then was offering $10 for someone to type it out (accurately of course). It ended up taking me forever! A lot longer than I thought it would. If you accept one but don't want to do it you can cancel it but it reflects in your quality percentage, FYI.

My favorite ones are the ones that they scan in a sheet of paper where people have bubbled in answers and you type the corresponding number to the bubble. It sounds much more complicated than it is. They paid $.05 for each one and it took less than 30 seconds to do each one. Which isn't a lot of money but painless work you can do while watching TV.

if it's something you can buy on Amazon --- i've had a lot of luck with Swagbucks. I joined right after Xmas, and now have $370 in gift cards (I'm saving all the gift cards for Xmas shopping and then I'm putting that amount of cash into our Disney fund. :) ). I don't spend more than a couple minutes a day doing it but it adds up. You can PM me if you want more info

it's a website you earn bucks for searching (instead of Google), shopping thru their site, doing special offers (i.e., free trials, signing up for websites, surveys, etc.). That type of thing. Then you redeem your bucks for prizes or, in my case, gift cards.

Since referrals are not allowed, there's no reason for pm's. Anyone can sign up at swagbucks.com

yes, but if they wanted additional information, they could PM me. I have a list of instructions, tips, pointers, etc. which tells how you can make as much $$ as possible, that I could send out to them.

Get a mason jar and every time you want to buy something else, put that amount in the jar. It is amazing how fast you can save when motivated!

I got a DSLR 18 months ago and I LOVE it!

I don't care for ebay either and just this month FORCED myself to list a few items so that I can buy what I really want instead.

BTW: I am looking for a good 2nd hand camera for my son, maybe you have one I would want! ;-)
